Stefanie - my friend who is a labor & delivery nurse told me that twins typically deliver at 36 weeks, so you may get to hang out with your little ones for your birthday! :)

Nothing new to report here. No new sypmtoms. My bum is looking like it's been through the wringer though with these 2cc PIO injections. I have good sized knots on both sides. The RE doesn't want to decrease my dose until we see a heartbeat at the first U/S. So another week and a half of torture!

Hello everybody!

Just want to wish good luck for this week scans.

I'm sure we all are looking forward to hear that heartbeat!

As for me nothing new to report.
Don't have any pregnancy symptom :(
No more hungry, no dizziness or nausea....nothing.
Only thing is my bloated tummy but that im sure it's from all the drugs that we were on.

Got also midwife appointment for 23rd October.
Hope by then everything is still ok. Would be a heart braking if i have to cancel it.....

That's it for me.....

Morning lovelies!

Woooohooooo! Lots of action this week! Look at all the ultrasound apts!!! I can't wait to hear the news! :D:D:D

Amy,
Hi sweetie; I made the changes if you notice.. :D So sorry about the bloating. It's really tricky... you barely fit in your pants and you've only barely begun the pregnancy journey!!! But you'll see, it really tends to change during the week. The fatigue, well, I'm really plagued with that too. It's useless to just though it out; take naps and change your work schedule if you have to. I swear you'll see a difference right away, it's magical. That PIO is truly a pain in the...!!!! :D:D I don't understand why so many docs stick to it... I guess it's necessary in your case. I hope the dosage changes after your ultrasound! :D

Valerie,
Bonjour! Comment ça va ces temps-ci? Et ta visite? I understand about the strange digestive system... boy, I've had diarrhea all last week, and I'm so gassy all the time. I, too, was both happy and bugged when I lost my bloated belly and realised I could fit very well in my pants. Ha, two days later I was back to bloaty land... If I were you, I would just take folic acid for the moment. Both a nutritionist and a pharmacist told me it,s almost all you need as a supplement for the first three months. The iron, among other things, in the multivitamin can be really agressive on the intestine (and I have irritable bowel syndrome, so I'm really careful with those things). I'm waiting until I see my new ob-gyn on October 9th, and I'll discuss that with her. I might be able to take supplements separately and avoid the nasty iron, who knows? So I'd suggest, take folic acid, or change prenatal vitamins brand. So many women report unpleasant side effects that it's normal to explore brands a little bit...

And as for work, well... legally, I'm not allowed to look into a patient's file or enter make a confidential contact if I don't have a signed referral from their doctor. It's like that for every professional here. But there's another reason. People often think psychologists are just people who like to listen to you and can show empathy, know what to say, and so on. Truth is, I did a Ph.D. and my training is specialized. I give more than empathy and psychological support, I provide a psychological treatment. Many people without formal training can sit down next to a patient and listen empathically. They're natural listeners and they can be super appropriate. I can do that too, but I wasn't hired to do that, I was hired because I can give specialized treatment to the people who really need it. So if I started doing what you suggest, I would send the wrong message to the staff, and I want to avoid that at all costs. Too often, people misunderstand our role and call us to evaluate and "treat" an old lady who's been hospitalized for two weeks and misses her relatives. Of course she needs support, but she doesn't need a psychological evaluation (1hour at least, plus 30 minutes for writing the report) and treatment (i.e. therapy). So she doesn't need me to come to her room, when other resources would be more appropriate. Other doctors panic when people react a little too much while hearing their diagnosis... when it's normal to react and be in crisis mode for at least two weeks after the diagnosis. So they ask me to evaluate people when they're still just processing the news... most of people recover from the shock, so very often it's also a waste of my time (studies show that debriefing is not only useless most of the time, but can also worsen the person's condition by "pathologizing" their reaction).

Anyway, lol, sorry for the rant, but I thought I'd explain the situation a bit better... ;) I really can't wait until your ultrasound too!! Woohoo! Don't worry about the variation of your pregnancy symptoms. It really comes and goes, appetite included. Yesterday I almost fell down my chair when I ate a second stuffed pepper half, but today I wasn't able to finish my breakfast! ;)

smiles,
So sweetie, how was your pregnant weekend? :D:D:D Oh, and by the way, your sticker always changes on all your posts (past, present and future) when you change your signature in your profile.

Stacy,
So, still no niece or nephew? Tomorrow is the big day! :D Will you be around for the delivery? I bet the family is all excited! I also have lots of cramping. I remember during the first few weeks, I had weird cramping that shot all the way through my pelvis, from the front to the back, almost like post-ER pain or kidney pain. I also had cramps all over my pelvic area. Baby still growing and doing fine, so I don't think you should worry. Also be aware that your nerves are not very specific in that area, so they don't translate pain and cramps very accurately... as for the public transportation, I use only that for work. Yes, it's embarassing, but usually people understand. I had to take the seat of a nice woman once in an overcrowded train. She has two kids and she understood perfectly. One of my friends just came back from a trip to London (UK) and she "stole" 5 vomit bags from her plane trips for me. Much more discreet in one's purse than a big white plastic bag, lol! My advice to you is, don't hesitate and ask for someone's seat if you're dizzy or feel nauseous. People do understand that you're asking for a good reason. I usually tell them point blank that I'm pregnant and I'm feeling nauseous, and they understand right away.

Stefanie,
PMApsy and Sophie = same person! ;) It's strange, thinking you won't see those people at the clinic again, isn't it? Boy... they told me to come back and show them my big belly and my baby, don't know if I will. But I know it's what keeps them going on that job, the success stories, so I'll overcome my shyness and do it. How was your apt this morning? I agree with the others sweetie... twins means it's highly unprobable you'll deliver on your b-day! But won't it be nice to have your babies with you on your birthday? Awww!! And you'll have a big nice belly at Xmas! Believe me, I have that image in my head too! :D How do you plan to break the news? (I'll post my plans a bit lower)

Anie,
Oh, sweetheart, I feel you're down these days... I bet you're looking forward to see that heartbeat (won't hear it until around week 11 minimum), it's an incredible sight and feeling! :D:D Don't worry about the lack of pregnancy symptoms. There is a real proportion of women who'll never have symptoms before they start showing. Think of all the women, not so long ago, who learned they were pregnant around 4 months at their doctor's office? They didn't have any symptoms either! :D I know it's reassuring in a way, those symptoms, but believe me most of the time it's a pain in the neck!!! ;) Hang in there hunny *HUGS*, you'll have a nice ultrasound pic very soon!

As for me, things are going well. My in-laws will arrive on the 26th. They will stay until October 12th. It will be nice to have them with us, but difficult to hide the pregnancy until we have a big family reunion with my family. I will push the idea to have a big family dinner or brunch in a restaurant. And when I know which one, I'll call the staff in advance and ask them to make a special cake. My husband's name is Buon, and one of his friends at work calls him "Bubu" all the time. When we married, I became Mrs Bubu. And now of course, I'm Mama Bubu. So on the cake, I'll have them write "Baby Bubu, May 5th 2009" in icing. That way, the whole family will learn the news at the same time and we'll already be in celebration mode. Technically, my grandparents and my sister already know, but they'll act all surprised. ;)

In the meantime, we're preparing the house, lots of cleaning... Plus we're trying to organize a trip to Quebec city to visit my family, but it's not easy. They're very busy and not very well organized. So it's complicated, always. I really hope we'll work it out though, it would be nice to have both sides of the family at the same table again (last time was after our wedding). I'm also trying to find a nice cottage somewhere not too far from Montreal, a place where we can bring the dogs. It would be nice to do some hiking wtih all the fall colors.

Other than that, the dog trainor came last Thursday. Whew, she stayed for 3 hours and we learned LOTS. We have LOTS of homework too! lol! But the dogs are improving slowly. It's nice to know what to do and not do and why.. what messages you shouldn't be sending, and so on. With time, I'm sure our dogs will become far more relaxed and we'll have fun interacting with them. They're both very eager to please, so it's almost easy. It's really funny to see our youngest sit down reeeeeeally carefully, as if he wasn't too sure it's the right thing to do. SO cute! Plus our eldest is really good with the "stay" command, even if she's still very nervous. The homework is not always easy though... LOL, try blocking TWO big dogs from jumping on the sofa when you can't touch them directly or look at them (because it gives them a super nice reward: your attention)... let's say I watched TV in veeery funny positions! Thank God I'm 6' tall!

Okay, time to stop the babbling! Have a great day ladies!

Hey Sophie - My SIL's induction is actually on Thursday, not Tuesday. I just emailed her today to see how she's doing...and find out if she's feeling any different! Thanks for the advice on public transport. I've put a plastic bag in my bag just in case. I'm definitely starting to feel much more nauseous today....had tea and toast for lunch.

Good luck to all ladies this week with their ultrasounds!!!

Hello ladies,

Here are the results of the US. We saw a gestational sac and a yolk sac but RE could not detect a heartbeat. The RE was hoping to see more. But he said it could be a little early as I'm at 6w2d. I know the heartbeat can be seen at this time so I'm really bummed out.
I have to go back Oct.2nd. for another US. Nine more days of torture.
Do you know what my chances are? I could see the Dr. and nurse's face though and you could tell that they were disappointed.
If you have good stories to tell me, that would be great. I'm going to try and stay as positive as possible and hope for the best. I don't have any spotting or bleeding and will take that as a good sign.

Smiles~ Best of luck on your US tomorrow. I hope you get to see that beautiful heartbeat.

Got a migraine today, so I'm going to go rest.

Much love to all,

Hi ladies,

Valerie,

Oh, sweetie, I'm so sorry you didn't get to see the heartbeat!!! But I remember VERY well my own ultrasounds. Remember, I started spotting bright red and they had me the next day for an ultrasound at 5 weeks 3 days. Saw the fetal pole and we were happy about that. I went for a second u/s at 6 weeks and 1 day and I remember very well that the doctor told me he wasn't sure we would be able to see the heartbeat, even if the previous ultrasound was right on schedule and no problem was detected. I remember a poor girl on the April thread, she had to wait until week 7 to find the heartbeat and it was a stressful time. You may simply have a late implanter... seeing a yolk sac and a gestational sac is very good sweetie! You know someone implanted in there! it's not an empty sac! As you said, you're not bleeding and you're feeling good, so these are all good signs.

I agree with you though... they scheduled your next ultrasound WAY too far... 9 days?!?!?! What kind of sadists are they? Isn't there any way you could have it next weekend at the latest? As for the doctor and nurse's faces, understandably you were distraught when you didn't see the heartbeat, so you were probably biased when you interpreted their facial expressions... As for your chances, I checked this website:

http://www.ob-ultrasound.net/joewoo3.html#1

And they say you should detect the heartbeat around 6 weeks 4 days. So indeed you were a bit early at 6 weeks 2 days. I remember with my first pregnancy, it was a question of days before they found the heartbeat, and my beta was very high all the same. I say, it's not over until the fat lady sings. And I'm hearing no singing right now! Hang in there little embie, and keep growing for momma!!!

*HUGS*

Stacey: Congrats to your SIL! Im glad everything is ok and both are well.

Val: My scan is a 7week one so maybe 6week one is a bit early.
I'm not sure though. But be positive. everything will be ok.

Sophie: Thanks for updating everybody's scan and due date.
You are doing a great job and you are good at it. I could never do so beautiful like you. Other thing i do like about you are your post. It is really good to read them and very comforting. :)

And just want to wish good luck for tomorrow's and Friday scan buddies.

Hey ladies, great news on my beta today. Given the doubling every 24 hours rule, I expected it to be at least 3600. Well, it was 9383! I feel like I'm just on the verge of morning sickness. I may have to take a quick business trip before my US next week and I'm rather nervous about administering these doubled PIO doses to myself.

Sophie - what fun it is training your furbabies! We took our most recent one to group obedience classes. She's not perfect now but she behaves when she feels like it.

Val - hang in there sweetie! Hoping for a strong HB for you next week.

Hope everyone else is well!

Hi Val!

I took the liberty of telling the April mommies about your ultrasound and see if they could share stories, because I remembered some of them were in your situation at 6 weeks. Here is what they had to say:
siouxsie wrote: PMApsy: I didn’t see an embryo/heartbeat until 6w6d. I was very anxiety-ridden as evidenced by my earlier posts, but so far it seems to be okay. During weeks 6, 7, and 8, the embryo was also undersized. But, during week 9, it’s caught up. So, I agree that it’s definitely too early to panic. Too bad we can’t relax with a glass of wine or a hot tub soak – a lot of us really need it!
SilverAngel679 wrote:PMApsy: The 7 weeker was me. Our 5week 6 day U/S showed just 2 sacs. Nothing else at all. I didn't see my babies heartbeats until 7 weeks on the dot and everything has progressed just fine. We're all doing great at the babies are VERY active. Tell your friend not to worry till there's something to be worried about and good luck from me!!!
emfossum wrote:PMApsy- I didn't have my first US until 7w2d because of schedule issues with my RE. I actually was glad that it was that late because of other posts where they only saw the sac, and had to wait again to confirm that it was just too early. I recall this happening a lot! So please tell your friend to relax as best she can, and that this happens quite often if the US is scheduled too early.
I hope that makes you feel better! :D:D

Hello ladies!

How are you guys doing? The thread is a bit quiet, no?

Stacy,
Those plastic bags in the purse really help making you feel more secure. And believe me, once you hit the 8 weeks mark, try and think to have kleenex too!!! Geez, that slight nasal congestion can be embarassing when you start dripping in the train, lol! Congratulations auntie!

Smiles,
Kudos to your husband! He sould get used to it, because it's only the start! :)

Amy,
How are you doing today? Great beta by the way! Always nice to have a beta much higher than expected. My little beanie was 3000 over the expected number for the last beta, so it was great! :D Sorry to hear about morning sickness.. a nurse told me that salt helps with nausea, and so does bland food. So she ate big soft pretzels throughout both her pregnancies and the salt and the blandness really helped apparently. Personally, I had a chocolate chips cookies phase (they really helped!) but now I just have to eat whatever tempts me. Do ask your doctor about Diclectin if you have intense morning sickness, because it's perfectly safe and right now I couldn't live without it. It really makes a HUGE difference for me.

Other than that, it's getting more and more difficult to fit into my clothes. It's the bloating. It gets worse in the afternoon and evening, and boy I end the day with my pants unbuttoned. I checked for a Bella Band and I'll buy one ASAP (the store closes at 5pm... gah!). I also can't wait for that company to start selling their belly leggings next week. I'll sure buy some. And well, the Bella Band might help with my regular pants for a while, but until I get it I'll wear my bigger pants (I lost around 25 pounds a few years ago... the BCP had made me gain a stone or two). Definitely feeling like I'm in the "fat" phase, but I'll get there...

I finally was able to organize a big family reunion on Sunday. My PIL will arrive from France on Friday, and we'll go to Quebec city to visit my family. I reserved a private room in a nice little restaurant for the brunch on Sunday morning. I talked to their pastry chef and asked him to make a special cake for the family, I told you guys about it a few days ago. So that way we'll break the news to the whole family at the same time and hopefully we'll get some nice reactions. I know it's not the same thing when you break the news a second time, but at least we'll have a good time. I'll sure take pictures!

Okay, gotta go... I'm hungry!

Hugs,

Sophie

Anie,
Thanks for your kind comments, they really warm my heart! :D How are you doing?

Hi All,

I'm new to the group...this is my first post, but I've been reading a lot of what's been happening with all of you over the past 4 weeks since my pos. preg. result. I'm just about 8 weeks now and feeling much better about everything after my 2nd ultrasound today, so I thought I'd share my story and hopefully help somebody.

My hubby and I have had a tough time in the last 2 years since his testicular cancer diagnosis/surgery and then infertility diagnosis (very low count and motility in the remaining testicle), but we've never given up hope that it will all work out in the end :D . We moved away from our family and friends in Baltimore, MD last year for my husband's residency in CT and have been going through our first cylce of IVF/ICSI over the last few months. I found out I was pregnant on my bday, August 27th and our due date is right around Mother's Day and my hubbies bday, May 8th!

Everything was going well...numbers through the roof...#1beta-242, #2beta--890, #3beta--13,300! We thought it was twins for sure, but we were excited to see that it was just one beautiful bean at last week's u/s. However, at 6w5d, the baby measured 6w4d (which our doc said was fine) and the heart rate was only 92. We were so scared. I searched the web and message boards for people/info. that would help me to get a grip on what was happening and most things I found said that that hr was low for 6w4d. My doctor said not to worry too much, but that I should have another ultrasound this week to make sure that the bpm went up and that the baby was growing on schedule. I prepared myself for the worst, but I'm happy to say that at today's u/s, the baby was still measuring right on track and the bpm had gone up to 149!!!!!---in one week! We're still not out of the woods, of course, but it's definitely a great sign. The doc said that it was probably just late implantation last week and that's why it measured a bit behind and the heartrate was so low--it had just started beating:) We have our next u/s in 2 weeks.

So, for any of you who are looking at this message board stressed b/c of questionable news from your doctor, just remember that positive thoughts are really all that you can give yourself to stay sane through all of the waiting and tests.

Just wanted to share my story and hopefully ease some peoples' minds who are worried about their babies heartrate in those first u/s appts.

Happy thoughts!
Brooke (Beaglebaby)
