Hello ladies ,

Welcome Magic . Glad to hear you'll wait to do the test. In Canada we also do a blood test . Ifind it weird that they gave you a test to do at home.

Mimi , My test is actually schedule for Nov 19th but like I said before I'm not gonna go on the 19th. I'm gonna wait a little longer ,then do the test at home . I find it too hard to do the test at the clinic and receive a call later that day saying sorry it came out negative . Every time I've done IVf AF came either before the test or a few days after the test .So I figured if af is not here a week after the test is schedule then my chances are pretty darn good of getting a positive .

Neeve, I'm sending you Possitive vibes .Hang in there .

I've just looked at the test I was given and it is an HCG urine test so that must be the same as a pee on a stick test you get from the pharmacy?!?! I'll call them on Monday to see why they don't do a blood test - wierd...

mlifp,
Does the clinic/fertility center you go to know your not going to come in for your beta blood test on the 19th and plan to do a HPT later on at home. I ask this because not only am I also going through the IVF process, but I am also a nurse. I know the importance of the beta test. You see the blood test they do also known as a beta test, allows them to know the amount of HCG in the blood at 14 days post transfer, then that allows them them monitor the increase in HCG every 48 to 72 hour (expect 50 - 66% increase) It is the increase that determines the viability of the embryo. I'm not saying your wrong to want to do a HPT later. I'm just saying you should definately let your IVF center know your plans and see what they say. In fact you could always go in for the beta test and ask they not tell you the results, that you will be testing on your own later. At least that way, they have the base number. Think about it.

Magic,
I think your clinic might be sending you home with a HIGH sensitivity test. A test that detects as little as 15 to 20 Imu/ml HCG. The ones you get in your pharmacy are mostly low sensitivity test 50 - 100 Imu/ml (some are 25 Imu/ml). Anyway, your clinic may only do a beta test AFTER you get a positive preg test at home. Please let me know what you find out.

Mimi,
Thanks, for your support and empathy, I really appreciate it and
need it right now. Yes I do take the move forward approach. I think if I stop it would be much more painful to my heart. The sooner we do this again, the sooner I can get pregnant. How is your pregnancy doing by the way? Still no symptoms? Boobies hurt yet?? . When you talk to your little embryo in your belly, tell he/she I said hi LOL :D .

Neeve,
Thank you for your kind words. I imagine you can feel my pain. How are you hanging in there? I am so hoping you don't have the same result as me. I know your feeling low cuz you took that HPT, but you probably took a low sensitivity test, so there is a higher increase in a false negative. It's still possible you'll get a BFP at beta time. I'm praying for you!

Schel, Question for you . I don't understand what difference would it make if I went in and it was negative or even if it was possitive . If it was positive and the HCG level was not doubling then what would happen? Please let me know,I didn't realize how ignorant I was when it came to this . I guess maybe I'm being selfish by not wanting to know .

I will however send an email to the nurse to tell her what my plans are . I didn't realize it was that important . I thought it was only for the results.

Neeve , maybe you should go in tomorrow for your test .We'll all be thinking of you :)

Hope everyone else is doing good.

morning, here, early actually. son woke up at 600 this morning, which was good because i was having a dream that i started bleeding. the good thing was i went in to the dr. (in the dream) and they said i wasn't m/c. i can't believe how much i am scared of this. i can't even be excited. i have no symptoms yet! sometimes i wish i did have my head in the toilet!

mlifp, i must have forgotten the 1 when i wrote down your test date, sorry. i do agree with schel about letting your re know your plans. hang in there, every day gone is a day closer. :)

neeve, yeah no af! let yourself feel positive, i know the fall can be hard, but it is anyway isn't it? you aren't going in on monday?

schel, you are so sweet with all your kind and helpful words to us all. i am really thinking about you and like your attitude. i was looking back at my notes and know you have been ttc for 11 yrs., but not sure what number ivf this was for you. also, don't have a number written down for if you had any frozen embies, sorry if you have to repeat yourself on this one. i told baby (and i think it's a boy) hi from you.

Hi ladies how are you all doing?

I have had another day of no cramps which I assume is a good thing? Had a bit of nausea this morning but I think I was hungry. Had a lazy day and a snooze this afternoon (I love having a snooze so it's great to have an excuse!)

So work tomorrow, got to tell my team I resigned last week, mmm supposed to have no stress! I'm going to work with DH, a decision we have made to either have less stress during pregnancy or through the next round of IVF. I have to travel to China and Turkey a lot and have a couple of highly strung people in my team so I'm outta there!

How are you all feeling? Neeve are you testing tomorrow?

Lots of extra sparkly baby dust coming out to all of you :D

Q and A

Post by schel67 »

Mlifp,
I'm not sure I understand your question, but I'll try to answer. The difference if you go in and take the test when scheduled (typically 14 days post transfer) is the amount of HCG detected in the blood. This amount is the baseline number to begin an assessment of the viability of the embryo as the amount of hcg should at least double every 2 to 3 days. a level of around 100 is average at day 14, but some embryos are lower and may have higher risk of miscarrage. The level increase is monitored more closely. If HCG levels do not increase it could and more probably lead to miscarrage because the embryo stopped growing, which is more commonly due to chromosomal abnormality. Hcg level can also determine multiple implantation.

A great site that explains hcg is http://www.tubal-reversal.net/hcg-pregn ... -graph.php.

If I didn't answer your question, please rephrase that I might understand and answer correctly. I think it's a good thing that you are going to share your plans with your clinic, if they don't care, and can adjust your care plan then I guess it's all good. Please keep me updated.

TTC / IVF

Post by schel67 »

Mimi asked what number ivf this was for me, and if I have any frozen embies. Here's my TTC and IVF autobiography for anyone interested LOL.

My husband and I have been Married for 11 years now and have never used protection, but we weren't exactly actively trying with focus on ovulating days or any method as of that matter. We'd just do the baby dance here and there and hope we hit the right time. We actually didn't start the IVF ball rolling until may of 2006 when I quit my nursing job in order to be able to get all my test done to even consider if we were good candidates for IVF with donor eggs. My husband had no trouble taking time off for his tests, but being a nurse in the O.R. I couldn't get the time off and they wouldn't reduce my work days, that's why I had to quit. Now I'm glad I had to quit cuz it is so much less stress! we finally got all our test done and our IVF contract was signed the end of Dec 2006.

So far we have been through 2 fresh cycle and 2 Frozen transfers. The first fresh cycle we had 9 - 3 day embryos. 3 were tranfered and 6 frozen. The transfer went quite horrid because the RE couldn't see my uterus on the ultrasound and I was never mapped out prior to the transfer. So the first 3 embryos transfered were wasted cuz they were placed in the wrong spot. After the failed transfer my uterus was mapped out and my first FET went very smooth. Unfortunately, none of the 3 that survived and transfered, implanted.

Our 2nd Fresh cycle we had 12 embryos day 3 and decided we would let them grow to day 5 (blastocyst). 9 out of 12 made it to the blast stage. 2 were transfer. The transfer went smooth again, but the RE still can't visibly see my uterus on the ultrasound. I got a BFP with that transfer, but it started with a low HCG of only 14. It was actually increasing nicely the first 2 times I went in to retest. Then sadly it took a fall and after a follow up test it took a greater fall in numbers and the RE told me he was sorry but I miscarried and I should go off my hormones and wait for AF.
Next we did our 2nd FET and 3 were transfer with one questionable on viability. 1 was even hatched out, I was sure this would be my time.

As you know, it wasn't. I'm glad I met you ladies here to help me get through my disapointment. I will be there for you as you have for me, sharing the joy and/or frustration. I appreciate each one of you and your kind words have been heart felt. A deepest thank you

Post by schel67 »

Mimi,
How you doing? What r u doing to relax? Exercise is great for anxiety. Something as simple as walking 15 minutes a day, or yoga. Babyfit.com has a great site with excellent pregnacy exercises and recipes. It is a great site for keeping track of your pregnancy and keeping youself healthy through it. Please check it out and tell me what you think. My prayer for you is that Lord bless you and give you patience and peace so you are able to enjoy this your pregnancy.

Neeve,
I'm praying for a BFP for you tomorrow! :D Baby dust all over you! I'll be checking in tomorrow for your result. I'll also be updating on our follow up visit with our RE :?: .

I'm having up's and down's . My cramps are going away which make me worried. My doctor said if I was to get pregnant the OHSS would get worst but I'm feeling alot better then last week . My bbs are sore but that's about it . I have shap cramps maybe once a day but the rest is mild very mild crampswhich this morning I can't feel. I know they say not to worry about the signs but my doctor said it would get worst. I still have a pain in my lungs very small pain probably because my bbs got bigger since all the medication .

Is all of this normal?

Talk to you soon and baby dust to everyone .

Oh yeah before I go Schel when they did your transfer was it on a full bladder?

welcome back mandyluckypants! i think the cramping on those days is good...implantation? hang in there, just a few more days. i know it's hard to wait, but i would recommend trying to hold off until thursday. you'd hate to get a false negative because it was too early.

neeve, i'm sending positive vibes your way and praying you get your bfp today. let us know asap! best of luck

mlifp, i don't have ohhs, so i don't know what is normal and what isn't but from my experience it is best not to read into what your body is doing too much. it is such a rollercoaster and there is nothing that will tell you for sure you are bfp until the bloodwork is done. my mil kept asking me how i was feeling, i just said "i'm trying not to think about it or read into it too much." and i was. i know it's hard, but so are the ups and downs. hang in there!

schel, thank you so much for your prayers, i truly believe they are the greatest power on earth. i have used that site...got weekly updates with my son and have signed up for this pregnancy. what a story! my heart just broke reading it. i know you have faith and believe you will get a baby, so it will be. let us know how today goes with re, sounds like it would be a fresh cycle? also sounds like you make a lot of good eggs. will they be doing any assisted hatching? are you taking medrol? just some things my re changed after failed ivf. are you in the states?
i knit, so i have been doing a lot of that. my dh works 7 days a wk (holiday season) 9-10, so it's just my 2 yr. old son and i most of the time...it's tiring, but we make it work. we have a dog too, so we get out for a walk with him often. i also have a treadmill and will be able to walk at home too. i am a firm believer in exercise and good health...just have to find the energy. it's the only symptom i'm having! no sore boobs! is this normal?

magic, still hanging in there and taking care of yourself?
