Hello all! Well, we took our first Lupron shot last night - let the games begin!! :) The Lupron shot was easy...it is the others I dread! I did Menopur and Follistim when I did my IUI's and not looking forward to doing those combined with the Lupron. Whew.... :( Where do you all take your Lupron shots? The stomach?

Itsgottawork - Looks like my ER will be scheduled for right after Thanksgiving which is ideal. Hopefully by the 1st of Dec, they will be implanted.

4ourbaby - I usually handle the drugs pretty well and don't have many side effects. Then again, this is my first time to take Lupron. It will be interesting to see if I get any side effects. Congrats on your anniversary!

dancinnancy - how are you doing? AF showed up yet??

Stephanievt97 - you are well on your way now! Now, the fun really begins with the BIG needles!! :)

BabY0807 - Welcome to the group!!!

Take care, ladies!!!

You go stephanievt97! You're on your way! What day did AF arrive for you, if you don't mind me asking? I'm on day 12 right now & still no AF...she's being stubborn & doesn't want the party to begin.

tinaO - I take my Lupron on my lower abs - to the right or left of my belly-button - maybe a little further down.

babY0807 - welcome aboard!

tinaO-
That's cool that the schedule works out for you. I am hoping it will work out for us too. We are supposed to travel that Wednesday night/Thursday but everything is up in the air. I know the real 2ww is going to be tough though because I am feeling anxious just waiting less than 2 weeks for procedure dates!
I have been doing the injections in my upper thighs. I was told to rotate areas but it seems the legs work best for me. My right leg in particular. I have had no problem. I don't know if I had a dull needle or what but it took a few tries to get the needle in my left leg. I guess because of the angle and I wasn't doing it quick/strong enough. I had tried my stomach that day too but finally was able to do the leg. I guess I'll try the stomach again but I feel right now that I am going to like the days where I get to do my right leg. :)
I have a few questions for everyone:
1. How many eggs are you going to transfer? My doctor said no more than two given my age (32) and the nurse said that if they are in good shape they might only transfer one. I am hoping for 2 but I guess I won't know until the actual transfer date what I will get to do.
2. Are people rotating Lupron injection areas and if so is left to right leg sufficient or do you switch to different areas all together?
3. Has anyone had any issues using a gonal-f injection pen for the stims? I am just getting used to the insulin type needles and am a little nervous about using the pens.

Congratulations to stephanievt97 on AF! Dancinnancy and babY0807, hopefully AF will be there soon for you too!
I am hoping to get mine before next Friday. If I were on a normal cycle, I would expect it to be here Monday/Tuesday and they said to call before Friday if I don't have it (that's when my next appt is). Have you guys been much later than what you would have been if this was a normal cycle?

Good luck to everyone!!!

Dancin- she arrived full force overnight Wed-Thurs. Wed was my 13th Lupron shot. She spotted some Tuesday and Wed (I thought she was arriving, but she faked me out before). So I go back to RE tomorrow am- he said he wanted to see me again once I had full flow so my uterine lining wouldn't be as thick and will probably start stims tomorrow night!

TinaO-I can do the Lupron and stims in my stomach and/or thighs. So far I've only done the Lupron and I've done them all in my stomach.

Itsgottawork's questions:
(1) They say 1-2 for first attempt for my age (32), but I'm going to beg for 2.
(2) I rotate on my stomach. High right of belly button, high left, low right, low left. I haven't done the thighs yet.
(3) I haven't started Gonal F yet.

AF came right about when she normally would (when not on progesterone for IUIs)

Hello! Hope everyone is doing well!

ItsGottawork -

1. I am turning 37 in a few weeks, so I am almost positive the plan is to transfer two. I don't want them to transfer more than that as I am really petite and the docs are scared of me carrying more than one anyway. I am sure I can handle twins, but triplets would be really tough I would think.

2. I got used to taking the Follistim and menopur shots in my stomach for my IUI's, so that is where I have been taking them. I just rotate sides. I have never given myself a shot - my husband does it!! I don't think I could do it to myself!!! :) I am a wimp!!!!

3. I actually liked the pen when we used it for our IUI's. It seemed less painful and just easier than the menopur where you have to mix things. I thought it hurt less, too!! :D

Stephanie - you are on your way! Yeah!!! :)

How is everyone else doing? Hopefully everyone is thinking positive thoughts!!!

IVF 1st Cycle

Post by LAIVF »

Hi Everyone!

We just started our 1st IVF cycle :). I started on Lupron on October 27. Just got my AF today...it's been a really heavy period. Also, I have gained about 5 lbs on the lupron and have been really emotional. We go to the Doc tomorrow for a supression check.

So excited to have found this forum, it's nice to know I'm not the only person going thu this and will have buddies on the way!

hey tinaO!

This is great.....I love that we are all on the same track.

Just to fill everyone in I am 32 and DH is 41. We have been TTC for 1.5 years. He has really low sperm count (1 million) so we will be doing ICSI.
We are off to the doctor in about an hour so I will fill everyone in when I get back.

Prayers for everyone!

:(
No AF yet. I'm on day 14 on the Lupron, and no sign of AF - other than some mild cramps. I had blood work done yesterday to check my estrodial & progesterone & I heard back today that my levels were still slightly elevated. So, they are thinking that I may have ovulated while taking the Lupron...? Sounds strange, doesn't it? Anyway, they are keeping me on the Lupron & if AF doesn't arrive by next Friday they'll either give me a shot (I think progesterone in oil) or provera to start AF. Although I will beg and plead and insist to not take the provera, I took that previously to start a cycle & I experienced a horrible weekend of non stops cramps!

I was wondering if anyone was doing any hollistic healing sessions in conjunction with IVF? I get theraputic messages every once in a while, but I keep hearing about this Mayan Abdominal massage. I had someone recommend me to this woman in Syracuse - central NY - which is also where we'll be going for ER and transfer. So, I'm thinking I might look into one or two sessions. Anyone have any experience with this or hear anything about this?

I am doing acupuncture. But with that I am doing meditation and some accupressure massage type things. The abdominal massage it is the same pressure points that they use in Acupuncture to increase blood flow to the uterus. Also, lower back massage is good. Just make sure you don't do any of that after the embryo transfer. I am about willing to try anything!

I just wish AF would arrive so that I could get started. I am now at day 12 of Lupron shots.

Hey everyone!

Odie - So glad you are joining the group.

I started my lupron on the 27th and just started my AF the other day....the nurse at our clinic told me that she wouldn't be concerned even if I didn't start until mid-November and even then she wasn't concerned.....she was more concerned about starting me close to Thankgiving due to the lab being closed certain days. So I wouldn't worry at all.

Quick ? to the girlies who have taken the Menapure, started on gonal f & menapure last night and didn't think it was so bad. But this is how I felt the first time I took Lupron and then by the 2nd week of it..I was like "I hate this!".....because it made me feel so bad.....is Menapure and Gonal F going to make me feel just as bad?

Thanks girlies!!!!

Well I have to agree about the Lupron. I thought everything was fine- but really I feel terrible now. But, I was told yesterday by my RE nurse that the Menopur will balance out some of the effects of the Lupron and that most people feel pretty good on it.

Welcome Odie- I am also still waiting for AF to arrive and it is driving me crazy too.
