Gecko- I am sorry that you have had some spotting- but don't worry- your little bean is safe with a strong heart beat - a friend of mine had spotting straight through 5 months and she has a healthy happy 7 month old!
keep up the PMA

I've started to get M/S Grrrr- not getting sick, just feeling like i am going to from about 11am- 3pm- really bad timing as i am supposed to be in class during that time! other than that- 11 weeks and going strong - a little tug here and there in the belly

hope the nuchals went great for everyone!

sug- you are only 23- why are you doing a 16wk genetic test? is this tenst invasive? are there complications or something? is this usual?

I just did the blood droplets on paper that i mailed to some lab - supposed to be for some test or another -

anyhow- feelin' a bit barfy, and it's raining

Good Luck today, Rio and Katie!

Gecko: I have been thinking about you and praying for your little one.

Loopie: I know what you mean. I have been getting a little bit of waves of m/s too. Not bad, and eating usually helps.

Suga: Yay for no more headaches. I hope it continues to be good for you.

Mellie: How are you doing? I would be really upset too if other people were spilling my news.

Corny: Great news about your babies. That is awesome. Sorry about the third little one.

Mia, Weezie, and everyone else. How is it going?

I had some cramping and yellowish orange spotting Thurs and Friday and so I called the doc. They never seem too concerned about anything, which bothers me. They said sounds like another yeast infection...so I started the monistat again. The cramping could be round ligament pain and I do feel better today....so who knows. I was concerned that it was another UTI ...but they werent. Oh well. I am supposed to call back today and let them know how I am feeling. Problem is ...I am not sure. I didnt have any symtoms the first time they told me that I had a UTI....so how do I really know if I have one or not? Other than that....nothing new is going on.

I went for my combined Nuchal test and blood panel today.
I am 37 and started out with 1:171 chance for Downs due to age.
The babie's nuchal fold measured a healthy 1.4 mm which is a normal result (anything under 2.8mm is considered normal so we were on the great side of the scale there)
Now my first trimester blood screening was not good Hcg was 1.21 (60th percentile) and Papp was 0.38 which is 10 percentile. So here were the results:

DOWN SYNDROME
BEFORE 1:171 AFTER:1:193 RESULTS:INCREASED RISK

TRISOMY 18/13
BEFORE 1:150 AFTER 1:6,081 RESULTS: WITHIN RANGE

I am completely devasted and can't stop crying. Everything measured great with the baby, head, limbs, heart, stomach, brains and also the Doctor doing the u/s said that everythig looked great. So I go into the room expecting god news and BAM! I get hit with my crappy blood results and an "INCREASED RISK" to go with it.

I don't know what to do with myself right now...

Hey girls just a quick note - I ahve been so busy with work - and when I am not working I just want to sleep :( Everything is going fine though - just trying to eat moreoften - I am not getting enough in me. Other than that cramping at night boobs still look so different - very bloated looking at night but still in my old clothes.

Hope everyone is well.

rio - I posted on the other post, but want to reiterate my prayers for you here. How are you doing? Are you feeling calmer now that you have some time? How is your DH doing? What are your next steps? You are in my thoughts. Keep us posted.

Katie - How did your testing go? I hope everything is ok.

Tammy - I hope you don't have another UTI. It sounds very unpleasant!

loopie- I had the same thing happen with m/s. Mine kicked into high gear about 2-3 weeks ago and all I could eat was starches. Everything else made me sick. The good news is that it has gotten much better this week, so there is a light at the end of the pukey tunnel!

Thanks everybody for your kind words of encouragement. I saw my regular doctor today and she did a very thorough exam and everything looks fine. My cervix was long and closed, there are no placenta problems and the baby was doing great. She just can't explain the bleeding and said it was "just one of those things" we experience in pregnancy sometimes. I also explained all the pains I was/am having and she said they all sound like they are from the uterus growing. I am very relieved and happy that I went. I am hoping that this is a one time event! It just seems like it is always something, though, doesn't it?

However, about the four pounds I gained in the last two weeks......woof! I need to seriously get back on track with some healthy eating!

Hope everyone is well.

Hey Rio - Hope you're hanging in there. We're thinking about you. I thought you might like to see what's in the handout my doc gave me about the screening test. It says "Most women with 'screen positive' results have normal follow-up tests and healthy babies". Also, I found this website for you:

http://www.womenandinfants.org/body.cfm?id=696

I can't vouch for its accuracy but it looks like it's affiliated w/a hospital. Anyway, here's a quote:

-------------------------
The result is screen positive if the risk of Down syndrome in the first trimester is 1 in 230 or greater. About 1 in every 20 women screened will be in this group.

Most women with screen positive results do not have a pregnancy with Down syndrome. For example, of about 50 women with screen positive results for Down syndrome, only 1 would have an affected pregnancy.
-------------------------

Have you given your doc a call? It seems like they should've interpreted things a bit better for you. If your results really mean that you have only a 1 in 193 chance then I think you should be able to take a deep breath and feel pretty confident that everything's gonna be all right. Which it is. :)

Gecko - I'm so glad everything turned out ok for you. You'd think with all we went through to get pregnant that Mother Nature would give us a little break but I guess she wants to keep us on our toes, huh? I'm happy for you.

Tammy/Rio/Gecko/Loopie - Thanks for the support. I'm sorry to all of you guys to whose pregnancies have been "outed" before you were ready. After all this, we are all gonna have the best pregnancy etiquette in the years to come to the benefit of our friends and work colleagues :D

Thank you so much for your support, Mellie thanks for the link! You girls are awesome!

DH and I decided to go talk to the OB asap because I read that low papp-a is linked to placenta issues and premature birth, also fetal development issues where it does not let the baby grow. This is all strange to me since our bean has been measuring 6 to 3 days ahead of schedule every time. I will wait to see what he says.
It really seems like there is an overwhelming chance of the baby being fine as to the chance of it not being ok.

Now for the good news :D , during the u/s, the baby stretched his arms out and pushed, pushed his legs up like situps, moved around like a crazy boy and get this: put his little thumb in his mouth!!! It was the cutest thing ever! He looked pretty comfortable and with space in there so go figure! We hadsuch a positive u/s that I guess that why I tok it so hard when the blood results came. the geneticist was very matter of fct and didn't even menttion false positives!

Mellie
- again thank you so much for the links and your posts, they have helped me a lot!
Katie- let us know how your results go and I am praying for incredibly low odds!
Gecko - I am so glad to hear that everything is great, what a scare! it really never ends! Just when you think you can cruise along... I am really happy for you!
Mia- thank you for your words, I am glad to hear everything is going great for you!
Tammy- hope you don't have a UTI! Good luck!

Rio- I was devestated to read your post. However, looking over some of the responses and doing a bit of research, these tests seem to have a high rate of false positives. I'm glad to see that you and DH are going back to talk to the OB. You are a very strong woman. Dig deep and find that strength and keep positive right now. I know your bean is just fine. And how wonderful your little one put on a great show for you to watch while doing the testing. I would have been all weepy.

Gecko- I'm soooo glad to read that your visit went well. I was thinking about you a lot yesterday.

Jomae- great pic of the little one.

Tammy - I hope you get this infection under control quickly. I'm guessing it must be a real pain. rrrrrr... Hopefully, all the infections you are having will be some sort of a wierd sign that your second and third trimester will be a breeze.

Katie- I hope you get great results next week!!!

Loopie- sorry to hear about the m/s. Hope it passes soon. Hang in there!

Well, DH is really trying to be nice. He went out and bought me a new car friday. But no matter what he does, it seems like I am just furious with him. I swear it's not me though (is it ever?). I just find his tone with me to be so derogatory. It drives me nuts! We even got into it again Sunday night and he sniped that he wanted a divorce. So I left and went to my parents house. He called me the yesterday morning and took a personal day to drive with me to Houston for my visit. He is trying harder. But I just feel so indifferent. I hope this is just hormones. Anyway, the visit went as well as can be expected. My baby measured 11w3d and I'm only 10w5d. But I was on pins and needles until I saw the heartbeat. My other baby is slowly being absorbed. It measured a week smaller than it did 6 days ago. I have been released from my RE and see my OB this Thursday. Morbid as it sounds, I hope he continues the scans weekly until my other baby is completly gone. I'm just so nervous.

Rio I hope your are doing better im glad you had such a great US. I did too. My bean would not wake up for anything to more for the US. I had to push on my belly for like 5 minutes to get bean to wake up. I have a really good US pic so ill have to see if I can get it on Photobucket. I wont hear anything back till prob this timenext week. I hope everyone is good.

Gecko im glad your doing better what a scary weekend. And Weezie im glad your other baby is doing great. Im sure the hormones are making your crazy im like that to right now but more so at work i dont like anyone or anything. Hopefully it will level out and we can feel better!!!

quick note-
Rio- don't worry- i am sure everything will be wonderful i don't understand how they come up with increased risk if the number is a lower percentage? (1 in 171 to start then 1 in 193?)
if you really look at it- there is like a 99% chance of a perfect baby according to their results-
i know it's tough, but everything will be ok

hi everyone- really tired - more tomorrow

Quick update: I went to my OB today and he was awesome. He said that he really didn't see a reason to be concerned right now. He said my papp-a levels were low but not that low where I should be concerned about fetal development. He said that with constant u/s to monitor and more testing that everything should be fine, he recommended u/s weekly after 28 weeks. He said we would also monitor for pre-eclampsia. He is ordering an expanded AFP at 16 weeks, then at 19 weeks we have a level 2 ultrasound to look for Down markers, he said that after the AFP results and u/s we can elect to do an amnio. I feel much better today and he listened to the HB. He said evverything looks so great with the baby that I shouldn't be concerned and that the risk is still very small. He was very supportive and said that every pregnancy is special but this one is even more speciaal because we worked so hard to get here with IVF. He also said not to worry about my two cysts, they are from two follicles and should go away (left ovary).

Thank you so much for all of your support!

I am exhausted with a little m/s so I will do personals tomorrow!

Wow lots of news happening! Wishing you all the best! I am on spring break with work yet finals week with school. Yesterday was my last final! EVER (well at least till masters!) woohoo!

Loopie: They said I can opt out of the genetic tests. It is just blood work though...nothing invasive. I am still not 100% sure I want it done. The doc said just cause I did IVF and ICSI there is an increased risk and is giving me the option.

What are your opinions on getting this done just cause I had IVF? I mean there are no genetic disorders in either of our families...
