Had a pregnancy test on Friday and was told first that there was a 50-50 chance I was pregnant and that they would send my results to the lab for clarification. A few agonizing hours later, was told that yes, it was a BFP and to come back today for another blood test.
After my blood test today, I learned (many agonizing hours later) that my HCG levels had not increased signifcantly -- 38 from 32 on Friday. The nurse said it could either mean it was "not a viable pregnancy" or a "possible ectopic" and explained that meant the embryos may have implanted outside of the womb. I am to return on Wednesday for another test. I'm really confused as to what this means -- though she did say it meant that my pregnancy was no longer "viable."
What does this really mean? Am I awaiting an impending miscarriage? (I'm only in very very early pregnancy). Or if ectopic, what are the next steps? Any advice would be much appreciated.
A little about my history: This is my third IVF attempt, after 2 failed attempts, and then a myomectomy to remove 9 large fibroids about one year ago. DH and I tried naturally for the last several months and then decided to give another go at IVF. Everything went very smoothly -- good response to the hormones, decent number of eggs, 1 blasto and 1 almost-blasto were transferred back (first time we'd ever made it to blastocyst). Sigh.
