Hey everyone- first off thanks for all your well wishes, crossings, and prayers. WE SAW A HEARTBEAT!!! I am six weeks today and it was fluttering away at 96 bpm. I am finally able to breathe a sigh of relief, although it will probably last about five minutes. My doctor said that given my age, my chances of miscarriage are still at 20%. I go back Monday, Aug. 5th for another u/s. She said that if everything looks good then, my chances drop below 10%- sooooo- next hurdle!! But, for today, I am not even going to attempt to wipe the permanent smile that is plastered across my face!!! :D :D :D :D

Hello former cycle buddies and mothers-to-be,
sorry for the long post...

Back from the doctor and am in a bit of a holding pattern, but in a good way -- ??

He wants to try to find the reason why at least one of the embies didn't decide to stick, because apparently the hormone tests he did along with the Beta suggest that one tried to dig in for a bit... He thinks it possibly has something to do with my ability, or rather lack of ability to absorb key vitamins, minerals and important hormones, like estrogen and therefore create/not create the right environment for implantation....Guess these things just flow in and flow back out...so, after I undergo more tests he'll decide on the next course of treatment to try and maximize my chance of success.

For now, he's starting me on DHEA...I know, a controversial treatment, especially in the US, but becoming increasingly more common for women over 40...but it is supposed to help promote natural estrogen production in the ovaries...

Well, he and his staff are off on vacation for the next 6 weeks and I'll get my tests done and enjoy the rest of the summer and we'll meet again in September. Depending on what the tests show, I'll start in Sept/Oct or 2-3 months after that...But, of course everything will depend on the weather as we have to drive about 4 hours to Innsbruck to get to our clinic....

Funny, he is so confident it will work based on the quality of our egg & sperm combo, I can't help but be positive --
Man, I hope he's right that it really can work!
At least he's doing more research and it feels like he's trying to help us realize our dream to become a little family...and hasn't just said, okay, let's just try again!

Not sure how often I'll check in till Sept, so I want to wish you all the very best till then!! I'll be thinking of you.

Hope you all see those little hearts beating away and your babies growing and developing in the coming weeks and months.

To Melanie and everyone else beginning treatment again, I wish you all the best of luck! Perhaps we'll meet each other again on the next cycle.

Take care of yourselves,
xx Amy :D

Amy,

Glad to hear that you are being taken care of and probably best to know everything before going into your next cycle. Especially with the emotional and monetary expense IVF has. Hope all goes well and enjoy the rest of your summer. Have a glass of wine for me!

All,
Had my first ultrasound today and there is ONE baby settling in. We saw the tiny one's heart beating away. This has got to be one of the most reassuring scans. We're looking forward to adding another angel to our family.

I had my ultrasound today. My baby measured 8.7 mm. I got to see and hear the heartbeat. It was music to my ears. My heart was beating so loud and hard that they had to make me hold my breath so they could measure the baby's heartrate. It was 134.
They did find three cysts on my ovaries, and that my left ovary was pretty big. They said that it should be ok and they should go away in 4-6 weeks.
I go back in two weeks for another u/s and in three weeks I get to go to my OB.
I feel so much more relieved now...until tomorrow I'm sure.

hey ladies how is everyone?? i had my 9wk apt today and things with our baby couldnt be better, at our ultrasound im 9wks and 1day but baby is meauring at 9wks and 2days i must say i have a big baby!! today on the ultrasound which i also got on video, baby was moving around and my doctor pointed out everything his/her hands, feet, facial features and even got to see the umbilical cord which is attached to the placenta. the heart is still fluttering away and things look great. next week i get my blood drawn for the first trimester prenatal testing, they are doing blood work and then 2wks later doing what they call a nuctual lutency ultrasound which is all testing for down syndrome. my doctor said not to worry though they do it in all frist trimester pregnancies now, they use to do it only in women of 35 and over but they check everyone which im fine with he also said its nothing i should be concerned about cause its not in my fam history or my hubbys so its just routine and im ok with it. so far all bloodwork and ultrasounds have shown baby being healthy and right on schedule so for once in my life im calm. i also learned that i will be leaving my fertility clinic in 3 weeks when i hit 12 wks the first trimester isnt considered over until the 14th week but he feel its time for me to "graduate" so to speak and move on to my ob/gyn which also means NO MORE INJECTIONS WOOHOOO!! but it also means that my ultrasounds and videos will stop, its kinda sad because they are great people but my pregnancy is progressing beautifully so it will be soon time to move on, and only get an ultrasound maybe once a month im not sure yet. because of past history im considered high risk so i think i get seen more often but ill find out on the 29th and of course keep you all posted!! so things on this end are really good i feel great, my babies healthy and im coming up on my 3yr wedding anniversary in 2 1/2 weeks so things really couldnt be better, i hope all you ladies are doing well!

I had my 8-week appt. yesterday. I was released to my OB at six weeks so it was the standard first check-up appointment. I guess since I have had no problems thus far, they do not forsee any. The coolest part was the doctor put the Doppler (heartrate detector) on my stomach and said, "I don't expect to hear anything this early, but we will give it a try." Well within a few seconds, we heard a strong heartbeat and he was shocked. Baby must have been in just the right place. My next appt. is in 4 weeks and I don't get an ultrasound until 18 weeks!! It is really spread out this time. I hope I can wait that long.

Brandi - Sounds like you are really getting great attention from your fertility doc. I don't know if mine is being lax since this is my second pregnancy. I am definitely much more laid back this time around. I do like to sleep a lot though!

Take Care,
Sher8

Hi everyone,
thanks so much for continuing to post your news on this thread! Really great to hear how well you and your babies are doing!

I'm just back from a short vacation on Lake Como. Just got in the car and drove and ended up there at the end of the first day. Had a wonderful time - relaxed, ate, drank, swam, hiked...felt great to unwind and spend time with my DH...

Hope you girls that are still in a holding pattern are doing well, too!

xx Amy

As in Lake Como, Italy!?!? I am sooo jealous. DH and I have been trying to plan a trip to Italy someday. Wine tasting in Tuscany is one of my lifelong dreams.

Sounds like you are doing just what the doctor ordered Amy!

Hi Jen! Thanks for still thinking of me! I've been lurking around over there on March 08 to keep up with you girls...I'm so excited everything is going so well for you! Looks like I'll be starting my IVF#2 on 9/5 or 9/6. I could've started with this last period but decided to wait one more cycle to just let everything calm down in there. My ovaries were hurting but now feel better. They don't want me to go on any BCP at all. Just 3 days of lupron, then high dose stims. So it'll all happen fast. Looking at egg retrievel in mid-Sept. I'm excited and hopeful again. Have started acupuncture for the heck of it. We'll see, hopefully it'll help! I'm thinking of you!!!

Hey Melanie- That's great news!! When we went through those 5 failed IUIs I would always be so upset until it was time to start again, then I would get excited- I'm glad the hope and excitement is about to start again for you. I have read that acupuncture improves success rates, so I think it's a good idea. I did it twice with my last IUI- probably not long enough to help- but it WAS very relaxing. This new protocol sounds great- not all the boring waiting while on BCP. There was a couple in the office the other day who was just starting the whole process- I heard Tammy explaining about why the BCP pills were necessary. My husband and I groaned, thinking about how long the process was. Your next cycle should go quickly!!
Last week I had my last RE appointment- they've released me to my regular obgyn. I saw Dr. Toner- it was bittersweet as I feel like they've taken such good care of me. I told him that they should also deliver these babies that they helped to create!!! I love my obgyn, but somehow feel like I'll just be another "normal" pregnant person- maybe I should try to embrace that, but I'm still scared everyday of miscarriage. I'm still spotting- I had stopped for about 5 days but it came back- Dr. Toner said the placenta is attached and that it is probably cervical, but every time I see that small spot of blood, I wonder if today is the day that it all comes crashing down- I'm TRYING to relax, but it's very hard!!
Anyway, sorry for the book. I'll be checking often to see how you're progressing!! I'm sending you all my great thoughts!!!!

Hello all,

I had my second u/s today. The baby measures 20.9 mm and has a heart rate of 163. We could see its little legs and arms moving around. The u/s tech said it looked like it was doing a little dance. I have been released to my ob and I go there next week. My cysts are still there. Two weeks ago, they only mentioned 3 but today they said there were 6. He did mention that it seems they have shrunk a little and it may take about 6 more weeks. He doesn't seemed worried about it, so I won't either. I feel a little relieved because I have not felt pregnant, whatever that is suppose to feel like. I have had no nausea/vomiting or no spotting/cramping, I have been tired, breasts slightly tender and lower back pain (but I get the back pain a lot anyway).
Melanie - it sounds like they have really thought about your next plan. Sept. will be here before you know it, although it probably feels like forever away. Good luck with your next cycle.
I hope everyone else is doing well.

Hi Melanie, best of luck to you in September! How often and for how long are you going for acupuncture treatment?
wishing you all the best!

To Kerri, made me smile to think of your baby dancing - it must feel pretty comfortable inside! wonderful to read about your progress.

Thanks for the updates from Sher and Brandi and Jen -- I'll check out the March 08 thread to keep track of you guys! I wish you all smooth and uncomplicated pregnancies.

I was at the doctor this morning, who took 5 or 6 vials of blood from me - in order to run tests to better figure out where my problem might lie and to improve my treatment for the next time, which we hope will be in Sept or October.

Take care and enjoy your day,
Amy
