Nicki Honey so sorry I didn't see this thread earlier - only saw it tonight! Prob as I haven't been on much. You are doing the right thing by phoning round - that's the best way. I know its really far but I think Macca had a good suggestion with Manchester - that's where I phoned when making enquiries a couple of months back. At that point they weren't having problems. The only reason we didn't go there is because Darlington was closer. I know the situation has been changing weekly but def worth a try. They don't use super ovulation so they told me I could do urine testing and bloods locally and just go down for the iui itself.

The other thing I thought of was if you like I could ask what the name of the Harley Street clinic is that my donor has come from - this donor bank is also supplying to another 3 centres around the uk as well as Edinburgh. You could call them and ask which centres they supply to then try and go there. The only thing is, is that you may have to wait a bit there too - we were couple no. 7 of the only 7 couples currently being offered donor sperm at the unit. I imagine the other 3 centres probably have a waiting list :( Today at our nurse discussion the nurse said that this Harley Street clinic used to supply to hundreds of centres but now has closed this down to only 4 (who they selected) due to shortage. :( The whole thing is so so sad and makes me so angry  You know how much pain I have been through already to get this far and it makes me so mad that you are now having to do the same.

Keep persevering doll. I know a lot of the clinic will seem far away but I think you hav to be prepared for that now. Before the Edinburgh thing cropped up we were having to drive 3 and a half hours each way to Darlington cos it was our only option. Let me know how it goes and let me know if you want that clinic info.

Lots of hugs going your way  :o xxx

The only trouble with that Lisa is that DH doesnt drive so I would have to drive and hey do I want the stress, i am worried it wont work, if ive had to drive half way across the UK, i was kind thinking they would ship it to my clinic,
What I am mad about is that in march when i had consulatation and peeps in this site were saying about shortages on sperm, I said to the doctor and he said no shortages here, your'll be ok, and i told them i planned to start june/july and why if they knew i wanted to start in june/july didnt they save me some....I am cross!!!

I want to call round clinic now, but cant till i have my day off next week, as dont want ppl at wrk over hearing me, it's hard when u have to work too, i dont get home til 5:45 so cant call in the evenings. Arghhh!!! so 9am on my day off next week (tues) I will start calling, I also plan to call the HFEA too, and ask them what they plan to do about it.....Dont know if that'll help....

All my previous Donors were from London (harley st) so I guess my clinic must buy from them!!!

I'll keep ya posted xxxx

Ladies,

This is all because the stupid goverment changed the legislation on sperm & egg donation. Because the children have full rights to chase their biological parents, the men are just not donating anymore. They don't want a child knocking on the door in 20 years time.

I was told by my clinic that this change had hugely effected the UK and that Manchester was lucky because of the huge student community and clearly the students up here are not thinking beyond the donation, which to be fair, they shouldn't have to.

I really hope Nicky you find some soon. I want to see you at the very least joining me in the August buddies if not before.

Love Lisa XXX

I think the problem is that things are changing so rapidly that probably in MArch your clinic thought they would be ok but obviously now they realise that's not the case. Also in my experience, doctors and consultants tell you what they think you want to hear. The nurses usually tell you the true picture. This is what happened to us. Like you Nicki, I leave home at 8 am and don't get back til after 6 at the earliest. What about using your mobile and going out at lunchtimes to make calls ?? That's what I've had to do or using my hands free kit whilst driving. Not ideal but that's what I've done just to get the phonecalls in. Also HFEA were USELESS when I called them back in March. I asked them if they could give me a list of clinics that had their own sperm banks but they said no, they didn't have this info. They told me just to go onto their website and choose a few random clinics near me and make enquiries!!! Totally useless :( xxx
