Hello all,
We had a great initial meeting with the pediatrician, and I see no reason to 'interview' any others. He is so kind and a very good listener. He did not charge for the meeting, and even gave us his private cell number which he said is open 24/7. He also recommended a good 'mohel' (one who performs circumcision), said that's who he'd use if he had a son now. He answered all of my questions and didn't make me feel stupid. After meeting with him, we went to a big new mall which just opened right near where we're moving. It was good for me to get out a little (to someplace that's NOT a high risk clinic).

So I've been thinking about the whole L/D. What would be so bad to let nature take its course, and let him come when he's gonna come? Okay, it's more to do with convenience. I'm just thinking if we could move and I 'hold out' for about a week in the new place before baby arrives, that would give me so much time to set up! Of course, it's pretty much out of my control if he comes early (naturally). But if he comes a bit later, is it sooo bad for me to try to deliver a 9 pounder? It's definitely been done before. We shall seeee.

Here's a list of things I'm taking to hospital: (If you see anything I left off that is vital, pleeease feel free to 'add it on').

All pertinent medical info documentation (GD stuff, etc.), birthing plan, soft toilet paper, robe, comfy clothing, outfit for baby to go home in, car seat, nursing pads, disposable undies, makeup/perfume, deodorant, underwear, tissues, outfit for me to go home in, slippers, reading material, big towel, socks, bottled water and straws, toothbrush/toothpaste, ?????

Rebecca,
Hope all is well with your amniotic fluid situation. How are you feeling? When's your next appointment? I have appointments on Wed. with the high risk doc, and on Thurs. with my regular ob. I really want to know what my regular ob has to say about delivery options. I trust him the most and respect his opinion. What are you thinking about all this? I was laughing reading about your 'dishes in the sink, bag not packed, etc.' I packed most of my bag, and whatever I still need for now I put in a plastic bag which can be added at the last minute. However I also need to think of the BIGGER packing up of my apartment. I better put all my jewelry in a safe place, start packing it in little boxes, and taking it with me in case I am not here on moving day. There's so much to consider, I hope my stuff doesn't go lost. Also, I'm sure I left important stuff off my hospital list, hence the above list, and my request to add on :). Anyway, I hope you're feeling better about everything, I'm sure it will all go smoothly in the end.

Tina,
I am glad you enjoyed your baby class, it sounds like they reviewed a lot of important info. I am so sorry to hear about your mom getting sick in the restaurant. I will pray for her to get stronger. I can't imagine what you go through with that. You're a strong girl, and I think it's wonderful how you and dh take care of her the way you do, 9 months pregnant no less! I know what you mean about making lists of the 'crap' that still needs to get done. I feel like I'm making lists all day, but the challenge is tying up all the loose ends before we go to the hospital. At some point, I just gotta let it go, and whatever happens, happens.

Well, I will try to doze off now (it's about 2.30am here now). Night night!

Hello everyone,

It's so hot and humid here. It's been a tough day with lots of abdominal pain (from my intestinal problems). Not the best day, sigh. :( I don't know how all of you are standing the heat, esp. those who live in hotter climates than I, like Texas & Israel!

Rebecca - Looks like the time is drawing near, huh? Like everyone else, I can so relate to your anxieties. It seems like no matter what I do to prepare, I wake up the next day and have to add 10 more things to my list. I walk around the house and all I see is mess after mess after mess, and I get myself all worked up into a tizzy over it. Is your fluid getting checked again soon? I am not having any probs with my dog...that said, he causes problems regularly anyway, LOL. He's a rambunctious terrier/poodle mix, so he's similar in activity level to my toddler. :) I have heard that dogs and cats can act weird before the baby comes.

Shari - Glad your pedi visit went so well. He sounds like such a nice guy, giving you his cell # and everything. For your L&D list, I was thinking about things like any special juices/beverages you might want, music, magazines, labor/exercise ball, massagers, etc. My DP is bringing a bag for herself of food and snacks. Trust me, the labor coach gets starving and exhausted...been there done that. When DP was in labor I was SO hungry and there was no food available (except for the disgusting hospital food, & I didn't want to leave the room to get it). I'm bringing my iPod too, b/c music really helps me to relax. I don't think it's unrealistic at all to deliver a 9-lber. My mother's first baby was over 9 lbs, and it went fine. A friend of mine at work delivered (vaginally) a 10-lber about 3 mos ago, too, and they are both fine. And my cousin delivered a 9-lber.

Karen - Thanks for the info on the stretch marks. Some days I am scared about them and then some days I feel more accepting of whatever happens. I am sure my skin doesn't give a crap what I think, though, LOL. I don't do well with body image issues. In my younger years I had an eating disorder, and I still struggle with my body image and appearance. That has been an additional emotional strain for me with this pregnancy, since as you all know it's not easy to watch the body changes that occur with pregnancy. I continue to work on acceptance...

Tina - I feel for you about your mother and your financial worries. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you are able to close your sales before Noah arrives. I would be a nervous wreck too if I were under that pressure & working on commission. We are really coming down to the wire here, and it's nerve wracking. I hope your mother feels better soon. When it rains it pours. On a brighter note, I love your nursery too. It looks great.

baby2008 - I too am not sure what to tell you since I am carrying one child. I guess, though, if I were in your position and my OB told me it would be a viable option to deliver the two vaginally, I would try it. Plenty of twins are delivered that way (in fact a friend of mine delivered her two boys that way 10 mos ago). You would run the risk of having one vaginally and one by C-section, which would obviously be difficult to recover from. Ask your OB what he would recommend if it were his daughter or wife. Good luck with your decision.

The fatigue is so bad lately...here I am at 38 weeks wondering how on earth I will stand this next week or the following week, or, God forbid, the week after that if I go past my due date. Thank God for the support of all of you, b/c it really helps get me though. Isn't it going to be great when we can all post pics of our babies on photobucket?!?! :) :) :)

Doggoneit!

I have a really bad cold. My sinuses are congested. I can't smell anything. My head pounds and my hearing isn't that good. I was doing so well and then. I hope I can whack this thing in a few days or sooner. Dr. said I could take Tylenol Cold but it doesn't work for me. What I need is a decongestant!

I have another NST and visit with the OB/GYN tomorrow. I'll report back after then.

Seltzer,
Sorry you're not feeling so well. I know what you mean about the heat. I don't do well in the heat when not pregnant, but right now it's a killer! I speak to my mom in NYC every day, and she's reporting on the crazy heat wave you northeasterners are experiencing now. It's probably not all that much hotter where I am according to her reports. Thanks for your suggestions of what to bring to the hospital, especially the snacks and the music. The thera-ball, massage stuff, etc., are all provided for in the hospital.

Rebecca,
I forgot to mention, regarding your dog acting all weird. I don't have a pet, but I remember a few years back right after my friend had her baby, her dog went bonkers. This was the mildest dog, never jumped on anyone, never heard a peep out of her. Then once my friend gave birth, any time I came to visit, the dog would bark and even start nipping at me. Not sure what the behavior means (as I am no dog expert). All I could say is it's not the first time I've heard of change in doggy behavior with the birth (or impending birth?) of a baby. After a while the dog settled back to normal.

Karen,
You poor thing! I hope you feel better really soon.

Rest well and stay comfortable.

Well, I am happy to say the air conditioning unit has been fixed!!! Last night sucked sleeping in the other bed and I was so tired today that work made me crazy. Hopefully I can sleep better tonight. I feel as big as a moose right now and I think I am going to throw away the scale. I hate that thing. I have all these things to do and yet they involve me leaving the house and it is just SO HOT!

Karen - So sorry you are sick - that sucks! Just what you needed, huh? I really hope you feel better soon. I am really sorry.

Shari - If I were you, I would say "screw it" and just let nature take its course. I know a woman who delivered a baby naturally at 11 pounds and 6 ounces (he came too quickly for an epidural!!). Besides - you never know how big he really is since they are so often wrong! It just seems like if you can wait then you could get into your new place and get somewhat settled...saying of course that he doesn't just go ahead and come out now! I keep wondering how big Noah is now because his kicks are very painful for me at this point. I feel like he has just stretched the heck out of my stomach and has no room left. I am going to force myself to go out walking this evening and perhaps that will make me feel better. Who knows... Do your son's kicks hurt??

Seltzer - Sorry the intestinal problems are acting up again. For me, it is still the darn back pain. Oh well, not much I can do to change it now. Some days are certainly better than others.

Ok ladies, I better go. Rebecca - you still out there???

I just got back from the OB/GYN. The NST went fine. My amniotic fluid went up to 13%. On Friday, it was 9.77%. I was told by the RN that my OB/GYN likes it to be about 12%. When the gal was doing the mini u/s, I we both felt movement. She said, "Oh, there's the foot." All this time I told her that I thought it was the hand. Now, I know better. During the NST, I guess baby was awake and showing off because I was alone. He/she kept moving around a lot. So the movement was detected on the graph. Not only was that detected, I had a few contractions when I was hooked up to the monitor. Wow, I didn't feel it, though.

The RN also went on saying that since this coming Friday, I'll be at week 37, if the contractions become stronger and more frequent, my doctor will not do anything to stop it. I can deliver at any time. (Please, let me get rid of my cold first.)

My OB/GYN gave me a Rx for Duricef 500 mg. Disp: 7 tabs. Sig: Take 1 tablet 2x/day until gone. He was telling me that all the girls that came in for surgery this morning sounded exactly like how I did. He told me that there is a nasty cold going around and we need to get rid of it ASAP.

Shari and Tina: Thanks for your well wishes. I hope to be fine in a few days.

Oh, boy ... I better go pack the hospital bag NOW!

Tina,
I also feel that I've been stretched to capacity by this little guy. To answer your question on whether the kicks hurt- I was gonna say 'no', that they can actually be pleasant at times. HOWEVER, I think he just discovered my ribs this morning, and he's getting mighty comfy pushing against them. That DOES hurt. I walked around and drank a carbonated beverage, and that seemed to make him move, and it took the pressure off. Basically, I'm just feeling a lot of overall pressure, downwards (pubic bone) and upwards (lungs). Fun, fun, fun. Hope you're feeling better today, and glad your a/c is up and running again!

(Wonder how Rebecca is doing. Not to MENTION Marybeth!!! ?????)

Tina & Shari,

In a word, yes, the kicks are hurting me at times, and the pressure (both up and down) is the worst. This baby has had its left foot in my right rib area, just underneath my boob, for months now. I can deal with the pelvic pains and pressure but I cannot deal with the pressure going upward. The difficulty breathing is a little better than it was since the baby dropped, but it still is fairly bad and I can't eat much at all without being in discomfort. I tend to panic when I feel like I cannot get enough air, and when I lie down (even on my side) I feel like everything in there is pushing up and cutting off my airway. Children! :)

Well ladies, the decision to go for a long walk last night was a mistake. Holy Cow! My stomach got soooo tight and my back hurt so bad the entire way. Not to mention the humiliation I felt walking with my very skinny 18 year old neighbor. I called her up and said, "Hey, girl. You want to take my fat a-- for a walk"? Needless to say, she bust out laughing and proceeded to laugh as I crawled around the neighborhood moaning and groaning. She is still a virgin and such a good girl. I think after seeing what pregnancy does to a woman, she will most likely now stay a virgin for a while!! My husband forbid me from doing that again after he saw how much my back hurt afterwards. I am going to try the elliptical machine at the gym again this week and see if that still works ok for me. I just feel so blah right now and have no energy. I feel like labor would kill me right now! Oh well....

Ok ladies, lots of work to do and I am going by Babies R Us after work to exchange a few things and might sit through a class on helping your baby to sleep. If I learn anything good, I will certainly share.

I am guessing Rebecca had her baby!!!! :)

Tina,
Are you okay, girl? I agree with your husband, no more long excursions. I have trouble even walking a block at this point. And the 3 flights of stairs up to my apartment... don't ask! LOL- I think you are probably right, your neighbor will stay a virgin now that she's seen the aches and pains of the 9th month in all its stark reality! Hope you are feeling more comfortable today, taking it easy. BTW- I have the same feeling about Rebecca probably having gone into labor, and it's so exciting! We got our BFP's on the same day after we went through the difficult 2ww (you were there too, I remember), and it seems like yesterday! And here we all are at the end. I also can't WAIT to hear from Marybeth, but I think it's probably not realistic to hear from her just yet. With twins (going early no less), she is probably still in the hospital, with them in the NICU, etc. I pray all is well with her and her babies.

Seltzer,
I also get panicked when I have trouble breathing. I also have a similar sensation when lying down. I'd describe it as a pulsating sensation in my face, and I get really hot, and I feel my pulse quickening. It usually gets better when I drink some ice cold water. I drink sooo much during the day, and also when I get up at night. I can't get enough, and I'm normally not such a thirsty person. But I'm glad, I guess it's what my body needs, so I'm glad I feel the urge to drink.

Oh, here's another weird symptom. I notice that my lower belly has decreased sensation to the touch, almost like it's half numb or something. Anyone else experience something similar? It kind of made me nervous today, I'm gonna mention it to the doc at my appointment tomorrow. Other than that, the baby is moving all around, not a care in the world (TG). I'm feeling a little more energetic than yesterday, so all around, not a bad day.

Take it easy and be comfortable everyone.

OK, so I know I was one of the first August bump buddies due to deliver
but my little one decided not to wait even that long and made an early entrance into the world at 12.20pm on Thursday (17th) (two and a half weeks early) :D

Things didn't exactly go to plan. I spent almost 36 hours in labour then finally ended up with a c-section but I now have a beautiful baby boy called Oliver Benjamin. He weighed in at 2.64kg (5lb 13.5oz) and is absolutely perfect.

Su - OMG!!! WOW - 36 hours in labor???? Holy Cow!!! Shoot me now!!! I cannot imagine!!! Oh, but I am so happy for you!! You finally have your miracle that you worked so hard on!!! I have tears in my eyes for you - we were buddies back in the old IUI days and now look!!! Congratulations!!!! I love the name, by the way. So cute!!! You need to post some pics!! How are the early days of motherhood?? :D

Shari - Thanks for asking. I am ok now. I took some tylenol this morning and the pain is easing somewhat. I have a busy day anyway today. However, I did discover something ugly on my butt no less when I was getting dressed!!! Yep - a nice purple stretch mark!!! Why can't they leave my butt alone?? Damn! Oh well, add those to the other ones on my hips and away we go!!! :x  :x

I have a new pic to post later but our computer crashed, so it will have to wait. Take care all!!!

I must admit a good portion of thoses 36 hours was with an epidural so fairly pain-free. Don't believe what they say about the gas and air or pethidine, neither did anything for me but the epidural was bliss in a strange way.

I'm absolutely loving being a Mum. Oliver is sleeping and feeding like a little angel most of the time which is allowing me to rest and recover from the surgery. He is just the cutest baby in the world and I'm totally in love.

squeezan - Congratulations on your new little one!! How exciting. You are the first here to announce your delivery. I am so happy for you that all went well (uhm, minus the 36 hrs of labor!) and that little Oliver is healthy and happy. What a wonderful outcome. Enjoy every moment of it all. What is pethidine, and what do they say about this and gas and air? Here we are normally offered injections of narcotics (Nubane, Demerol) and the epidural. But I don't know of the things you mention. Please post pics of your new one!

Tina and Shari - glad to hear you both are hanging in there, but sorry Tina for your pain and discomfort. I really did LMAO though when you talked about your skinny 18-yr-old neighbor. LOL. I always wanted children, but I never wanted to feel like a fatso who has trouble ambulating down the block. I am sure you can relate, LOL. You don't have much longer to endure the back pain and cramping, so hang in there. I know what you mean about feeling like labor would kill you right now. Isn't it almost a cruel joke that we have to surmount the rigors of labor & delivery after enduring months 8 and 9 of pregnancy?! Talk about being kicked when you're already down. Shari - my lower abdomen doesn't feel numb, per se, but it doesn't feel normal either. The whole thing doesn't have the sensation it normally does. Maybe it's the stretching? I can't wait to be able to breathe again. Won't that be a blessing! I know I will never take physical health and comfort for granted again.

Take care everyone...another day to get through. I have this feeling I will not be going into labor anytime soon. I have had no symptoms that differ from any other time of the pregnancy. I even walked on the treadmill yesterday and it went better than it has in a while. OMG, I wish something would happen!

Su,

Wooooow, congratulations, how exciting!! :D :D :D You sound great, and totally happy. Your little boy sounds precious, and what a beautiful name. You are a real trouper with that labor story. It's downright inspiring, and it gave me just that much more resolve to forge ahead knowing that I too can handle it, come what may.

Enjoy your lovely little angel, and keep us posted with stories and photos if you can!

Tina,
"Add those to the ones on my hips and away we go"- LOL. You crack me up! It's kind of silly, but I actually do not mind the stretch marks, because it makes me feel like more of a woman. I don't know if that makes sense, and I should preface it by saying that I also don't wear bikinis, so not worried about baring it at the beach! The only one who sees is dh, who does not mind at all. I will say that I too am shocked, at times, to discover the marks and skin alterations that my body has undergone from this pregnancy. I also notice extra birthmarks where I am sure I had none pre-preg.

Have a good day, and congrats to all the new August mommies (Su + ??)! :P

Shari
