Ghost a Question

Post by kimbers312 »

Hi Ghost,

Thanks for answering my last questions about LH. I wanted to know the difference between these two protocols in terms of the medications and the effects they have.

Last cycle I was on bcp, lupron, follistym and menopur and finally pio shots. The doc says I had a progesterone surge that shouldn't have occured.

This cycle I am taking bcp, follistym and gonal f and finally pio shots.

Any thoughts???

Thanks so much- kimbers

Progesterone surge? That might have two meaning I can think of.

If your pituitary managed an LH surge, even while on the Lupron, that will induce ovulation and the spent follicles will quickly start releasing progesterone.

Another possibility is that your lead follicle(s) started releasing progesterone before you were triggered. This is called "premature luteinization" and is pretty common. The issue with it is that the progesterone can get your endometrium maturing too soon relative to embryo development. But it's a gradual rise, and not usually called a "surge".

I bet there is one more medication you have not listed. Something to suppress your pituitary while you stim. Perhaps Ganirelix or Cetrotide? These are often started about halfway through stimulation and quickly act to prevent an LH surge.

That's Ganirelix (ganirelix acetate). It serves the same role as your Lupron did, but it works almost immediately, rather than taking weeks like Lupron.

Ghost ~ I have a quick question. I'm currently in the process of going thru my first IVF. I have been on Menopur from 28th march till now.

Today I noticed white sticky discharge is that normal? or do I need to be worrying about if I ovulated??

Starting tonight I will be doing Menopur and Ganirelix shots together and go for my ultrasound on April 4th.

Any advise is helpful.

Thanks

Sameera

I don't have a clue on that one. I'm just a researcher who studies IVF methods. Maybe someone else here can help you out. You should also ask your clinic.

Thanks Ghost~ I actually called my RE and he told me it was normal and not to worry about anything. I go for my ultrasound tomorrow so I guess I will find out then if everything is good.

Thanks for your help though!
