hi mommas- hope everyone is feeling good-

corny, i hope you are taking it easy and recovering from surgery- did Discovery actually end up filming the procedure? any word on what you're to do now?
and to all the bedrest gals, i hope your Dhs are taking care of you and feeding you way too many sweets!

jomae- how's it going downunder?

rio- how's your pup- i know i'd be gutted if anything happened to our 4legged baby- hope she'll be ok. no response from my PM to mia- that was over 10 days ago now- so sad

sug- dh's are going through their own weirdness- i am sure he is over the moon about the girls and you, but may be a bit freaked out that time is passing so quickly- and they'll be here soon! don't focus on what he's not doing right now (he'll want to feel them kick for sure) focus on what he is doing- working hard, studying- etc trying to get stuff done so that when they arrive, he'll be both physically and mentally as ready as he can be. sometimes dh and i go all day without thinking about the bean (verbally, that is..) and that's ok with me- i mean soon it won't be just us ( it has been a 2person team for 14 years) so we're enjoying it all and taking little peskiness in stride.

I've been crazy busy- getting ready to put down the floor! yippee- I bought reclaimed broad plank oak from a cool architectural salvage place that we'll begin installing in the next week- it needs work, but should be beautiful, and the fact that we didn't chop down any trees to get it is a bonus!!! - even if it's kind of funky- it will still be about a million times better than the burnt subfloor we've had weeeeee!
bean's been kicking- tummy's been upset (though not nearly as bad as last weekend)

I'm starting to deal with the registry etc- tough, though to find 1 place that has everything we like and need.grrrr!

ok- so is anyone else planning on using cloth diapers? I had no idea that there are sooo many different varieties from which to choose- zowie! thank goodness for the web....

alright- best to all any big hugs going out to all of you!

Suga, I think Loopie's right. He's probably excited just in his own way. Must be hard to be the guy in all this. Of course, when I see my DH enjoying a glass of wine or going for a long run I don't feel tooooo sorry for him  But, they don't get some of the little joys that we mommies get.

I can relate a bit, though. I got really annoyed with DH when we were registering at Babies R Us last weekend. For the first 20 minutes or so he was excited (mostly b/c he liked playing w/the scanner  ) But after that he was clearly bored and kept plopping into the gliders whenever one was near. I snapped at him that he needed to participate and help w/decisions and he perked back up.

Sorry to all the ladies w/sick doggies. Losing a pet or watching them get old can be so hard. When my parents lost their last dog it was heartbreaking. She was young but got sick and they actually slept on the floor w/her at the end. So sad. Sorry to hear that some of you are going through that.

Thanks ladies for your support. I finally just broke down and cried and of course he was there to listen (he is a great husband after all) and he did just explain to me he is stressed because it is finals week for him, and work, etc. But he will work on not taking it out on me so much. So, I feel better now. I am glad today is his last final....well until next summer session starts!

I had my 24 week check up yesterday and everything looked great! The girls are growing and even kicked the doctor which was cute. She did a little happy dance that I finally gained some weight since now is the critical time when they are building up their fat storage for birth. She said I was still doing too much if I was having lots of braxton hicks so I have to take it easier. But is is scary to think I only have 10-12 weeks left! She said she usually sees most moms deliver between 35-37 weeks so that is not that far away!!! YIKES!

I got lots of hand me down clothes from a friend who had a girl and am washing them now...I think I will be covered until they are at least a year and a half which is nice. Plus, grandma keeps sending tons of stuff!!!

Loopie: I am in no way using cloth diapers....way too hard. But, if you can do it, MORE power to you!!! They are great for the environment! I had a friend who used cloth (I will have to ask her what brand) but she gave up after awhile because of how much more work it was...

Suga - I am glad you got things resolved with DH, he seems like a hard worker and a wonderful DH who is quite stressed and working hard. Also great to hear that the twins are doing great!
Mellie - Registering is quite overwhelming! I still can't find a decente glider that is inexpensive and still looking for a crib that's convertible and has a slide down side...
loopie - yeay for new floors! we just put in cork flooring :) we are also trying to be green! I read in a couple of places that because of all the hot water you use on cloth diapers that you end up as earth unfriendly as disposable, I admire you for doing cloth, I could not do it.

Rio - I am soooo sorry to hear about your dog. I know just what you are going through. When my little dog was sick, I was beside myself. they become like children, don't they? I still grieve for my little one. I hope yours gets better.

Sugabeanzs - How did your appointment go? Did they remove the rest of the mole? I hope you are feeling ok. I am sorry you are having issues with your DH being responsive, but am glad that you were able to talk about it. I think the guys deal with this whole pregnancy thing very differently. They don't have to go through what we do and only get to watch us change. It probably doesn't feel very real to them at all.

loopie - Hooray for fixing up the nursery! I hope your floor is installed soon and that it looks nice. We had painters out today to paint the nursery, the master bedroom and two bathrooms. They look really good, but for now I am restricted to sleeping on the couch and have no bathrooms (except for the yucky one in the garage) The paint fumes are strong so I am trying to stay as far away as possible. It will be done soon though. One more day of painting, then I can get DH to set up the crib and we can start filling the nursery. We are planning to use cloth diapers but have no idea what exactly to order. I think I just need to all the service we chose and talk to them. I think I will wait until closer to my due date though. I like the convenience of the disposable diapers, but want to do a little for the environment. I wonder which is actually better for the baby though?

Mellie - I had to laugh when I read your post! My DH was clearly bored with the registering too, except for the fun with the scanner. I tried to do as much as possible and then came home and continued to refine out list via the internet. It was pretty easy.

I am doing ok. I have to do my 3hr glucose test again tomorrow. I did it at week 6 and was negative. I am really hoping it doesn't come back positive this time either, but the doctors say my age isn't on my side. I have my next ob appt on Monday so I will find out then if it is positive and what I will have to do.

It has been really HOT here for the last few days and I feel really yucky. I am trying to drink lots of fluid but am really foggy and have a headache. The heat wave should break by Sunday so I only have one more day to go. Oh for a breeze......

Hope you are all doing well.

Gecko/Sugar/Loopie/Mellie - Thanks for the support, it is tough to watch your baby get older like that. THe thing is his spirit is still 110% but his back can't keep up and he needs extra care and attention. Well, call me crazy but we got a puppy today, it was actually planned from a few months ago, before he was even born. We wanted to get a puppy to add to our family before our eldest passed (he could never be replaced) and for the pup to be potty trained before the baby comes. We also have a 3 yo female that will go insane the day my eldest is not here. He is just adorable and the fun part is that our 2 dogs are getting extra attention because the pup is here. Kinda crazy and I doubt we will sleep tonight! And go figure it is 90 something degrees here where the wheater never goes beyond 65 except for 5 days a year!

What kind of cribs did you girls get?

rio- i'm having puppy cravings, too! we've only ever adopted an adult, but check out these cutiepies! It's puppy porn!! http://www.magdrl.org/availabledogs.htm Deuce, Wedgie, and their sibs are soo freaking adorable, but to be honest, we need to wait- besides, 2 danes and a baby in our car may not work!
what kind did you get???

I have heard the water vs waste on diaper thing, but to be honest, I prefer the use of water to the idea that my kid's poop will be wrapped up in a disposable diaper for 500 years!

gecko- no nursery fixing over here- it's just getting a crib in it and dh and i are going to make a mobile- hopefully not too heavy (we are steel sculptors after all!) the floor will cover the burned 1904 subfloor we've been living on for 3 years now! should be laid by next weekend, and then refinishing and sanding starts...going to my folks when that happens -why do you do the glucose test again??? is that normal? are you at risk?

mellie- i'm impressed that you got him to the store! i don't even think dh will go with me to register, i am like a marathon shopper, so he'd get tuckered out before we did anything- i've done research and reconnaissance on line and show him what i find of note - seems to keep the peskiness down to a minimum (for now!!)

keep cool and have a great weekend -
sassy- how are you doing? -trips ok?

oh- and gecko- there are low and no VOC paints that do not offgas- which is way safer for you and the bean - they are not that much more expensive( I think)

please be safe about the painting- sorry you've got to use the crummy WC -

again- keep cool

Question ladies

Last night I was having some aches and pains and just thought it was built up gas. Then I went to the bathroom and a mucus (size of a dime) came out of me. It was clear and really stretchy but that was all I noticed of it. I was a little wetter than normal down there yesterday but I know this can be normal. I was up and about a lot yesterday so I thought all the pain and such was from that...I still am not comfortable today but not like yesterday...now I am having a tugging sensation in my vagainal area and still the slight pressure. Any ideas on this? I will call my doctor on Monday to see...I counted the contractions and did not have more than 4 an hour but still was just wondering. It is way too early for these girls!

Kildean, so sorry you had to get the cerclage and are now on bedrest. It stinks, but just remember it's for a great cause.

Sug - if I were you I would call the on-call doc to check. I used to feel bad about calling on weekends or after hours, but the fact of the matter is they work for you, and you can never be too sure. And honestly when I do have to call, they never seem to mind. Better to be safe than sorry. By the way...how the heck did you know that you were having contractions? I am so scared that I won't recognize them because every little twinge I have I blame on gas.

Rio - sorry about your dog. We've seen many come and sadly go over the years. I know how hard it is when they get sick because they truely are one of the family. What kind of puppy did you get?

Loopie - I admire you for wanting to do the cloth diapers. I just don't have it in me. My BFF has only used cloth for both her kids. I know she gets them from some website and loves them. I'll have to find out what she uses and I'll let you know. And yes, our surgery was filmed. Apparently it's a documentary they've been working on for 6 months or so. I don't know if our footage will make it in or not, but it was actually Lionsgate films that did the taping, for both Discovery and a possible movie. We will see. They are supposed to send me a copy of the footage. I can't wait to see it!

Gecko - is DH on the front lines up there with the fires? It's been super hot down here. Even here at the beach it's in the high 80s, and we don't have AC. It's tough staying cool, but we've got fans going everywhere.

I'm jealous of all of you who are going out to register. I never made it to B-R-Us before the bedrest, so I will have to do everything online. I may pick out a few things and have DH go check them out for quality and stuff. I like to see and touch before I buy, which clearly isn't going to happen now. As for the nursery, we probably won't set up the cribs until the end of summer. We have to give up the guest room for the babies and in the summer we usually have a lot of guests (or should I say drunk party people looking for a place to crash after playing at the beach all day). As a gift to the babies, my Dad graciously offered to buy our nursery furniture for us, so we already purchased 2 cribs, 2 mattresses and a changing table. They are all in the garage just waiting to be set up. Here's the ones we got...

http://www.munirefurniture.com/essex_01.htm

We didn't get a dresser or anything because the room is small and there is already a dresser in the closet.

As for the babies, at last check they were doing AWESOME. The surgeon called and had talked to the peri and said the results so far are way above his expectations. Yay! I did have to make another trip to the ER last night. I had a couple of episodes of not being able to breathe. It was probably more scary than anything else (because I was home alone), but they couldn't find the cause. They didn't bother to check on the babies, so that of course has me a little worried, but our next u/s is this Monday. I still feel like I don't feel them moving at all, and I will be 20 weeks on Monday, so either I feel them and don't realize it, or they just aren't kicking me hard enough. I am sure the stress and anxiety will decrease once I know I am feeling them.

Well, I guess I've rambled on long enough. In all my boredom yesterday I decided to create a blog. I'll post the link if you feel like checking it out, although so far my only post is my pregnancy story, which you all know WAY too well. But, if you're bored...here it is...

sugabeanz - I would call your doctor today and not wait until Monday. It is better to be safe and have yourself checked out. It is probably nothing, but you will probably feel better if you talk to a doctor or nurse. I think that overall twins put more stress on your body. Make sure to rest a lot today and tomorrow too. Keep us posted.

loopie - I hired professional painters to do the painting and am not sure what kind of paint they used. They are all done today and the rooms are airing out. The fumes did give me a headache yesterday so I slept far away from the rooms painted. I will do the same tonight unless the smell is gone from our bedroom. Thanks for the paint tips though. As for the glucose screening - yes I am of higher risk because of my age. I was tested early and now did the rescreening. I hope it is ok. I would like to avoid the GD diet if possible and don't really want to take insulin. Of course I will do whatever is necessary for the bean to be healthy though.

rio - Post a picture of your new puppy! I know when I got my puppy last month it really took the sting out of losing my elder dog. The puppy is so much fun - although he takes a lot of work since he chews EVERYTHING and is nowhere near house trained!

It is REALLY hot here today. While driving home from my glucose testing, I noticed that it was 101 and that was at 12:30. I am sure it will be hotter by 4pm. Yuck! I am trying to stay cool and drink lots of water. I am hoping for some fog soon......

Corny: the contractions for me my whole belly gets tight and kinda can feel really uncomfortable at times. You will be able to tell! Also, at 20 weeks I was still not feeling the girls very well so I would not worry. I am supper excited that they are doing so well!!!!

Well, I passed more of the mucus and had a few more contractions so went to the triage. The babies look great but they did a test (Felal Fibronectin) and it came back positive which means I have a 30% chance of going into labor in the next week but she checked my cervix and it was still 3 and closed so she is not too worried. They did give me a round of steroids just in case and I have to go back tomorrow to get the follow up shot. So, in reality we just have to pray we can keep them in there until at least 32-34 weeks! I read up a little bit on it and if the test comes back positive most people do not last longer than 35 weeks....so lets just hope we can keep them in there until 34 weeks!!! I have to go to the doctor on Monday/Tuesday to see my reg OB. The nurse said that if it had been other doctors in the practice they probably would have kept me there for observation so she wants me to talk to my OB to see what he has to say. But back to bed rest for me! Woohoo??

Suga - I am glad you got everything checked out, so sorry you have to go on bedrest again :( I am praying that your girls will stay put there until they are nice and ready!
Gecko - staying cool? We are not used to this weather so we have every fan going also, is your DH battling the fires by Santa Cruz? We are still painting rooms and Sherwin Williams has a great line of No VOC paints, we used a line called Harmony, doesn't even smell. How old is your puppy? If you can, also post pics of your little pup!
Corny- visited your blog, you and DH could not possibly be any cuter! Great to hear that your girls are doing great! GOrgeous cribs! I am sure you will feel your girls soon, in the beginning it is so slight that you might completely miss it.
Loopie- Awwwww I went to that site and the puppies are just adorable! How can you resist   We decided not to adopt because we could not find any German Shepherd pups at the shelters only older dogs. If it was just DH and I we would adopt but with the baby coming, I want to make sure I know the background of the puppy. Unfortunately a lot of people neglect and mistreat German Shepherds and if not raised right, they can become aggressive, we did not want to take chances with the baby. But it does break my heart to see all those gorgeous faces, I frequently look at the shepherd rescues and I always end up crying, I donate money for their rescue even though it is not the same, eventually I would like to be a foster home to help them out. Now I feel guilty our baby's pooh will last so long! in a diaper out there! Again, I think you are very brave, very cool! I also think it is so awesome you and DH are sculptors, do you have a site or can you post pics of the sculptures?

Well I got a taste of sleep deprivation last night, puppy cried some and when he didn't cry, DH snored super loud! Couldn't wear my ear plugs cause I wanted to keep alert for pup, Yickes I don't do well with little sleep, already had a couple of crying episodes today. I was trying to help my older dog up and down and it hurt so I got bummed I can't help him much and poor guy struggles, breaks my heart. He is getting extra attention and tolerates the pup.

Have you girls had any pain around your pelvic bone? I feel like someone kicked me there, doesn't hurt all the time but only when I move a certain way or pick up something.

I posted puppy pics on photobucket :)

Wow- Corny- wonderful blog- it actually inspired me to start one- nothing there, yet, but I hope to begin sharing soon, and will post the link when i have something. you two are simply lovely!

rio- i didn't mean to stress you out over the poo thing, and i absolutely respect everyone's decisions in diapering- who knows, we are starting out with the cloth, but i may not be able to keep up. I know how it can be with adopting pets - and with a baby coming, you want to be sure it will be a match. i just can't resist taking a peek at them.

so for my bedrest gals, do you really need to stay in bed, or just lounge around the house? no getting up to make meals? holy crap! I have seen some bedrest "exercises" listed somewhere that keep your muscles from weakening -hmmmm where was that?

sug-you need to take it easy- i'm glad you went to the ER, but those girls need to stay put!!! i really feel for you- is there anything medically that they can do to control these contractions etc? is your family nearby?

just got a new Nikon D80, so i promise to start taking photos of everything and get a few up on the photobucket. I love this camera! Dh sold a sculpture, so we had a little $$ to spare :D

well up and at-'em this morning- got to get everything moved today.

super healthy karma coming out to mommas, poppas, and babies. we're gettin' close!

Well, today I have just felt like crap. Can not get untired and just feeling weird. I have slept almost all day today. But here is the thing, I have this odd feeling that these babies are not staying in me for much longer....why? I dunno. I think it is weird I have this feeling as well. I do not have a doc appt. till next week and I will bring that up then but I am still a little weirded out that the doctors do not think there is anything wrong wrong. I mean, it is their job and I am sure they are right but in my mind I just feel like something is going on because my cervix just hurts and there is tons of pressure down there. So, who knows.

Plus, yesterday they found protein in the urine and my BP was really high which is scary yet the doctor said nothing about it. So who knows. I think I will call tomorrow to get my real appt. moved up with my regular OB.

Anywho, I am off back to bed!
