Twins, Dec 2008

Post by sarahalf »

Are there any other moms out there expecting twins this year?
I am 9 weeks and would love to be able to chat it up with other moms that have endless questions.
I have two children (concieved "naturally"??!!) then had my tubes tied due to an etopic pregnancy. We had one successful IVF last year, although it ended in a second trimester miscarriage ( a sweet littly boy at 23 weeks).
This is our second attempt at IVF. We did a day 3 transfer, put three in...and here we are cautiously optimistic with twins.
I love reading the other twin boards and thought it would be fun to try a new one!

Hi Sara
I am expecting twins in late November, this is my first pregnancy after lots of trying, we have had 3 ivf treatments. This last go was very low key, I only have one ovary, it didn't really respond they only got 2 follies, both fertilized and they popped them both in after only 2 days. Thrilling to see twins then . I had my 12 wk nuchal scan today and it feels a lot more real, although your experience helps keep it all in perspective.
The radiographer thinks I have two boys, still very early days so it was a bit of a guess on her part but something to work from.

How are you feeling? Are you keeping well?
I haven't been too sick although I am astonished at how much I am showing already - I have told my boss but will have tell the rest of the office next week as it is becoming far too obvious under my jumper.

Any advice gratefully received... I cant imagine actual babies at the moment - I feel as though I am just having a pregnancy...

Congratulations to both of you! What a great Holiday gift! Please come join us on Double Trouble. There are new moms, moms w/ older twins, and pg moms. The info from the experienced moms was better than any book I could have purchased.

We look forward to seeing both of you and again, CONGRATS!!!!!

Sarah,
Congrats! How did your 12 week test go?My Dr prepared me that it could take a long time with twins...
How exciting you already think you know it is two boys!!! I really cant wait to find out. It is not as bad as waiting for the first u/s but right up there. This is such a game of patience.
How are you feeling? I think I might already be popping out of my clothes, as well. Yikes. Although that is what we are supposed to be doing...gaining 20 mbs by 24 weeks. Wow. Have you bought Dr Barbara Lukes book yet? It is a great resource for twin preg.
Kimberly, Thank you so much for the advice. I love the Double Trouble thread and have been reading way back to the beginning. The advice is amazing and reading about all of your journeys is the best!

I dont know what book you mean - I haven't had any reading suggestions but I will do a search on Amazon tonight and order it. My OB gave me a free book they give seem to give every pregnant woman but apart from the really bad 1980's photos, that just creeped me out , it gave zero to zip information on twins.

I am now 14 weeks and am feeling quite a stretch on my tummy, it is very intimidating to be so obvious so early, I just think yikes I am going to be massive by the end of this.

My nuchal went really well, the odds came down considerably based on the scan compared to how they were for my age. Both beans seemed to be pretty close in size. I am visiting my OB tomorrow so he can go through the results closely with me but with every small milestone and with a bit more info I feel my confidence growing. I have just told work (they all guessed due to my manic appetitie) and they were so lovely about it - so I feel much more relaxed, I can walk around without trying to hold my stomach in and not have to worry about who knows and who doesnt!!!!

When are you due for your nuchal?

Sarah,
I am so happy to hear your testing went well. Did they further confirm two little boys?! So adorable. I have a friend in my town that has twin boys (they are almost four now) and they are great little guys. They play so well together and have no problem sharing, since they have ALWAYS had to share!
I do my nuchal next week. They told me with twins that they like to do it at 13 weeks so you can really see them both well. I am always happy to get another little test and milestone accomplished. I am feeling like all my clothes are tight and nothing fits right. I am starting to show, but in my mind I just look chubbier than usual. I hope your appt goes well tomorrow~! I am interested to hear what your Dr says. Isnt it cool to have u/s around now? They change so much!!
Mally, Congratulations and how exciting. I know the wait to find out is so difficult. It helps so much to read the different boards. I will be sending you great thoughts! When is your preg test? Must be soon!

I can't wait to hear how your nuchal goes, it is so nice spending a good 30 minutes examining the babies in detail, it helped me relax seeing not just the heartbeat but watching them move around and just hang. A big boost of confidence about this whole pregnancy thing.

My radiographer guessed they were both boys, but it is a big call at such an early stage and she said it could just as easily being protuding girl bits not properly developed.

My appointment with my Dr was funny, we Kiwis are very laid back - and he was positively horizontal.... nothing happened, he just said it was great and as good as I could hope, gave me a quick US (I insist on checking the heartbeats) and set up another scan for 18wks.... he is super experienced with high risk pregnancyies and I trust him implicitly - it made me chuckle I just thought there would be more.

I think after all the intensity and stress of IVF where every meeting chokes you up for some reason, or requires lots of meds and jabs these appointments are positively boring. Not that I am complaining but it is weird being back in the normal and healthy part of the world.

Anyway we are off to Australia for the weekend, a bit of shopping and relaxation. I hope I can find some decent maternity clothes, after trying to disguise the bump for the last coupe of weeks I am sick of looking like a blob.

Let me know how you go with the nuchal - thinking of you, and good luck with the pant zippers over the next week!

Hi gals~!
Sorry I have been out of touch but checking in to see how the twin moms are doing and if there is anyone else that would like to join, encourage them to do so!
I am now 14 weeks preg with twins. It is starting to sink in that this is really happening. Its so exciting. I was scared to attach myself to the idea, but with the weekly ultrasound monitoring, I am starting to get my mind around it.
I have to see a high risk specialist in Denver next week to place a cerclage due to a possible incompetent cervix. I am not so worried about the procedure bc I think it will give me great piece of mind that I wont go into pre term labor.
Has anyone found out the sex of their babies yet? I am excited to find out...I really have no guesses!
Hope to hear from you all!

Hi

Sameera,
Hello and congratulations!
I know getting to the twelve week mark feels so good and you are almost there!
I think you feel the babies move alot sooner, at least I did. I have started to feel flutters (14 weeks) which I know I did not recognize in my first pregnancy until later.
I am a little nervous to see what it feels like to have two little babies kicking around in there.
Are you going to find out boys/girls? When is your next appt?
Good luck and welcome~

Sarah - thanks for the warm welcome!

Just like you I wanna know and feel how twins move around and kicks.. I think it will be so cool - until they kick you in your RIBS and you are in pain LOL

Yes, I am definitely gonna find out if it's a boy/girl - I wish they could tell me on my next appt but I doubt they can..

My next appt is scheduled for July 3rd - I'll be 14 weeks by then.

Are you gonna find out if it's a boy/girl?? and is your belly sticking out a lot more now??

Mine is sticking out more but not like crazy more.. I'm assuming in next couple weeks it may..

Thanks again for the congratuations and welcome!

Sameera,
I am hoping we can find out this week (I have an u/s on Wed) or next week (I go to the specialist for high resolution u/s) what we are having. I am anxious to know so I can start to get my mind around it. I am still kind of in shock and disbelief. My kids are 4 and 6 and they are very excited...and my husband is so excited too. I am excited but still kind of wondering how this is all going to go! And I cant believe I am going to have FOUR kids!
My belly just popped out this last weekend (13 weeks 5 days). I look preg now. Which is kind of scary being this early on. I am trying to imagine...October!
What is your due date? We are due Dec 15 but my Dr told me to shoot for 36 weeks or Nov 16. It seems do-able?!
Talk soon!
Sara
Ps Do you think you will have yoru babies in one crib in the beginning? I always had my babies in bed but I dont see how that is possible with two?! Maybe a co-sleeper...but do they hold two babies?

Sara - My OB she does the 3D ultrasound so it's very clear and nice.. all the u/s she has done on me have been on 3D's!!

Like you I'm still shocked and don't know how i'm gonna handle 3 kids!!

My daughter and hubby both are really excited too! my lil girl tries to talk to the babies, hug them and kiss them everyday - it's so darn sweet!!

belly is sticking out especially after i'm done eating but yeah ppl can definitely tell i am preggo!!

I'm sure it's gonna keep getting bigger and bigger..

My due date Dec 20th I believe but she said it could be in November so be prepared!! so who knows really - I guess they will come out either in Novemeber or December!

yes, I do plan to keep the babies in crib for now and then get another crib.. you could get those ' Wedges" in between so they don't roll over each other or smother each other..

Depends on what crib you have - with my first child we got a huge crib so i think it's duable to have two babies in it but maybe when they turn 3-6months then seperate them.

Hello ladies! I have been reading up on you girls and am very excited for each of you. I too am prego with twins! Twin boys to be exact. It is such an exciting journey! I did not feel my little ones move until about 21 weeks...this is my first pregnancy, so I may have missed the first flutters. Now I feel them all the time! It is kind of funny. They each have their own schedule, they are rarely moving around at the same time, except for in the mornings and in the evenings when I am lying in the bed! Then when they get going, it makes my belly lurch forward! It can get a little comical! I started out growing my clothes at around 12 weeks...it was kind of like the bump just popped out over night! If you haven't already, try the belly/bella bands. They work for a while, so you can continue to wear to your regular pants. It will save you a little $ at first, so you don't have to rush out and buy maternity clothes.

I thought that since I started showing so early I would be HUGE by this point in time, however, I am 31 weeks and have only gained 21 lbs. My doc is not at all concerned. He told me the important thing is that the babies are growing, and they are. They have been a little ahead of schedule as far as weight and length at each appointment. I am only telling you this because it can frustrating or scary either way when you are carrying twins. People will tell you things like....."you don't look like you are carrying twins, you are too small", or "wow! You are huge, are you sure there are only 2 babies in there!" I have heard all kinds of stories. Just remember to trust in your docotor and ignore all of the comments from the streets!!!

Good luck to everyone!

Marybeth
