Pain in last injection site-anyone else?

Post by Lucyluna »

Hi everyone,

My name is Amy and I got my BFP one week ago!! I was taking PIO in the bottom and took my last shot the day of my BFP one week ago. It was a little too low, and hurt more than normal. Now, one week later it is hurting like crazy. It started hurting pretty badly about 3-4 days ago. My nurses say that there is nothing you can do about it, and it will go away eventually. I also have some numbness in the middle of the low back, which my nurse said could go away quickly or could last a long time.

Has anyone ever had this before? Any soreness a week after shots, or anyone take shots too low in the region we are supposed to be sticking ourselves?

Thanks!
Lucyluna

Lucyluna- I too was in great pain but from Progesterone shots I was alergic to the PEANUT oil kind. First it would form a lump (under skin) the next day and then itch like crazy. Then I would start the process all over again for the next shot. I'm not alergic to peanuts mind you but the consistancy in the oil was something differrent. The next IVF cycle when we tried again they gave me OLIVE oil based progesterone instead and no itchies but sometimes a lump forms. I would feel it when I sat
I was told because we are sticking ourselves so much we are producing
callouses (hardening underneathe the skin by the body trying to heal the inflamed area of the shot). it does go away but with time I hope this helped a little.
I never had numbness though that is something different.

Hi Amy,

Congratulations on your BFP! I stopped the progestone shots about a week and a half ago at 11 weeks and my bum is still bruised and painful! The itching has stopped (just) but the bruising is still there!

Hope that helps

Take care

Thanks for all of your posts! Luv, I can't believe you were allergic to the oil! That must have been so miserable for you. I know the numbness is supposed to be normal. That area is where a bunch of nerves are and they wrap around, so I am sure my DH must have hit one. I just wondered how long it was going to last.

Good luck!

Well it depends I don't inject in the same spot I aslternate "cheeks"
and still try to avoid the last area. I'd say a week tops a little longer maybe.

Lucyluna, I saw that you went through ICSI/IVF and it worked on the first try. I too am going through ICSI/IVF. This will be my first try. I start my shots on September 19. I am 24 and my husband is 35 and he had a vasectomy during his first marriage. If you dont mind could you tell me about yourself and your situation. I also saw you were from N. Carolina. I am from Georgia. Congrats on the pregnancy

Hi Shelton, good luck as things get going for you. So which shots do you start next week? For me, I started with lupron for about 2 weeks, then took a lower dose of lupron with low dose ovedril and Gonal F. I did the three for about 10-12 days and then took my HCG trigger shot and went in for retreival. We got about 11 eggs but only 6 were mature. 3 fertilized and we transferred two. We were going to freeze the other but my clinic only freezes blastocysts. The last one didn't make it, but strangely enough one of the ones they thought didn't fertilize did and it is now frozen!

We did a day 3 transfer, and then 14 days later I got my positive pregnancy. The level was rather high at 671. I did two more tests, every other day, and the level was rising nicely so everything looks good. I go in to find out how many babies and hear the heartbeat on the 21st of this month.

Starting the day after the transfer we began progesterone shots in the backside and did them until the day after the BFP. They actually were not nearly as bad as I expected, just sore after the first few days. The worst thing was the final injection. My DH went just a little too low I guess and I felt some pain. A few days later I started getting numbness and more pain and it has been there ever since. I know there is nerve damage, I just hope it eventually goes away.

What meds are you on? I can tell you where the injections were easiest for me. This was our first try, so hang on to that hope! You sound like a great age for it. I am only 27 myself and am fairly healthy. I think that was a big part of the BFP.

Good luck! Let me know how I can help.

On Sep 19 I start Lupron, Doxycyline, and baby apirin. A few weeks after that I will start Follistim and Menopur. They are hoping for around Oct 12 to be the retrieval date. I am so nervous about the next month. I am scared to death of what is about to happen to me and my husband. This is not the way I planned on getting pregnant. It is good to know that there are people in my situation that the first attempt worked for them. I hope I am as blessed

You know, this is not the way any of us planned to get pregnant. But isn't it wonderful that we have the options that we have today? You know, everything happens that is supposed to happen. You can't get too worked up or nervous because it will work against you! Just try to relax and take joy in the fact that you are moving forward towards trying to start your family. For me, it was scary but I kept telling myself that there was nothing I could do other than follow the protocol as best as I could.

Hang in there and keep me posted! Try to use this time to bond with your husband! :)
