Regional and climatic effects on Fertility / Eggs?

Post by chunchun »

Hello All,
I am a fellow IVF follower like you and have had a cancelled cycle (turned to IUI) and a failed IVF cycle with only 1 embryo transfer.

I am concerned with the low follicular growth in each of my last two cycles even after about 9 days of stimming ( 1 in first cycle and 2-3 in the second) at my age 32.
Is there anybody with same kind of issue? I am from Asia ( where the climatic conditions are warmer) currently in the USA and was hoping some one from Asia or Middle east faced same set of conditions or even better found a solution by moving back to those regions for a better result? Does any body know of any studies in this regard?

FYI: First Cycle medication: I took lupron in my first cycle. Initially I started of with 450 IU of follistim and Menopur together per day. Then from the 4th day It was increased to 600 IU (4 follistim and 4 Menopur).

Second cycle medication: A different protocol this time, I was asked to take dilute Lupron from the second day of my AF and then started stims 300 IU of follistim (this time it was the Pen) in the morning and 300 IU of Menopur in the evening.

Thank you.

Medication changes/protocols - For more follicle growth

Post by chunchun »

I was eagerly waiting for a reply on my question. I did post this in the Asian girls forum and got some responses. I would be happy to get more responses, if any body has experienced a similar thing. Anyway, I guess I will put it in a little different way in the IVF forum.

I did see some posts talking about dosages of medications and how it impacted the follicular growth. With my last two IVFs I have been a slow responder unfortunately (it is very disappointing also). I have mentioned in my previous post about the dosages I had. I would be glad to know if any one had a different kind of dosage of medication which improved the follicle growth or a different protocol. Please let me know the dosage also if you could.

Also, I was trying to find since Follistim has not helped me much in both my cycles, whether gonal-f would do better, If I plan to go for my next cycle. If there is any other medication that you can think of would help me, please let me know.

I will still look foward for any answers on the region impacts for the follicle growth.
Thanks

Chunchun,

With my first cycle, I took fairly low dose repronex and gonal F, first starting with lupron (can't remember the doses). I got only 2 mature eggs (looked like I would have 10 on ultrasound) and they were of very poor quality. they did fertilize though. I then went to another clinic where the Dr thought that I was suppressed too much with the lupron ( I have an insufficient hypothalmus and don't ovulate on my own, so should have good chances supposedly). So, the next time, we did 4 shots of HCG 3 days apart each in the middle of the month before my stim cycle to just start my ovaries. Then, did not do lupron ahead of time because they thought it suppressed me too much, and increased my dose of stim meds. WE did 3 vials of repronex (225) in the mornig and 3 vials in the evening. I am a slow grower also, but they did grow (was on the stim drugs for 14 days and got 19 mature eggs of decent quality. They also had to give me a medication called cetritide when my eggs got to size 14 to keep me from ovulating too soon since I wasn't on the lupron. So, protocol and dosage does make a difference. He put me on repronex only because it has LH and FSH and gonal f only has FSH. He thought I needed more LH with my condition. Hope this helps any. Oh yeah, I did get a BFN with the 2nd cycle and am now on my 3rd cycle with pretty close to the same protocol except put me on estrogen supp during stims and changed my steroid to dexamethasone that I am taking with stim drugs. I have just as many eggs growing as my last cycle.

Kelly,

My hopes have increased now and have a more positive approach for my next cycle. When I met my RE recently he said that he would use the same protocol, but he might change some medication. Hope that will have a better affect this time. Good luck to you and hope things will be good this time for you.

Thanks.
