what happens to follicles that haven't been collected during the EC procedure? if i ovualte naturally, will this intervere with the fertilsed eggs that are put back?
Good question! In a normal cycle, the follicle becomes the corpus leuteum, as I understand it, where progesterone production is maintained until the placenta takes that over in week 8 or 9.
I'm not sure with IVF what happens to all of those follicles?
You won't ovulate naturally, though, since they remove all the eggs, so don't worry about that interfering with the embies.
You might ask Ghost - he seems to know quite a bit of the medical details on this process.
From what I understand the Dr will aspirate all follicles in an attempt to collect as many eggs as possible. If anything gets missed it will be reabsorbed into your body.
Uncollected oocytes will ovulate. Lacking fertilization, they will not grow nor interfere with the IVF process. They cannot implant or otherwise compete with any transferred embryos.
thanks everyone!
not all my follicles were collected as the doc hit a blood vessel during the procedure and had to stop you see.
back in today to have two put back. had a lot of pain in the middle of the night last night so i think that might have been ovulation occuring. oh well fingers crossed. good luck to eveyone with whatever stage you are at.xx
