Thanks for answering my last questions about LH. I wanted to know the difference between these two protocols in terms of the medications and the effects they have.
Last cycle I was on bcp, lupron, follistym and menopur and finally pio shots. The doc says I had a progesterone surge that shouldn't have occured.
This cycle I am taking bcp, follistym and gonal f and finally pio shots.
Any thoughts???
Thanks so much- kimbers
Progesterone surge? That might have two meaning I can think of.
If your pituitary managed an LH surge, even while on the Lupron, that will induce ovulation and the spent follicles will quickly start releasing progesterone.
Another possibility is that your lead follicle(s) started releasing progesterone before you were triggered. This is called "premature luteinization" and is pretty common. The issue with it is that the progesterone can get your endometrium maturing too soon relative to embryo development. But it's a gradual rise, and not usually called a "surge".
I bet there is one more medication you have not listed. Something to suppress your pituitary while you stim. Perhaps Ganirelix or Cetrotide? These are often started about halfway through stimulation and quickly act to prevent an LH surge.
