Egg Collection+ Transfer

Post by alaskadas »

Im just about to have my eggs collected on Tuesday and Im in panic!

This is my first IVf and hope to be the last one. Its just too much stress!
I just wonder... is the EC painful? Do you have to rest for few days? What about the transfer?

I would like to hear your experience...

Poor thing! I was just there a few weeks ago myself. The ER does not hurt! You might have a little "period" pain afterwards but it goes away real fast. Rest the rest of the day after ER and take it easy the days later. For ET does not hurt whatsoever. And I was on bed rest for 2 days. Most doctors say only one but I did two to be sure. Dont worry everything will be fine! Just follow your doctors orders and make your self comfortable. Take it easy for the next few weeks till your BFP!

Drink plenty of fluids and rest!

Do you know if you will be given anesthesia or just a sedative? I've been under anesthesia all 3 ER's - not painful at all. Just groggy after I woke up. Next day was sore enough that I was glad not to have to go to work.

For ET I always opted for the relaxant pill they gave me. First two IVF's ET was more uncomfortable than the third. Not painful though but I thought it took longer that it should have. This time (3rd time), ET took no more than 5 minutes. Went straight home after, and stayed in bed for a full week (RE doesn't have us come in until beta). Had some cramping during the week but nothing that bad.

I just had my egg retrieval on tuesday (1/29) and my transfer is this sunday 2/3. the retrieval didn't hurt. they put me under anesthesia, so i didn't feel a thing, i was totally out. at that point, it just depends on how you react to the after-effects of anesthesia. i came home and slept, took the next day off work also and i've been back at work for 2 days now.

i hear tranfer is easy...they're giving me valium to relax the uterine muscles and i'm also doing a session of accupuncture right before and right after the transfer.

best of luck!

Thanks for sharng your experiences....
Goosemis,

I have been told that they will give some sedative for the EC, not for the ET though.
I guess I will ask them...
I really dont like to feel pain.

Another question, for the ET do you find necessary that my husband comes along with me?

21bat,
Good luck tomorrow!!

Hi alaskadas, i got sedation for ER, felt worse the day after but not too bad. As for ET you don't need anything its just like having a smear only slightly longer. i have a kinked cervix and ET was difficult and took longer, however the most uncomfortable part of it all is the full bladder.
As for DH being with you, its apersonal choice but mine was there for all and personally it means you are both involved, we always got a picture of the embies before they were put back its quite special to share the journey to the end.
good luck to you and relax.

I had consciuos sedation for my ER and woke up both times due to pain. But it is tolerable. Went home and rested. ETs were not a big deal at all, really just like a pap without the scraping  . My clinic requires that the DH be present for the ET, not sure why, but I wouldn't have it any other way. They too also gave us pictures of the little embies being transferred. I hung them on my refirgerator the first go round. After BFN, had hubby toss them for me, couldn't look at them. Second time around, kept them in my jewelry box even though BFN, didn't toss them because even if for only a few days, they were my babies. Also this 3rd time they are in the jewelry box, won't toss these either no matter which way this turns out for me.

For the ET I had the choice to take a very low dose of valium, this helps you relax but also helps keep the uterin contractions away. I took it, really didn't feel groggy or drugged due to such a low dose, but didn't feel any cramping either, so... it really is a matter of comfort.

For my ET DH was with me. RE didn't want me driving home so it was nice that I was able to start my "rest" on the way home (we have a 45 minute drive home).

My experience was -This morning I had the EC - I didnt feel anything. Slept all the way through.
At the moment just feel very lazy, not feeling doing anything.
I had 12 eggs collected. Tomorrow, I have to call the clinic and see hows the situation.
