Time between ICSI procedures

Post by mmc »

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for responding to all of my questions, it had really helped me to relax and get some real info on procedures that I'm really nervous about. My next question is how long do you have to wait in between ICSI procedures? I'm assuming it isn't back to back months since I've seen some of the dates posted at the bottom of your replies.
It's so stressful waiting to hear, getting a neg and then how long before you can start again?? Thanks M

mmc. I'm not sure exactly, but I believe "they" prefer you to have had at least three "normal" cycles after an ICSI before trying again. At least, they do at Hammersmith Hospital, London - it may vary at other places.

However, you're more likely to be governed by when there's an appointment available - in our case it's about 8 or 9 months waiting before trying again. To be honest, if we were to try again now, then I don't think we'd be in the right frame of mind - as I'm sure others will agree, a failure really takes it out of you - so (for us, at least) it's probably better that there's a decent amount of time between. Having said that, I imagine that women may well have different feelings with the old "biological clock" ticking away.

So . . . in summary, 3 months minimum but this could vary. Oh and don't be put off by any possible negativity that you may have read in this post - I'm NOT negative about it - quite the contrary! It's just that sometimes one hankers after an ideal world . . . .

Best Regards,

I did back to back and got my best response to stimming ever and also got a BFP.

IVF#1 June 06 - Cancelled
IVF#2 July 06 - Zero Fert
ICSI IVF#3 November 06 - 7 eggs, 2 fert, BFN
ICSI IVF #4 December 06 - 10 eggs, 3 fert, BFP

We would have done back to back from July onward but we had an overseas vacation planned for 3 months.

I am devastated at every BFN but try to get back into it straightaway. I don't feel there's any time to waste.

If you feel you're ready to go again and your dr is happy to do it, I would say go for it :D

....and there is poor old me who has no choice but to wait because it seems my AF is taking an age to get back to normal after my IVF in October!! BFN was on 1st November, then I got a full-on AF on the 5th November. Since then 62 days have elapsed and I had no AF. It seems the AF I had in October 2006 has completely "screwed-up " my insides. I am glad your cycle seems to recover quickly after IVF!!! God if after every IVF I have gaps of 62 days between periods then it is going to take poor old me forever to have lots of tries :(

Clinic policies vary. It seems like a lot of overseas clinics, especially in england require a few AFs between cycles. I did 3 IVF/ICSI back to back (as you can see in my sig). I never had more than 2 wks from BFN to start of stims. RE said no problem going again right away as long as you feel ok physically and emotionally. As you can see, my results actually got better w/each cycle. For me, i liked cycling back2back as i am Type A, and waiting was killer for me. After a BFN, for me it was helpful to jump right back in... helped feeling like i was DOING something about it. I don't regret doing it that way...but, having said that, now after my 3rd cycle, i would say that these took more of a toll on me than i wanted to think at the time. This month off before FET has been very good for me (esp emotionally and mentally). in the end, if your clinic allows back 2 back, take time to decide (that is, assuming you have to do a 2nd--fingers crossed for you :D ), consider your personality, how you are doing emotionally, your relationship w/dh, )family support and other activities (i.e., job).

Good luck to you!!!
