Hi Jennifer

I'm diabetic. I had to have really tight control before and during treatment to increase our chances of success. I was told being diabetic shouldn't affect the ivf. We got 8 eggs, 5 of which fertilised, we had two put back and as you can see one of them has settled in nicely.

My HB1cA (or whatever it is called) was 9.2 just before treatment and they clinic wasn't going to go ahead (because of the risk once pregnant) but my diabetic consultant told them he had no problems with it. My HB1cA about 6 weeks ago was 6.4.

The main problems you have is once you are pregnant if you have poor control then you are at risk of miscarriage and also birth defects. Also the pregnancy will affect your insulin levels, I usually take 90 units a day pre-pregnancy, I'm now on 286 and it's rising every day.

Have you asked your clinic if it could have been the diabetes?

I hope this has helped.

Jo
