Hello ladies...
I often read on this side.. I dont post much as I dont belong here yet.. Soon hopefully I will. I come here to read how you all are doing and first I want to say a huge congratulations to all of you. You have gone through so much and are living your dreams.. I dont know if you know this but you truly give us girls still TTC a lot of hope....
I wanted to just comment on what you ladies have been saying.. I have tried to think about when I do get my BFP will I want a boy or girl or will I care.. I think I would be lying if I said that my ultimate dream was not to have 2 (one of each) but if that did not happen I can not say honestly if I would want a boy or a girl... I agree with Terri and I can tell how honestly deeply blessed you all feel about being moms ( I hope to have that joy soon) I think we are all so carring and we want to feel comfortable sharing our thougths and feelings. That is just my little two cents.....I hope to join you all soon.. PLEASE enjoy a safe and happy and healty rest of your pregnancies....

Hi ladies, i hope everyone is keeping well.

I cant believe how much i have slowed down over the last couple of days, and there is still a bedroom to be done.

Justine - we were going to find out a 20 & 24 week scan what 'bubble' is but both times s/he was being quite reserved, on the last one they couldnt even see a face or limbs as it was curled up. So now we have a scans booked for 28, 30, 32, 34 and 36 weeks hopefully we will get a peek, but who knows, depends how stubborn s/he is!!!! For those scans they want to monitor the growth, not quite sure why but im not complaining, should definately have an albumn of scan photos by the time it appears.

Kristi - when do you get your results? Mine will be a week after the tests and i get them in clinic.

Mel - How are you doing? have you slowed down at all? Every so often my sickness returns full force, totally out the blue, it is mad. I am sick of the heartburn, so i must stop eating the chocolate and crisps!!!!

lots of love

Sue, they told me I could find out the results of the diabetes test the next day if I wanted to call. I didn't. I figured they would call me if there was a problem. I'll probably call them this coming week though.

I know what you mean about slowing down. I feel the same way.

I have a scan in 2 weeks, which I'm excited for!

Hi all,

has anyone had the Group B Steptococcous (spelling!!!) test, i dont think it is routinely available but can be bought privately for £32, normally done about 30 something weeks. Well my hospital screened for it, either from a swab i had given or from a urine sample and it has come back positive. I hadnt even heard of it and now i am worried about giving birth as it can be highly dangerous to newborns. Its good that they know in advance as it means during labour i will have antibiotics iv and the baby will have them if it shows any signs, but it is all so scarey. I thought most of the worrying was over, i was actually looking forward to the birth (mad i know) but now i am scared of it. In very few cases the baby can contract it up to a month after birth, unheard of after 3 months. JUST GOT TO REMEMBER THEY KNOW IN ADVANCE SO ALL WILL BE FINE (positivity until the end).

Has anyone else had this test mentioned to them? or do your clinics screen for it routinely?

Kristi - your scan in 2 weeks will be amazing, what date is it on? Mine is the 23rd, i cant wait, i really hope bubble gives us a nice clear smile!!!

take care

love

Hi Justine
glad you had a nice weekend.

20 week scan went well, no problems seen with our baby! We looked the other way when she scanned the bottom end as she said sometimes something pops up and its obvious! however, afterwards when we asked her if she saw the sex she said she didn't see anything and doesn't look for the sex of the baby unless we ask.
baby was kicking around a lot which was lovely to see as I have been feeling it so much. I still can't get over how it feels, its amazing isn't it?

love terri

Justine- i cant believe sophie hid on all 10 scans, she must be a determined young lady. I am going to ring hospital tomorrow and find out more of the strep b but i believe its quite common, i was just a bit stunned as i had never heard of it. Your boss will definately love you, at least he is nice guy.

Terri - i am glad your 20 week scan went well and all was fine, it is amazing and weird the feeling of a little life kicking around inside.

Hope everyone is well

love

Hi Sue, just to help calm your nerves....they routinely test for Strep B in Australia as it is quite common. You are lucky you decided to have the test as they can now manage it during the birth. I think problems only arise when there is no diagnosis.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Sue, interesting about the strep B test. I haven't heard of it. But I will ask now that you've told us about it. Hopefully it's manageable now that they know about it and therefore won't cause risk to your baby.

My scan is the day after yours...mine is the 24th.

My nursery room furniture came in this weekend, so we get to pick it up when we want. Then I can start putting it together & decorating. Yeah!

Hope everyone is well!

Hi everyone....wow! So much cahtting over the weekend that I missed!!!

Terri - glad your 20 week scan went well - I can't believe your will power!! I wish I had it. I didn't want to know at first, but DH really wanted to know and basically asked me why I didn't want to....I didn't really have a good answer, so there you go!

I am due for my diabetes test this week - I have PCOS which apparently places me at higher risk, and my grandmother and some cousins have diabetes. Although, I don't know if I'm booked in for it because since my last appointment, I have changed from the Labour ward to the Birth Centre, so not sure if these new mid wives would have booked me in for it. Oh well, will have to wait and see.

DH has nearly finished all the painting in the nursery, so we can finally start to set up the room later this week. I also found out that my dad bought me the rocking chair I wanted for my 30th birthday....yay!!!

Only 7 weeks of work left :-)

Hi,

Im glad every well is doing well.

I had my scan 20 week scan a few weeks back as I hadn't felt the baby for 3-4 days. Does anyone else get this, Its been another few days since I have felt the baby and although I have a consultants appointment this Thursday I do worry thats somethings wrong. The scan went well and our little pumpkin was moving all over the place, but I could feel a thing. It moved constantly for the next 4 days and then decided to be quiet again. I just cant make it out.

I have been told that my placenta is low lying and anterior on my tummy wall so the placenta is in between its legs, do u think this makes a difference. I also had a big operation years ago on my stomach and below my belly button I have noticed its totally numb, maybe this is another reason.

I just feel like panicking. I know I could ring the hospital now im nearly 21 weeks, but I dont want them to think im totally paranoid. They can be so unhelpful sometimes.

Hi all!

Just wanted to pop in and just reiterate the comments re: group B strep for Sue!
Before I started IVF this was one of the routine "swabs" they did and they sent me a letter saying I was positive. It is very common for people to have GBS at some time in their lives (although they don't necc. have it all the time if you see what I mean!).
As long as they are aware of this, as you say they can give antibiotics iv and suggest this is done in early labour or when waters break (whichever is earlier!). At least 4 hours is reccommended.
it is important to make sure that the labour ward know, and it's on your notes. Make sure you discuss it also with the midwife - I've heard of some midwives/labour wards that don't agree with giving antibiotics at this time so refuse so best to be sure (although I hear this is rare).
For those of you who don't know about Group B Strep, it's worth getting the test done (England girls this may mean paying for it - about £35) as it is so simple to treat but can be fatal to a newborn if not.
The thing to remember is a) it is VERY common and b) It is very rare for anything to happen to the baby and c) it's very simple to treat. Forewarned is forearmed and all that!
There is a website called www.gbss.org.uk which is very good!!!!!!

Hope this helps!!!!!

Sue e,

Rest easy the strep b test is done regularly in the US and my girlfriend came back positive - they put her right on the IV anitbiotics and her son came out perfectly fine and was completely unaffected...I believe you will be fine - whats nice is they know so early in labor they can get the antibiotics into your system!

Hey ladies - wow! A lot of action on this thread since Friday! I am at work so I haven't had a chance to read over everything. I just want to give a quick update:

I had a scan today at 21.5 weeks and the doctor said she is 90% sure it is a little girl!! I am so excited! I would be just as excited if it were a boy but knowing, for me, has made it so much more real! The baby is breech and facing my spine, so she made it quite difficult to see. All of the organs and limbs look perfect. The doctor wants to do another scan at 25.5 weeks to double check the umbilical cord b/c she could barely see it today. She said we can hopefully confirm the gender then. She said not to go buying girly stuff just yet! I have a friend who had two ultrasounds confirming girl and she had a boy - so that margin of error is very real. Either way - I am so, so thrilled!!!

I am sorry I haven't read all of your posts so I can't comment on them - I hope to get caught up in the next day or so. Best wishes to all of you and have a great day!! :D :D :D
