Am I not hearing from you ladies because you are giving birth!?!?

Things I have learned:

Never leave home with out a pacifier.
Never leave home when they are about to eat
Do not DO NOT get them off schedule and do not let them get you off schedule

Yeah.

Mackenzie had congestion today so I, of course, freaked out and took her to the doctor. The NICU nurses scared the crap out of me with the RSV virus stuff. It is just "baby congestion" where they do not know how to swallow thick spit or blow their nose. What? And she has not pooped in 2 days which makes me nervous of course and they are not worried as long as her tummy does not get hard. THEN the nurse tells me to boil 4 oz of water and put 2 tsp of sugar in there and let her suck on that?? WHAT?! I was told by the NICU nurses and doctors no water before 1 year of age. Then they tell me (the pedit.) that if she has hard stools to mix prune juice and water (Again, no juice or water before 1) So I am totally confused! So if she does not poop what do I do!? Suggestions?

Anyways, today was interesting to say the least....did I mention that formula is expensive especially for 2?!

I never heard no water before 1, weird... I would do what the pediatrician says. My good ness you never stop worrying do you? ;) which is funny cause I thought once I get my BFP I will stop worrying, I was so wrong! It just started! Suga, you really have your hands full girl! You seem like you are doing an amazing job, I would be so overwhelmed!

Hey suga babies don't need water but you can give a little if you feel they are constipated asn as far as i know the sugar is meant to be brown sugar
if you think they are constipated you could also try coloxyl drops which you can put straight into bubs bottle if you can't get the girls to drink the water i only ever had to give ds one or occassionally two bottles with the drops in it in a row and the problem was gone. giving water is also good for wind that is too low to come up it forces it out the other end but i wouldn't give it too often and i was told 30 to 60 mls. congested babies is a scary thing isn't it i used to worry so much if ds had a cold and his breathing was affected have you seen the snot suckers you can get from your local chemist i think its called Fess for little noses which is basically a saline water that is gently squirted into the nostril to loosen the congestion and then you suck it out with the sucker( it sounds gross but if it works ). It's funny how sometimes simple things like getting a faster teat isn't obvious i've had a few of those moments myself so i wouldn't worry yourself with such things i even worked in child care for some years and still feel stupid with basic things sometimes motherhood is defiantely a learning curve and it'll be great to bounce ideas of everyone. To be honest i never felt i had the hang of motherhood until ds was about 6 months old which is a great age btw.

As for me i have my ceasar booked for the 16th of october it's been a hard decision and its not what i really want but as dh says i wouldn't forgive myself id my uterus did rupture and something awful happened to Katie so i'll just have to grin and bare the consequences of a ceasar and see if i can get my family over to help out while i need it if this was my first bub it wouldn't be a problem having a ceasar i'm just worried cause i know i can't lift, bath or change him not to mention pick him up when looking for cuddles and so on and with dh beinbg unable to do it also it's is definatley a problem for us but anyway the 16th it will be so the count down is on.

Hope everyone else is doing ok is the weather cooling for you ladies yet

Hi gals!!
kelly- hope all is well with you- we look forward to hearing your great news!!!!

suga- you are doing great! I am sure that formula is $$$$- i cannot imagine 2beans worth- any chance you could get coupons or free from a community or church/ synagogue that has donations? I find that it never hurts to ask- or even a local supermarket? i know 1 powder can is like $30 and that's not even a weeks worth for 1!!!!!

Rio-who knows, baby may turn on his own- but no worries- if he is as big as they say, maybe csect is the way to go

Gecko- you're right around the corner!!! do you really think you'll beat your due date? heck you might be there right now!!!!

katie- glad you're back and safe BF class stressed me out way more than the birth class for sure! no worries about weight- if you and the bub are happy, who cares, and BF actually supports quicker weight loss due to the amount of calories burned, and it quickens the time your uterus shrinks as well

mellie- nice belly! I pee all the time, and grunt and groan any time i get up from bed, chair, lean over to pick something up.... talk about old lady!!!!!argh!!

Jomae- whatever is safest for you and Katie is clearly what you should do- I know vbac is what you want, but ultimately, Katie is what you want more than anything- and the 16th is the "sweetest day" ( albeit a hallmark card holiday in the US) so I think it's perfect!!!

So it turns out what's been going on with me is, I am starting to get early labor stuff- I had no idea!!
went to the doc yesterday, she still has not looked at my cervix( and won't until 39wks or 5minute contractions) to see what's going on- she says it doesn't matter even if cervix is dilated to 4cm right now- if no contractions- no baby...so- I guess I am just here until something happens- could be tomorrow- could be 3-4wks from now!!!!!!--- umm, really???? that seems weird to me- makes me want to stop school, then again, I'd hate to just mope around the house for the next while waiting, might as well get some art made, and keep myself busy-maybe start some needlepoint - I love to sew, and want to make stuff, but my sewing table has been broken for a while, and so I usually like to sew on the floor, but since I can no longer bend in the middle, it's become impossible....grrrrrr guess I'll wait until he's here.
anyone else getting inner thigh to pelvis cramping? the high belly stuff seems fine, but the low stuff has me irked!!! feels like a charlie horse round there- normal? not normal? are these really contractions? it's like trying to describe a colour to someone who cannot see, or a scent to someone who cannot smell- each woman's body will feel different, so even in describing what I think I feel, I suspect no one else will have the same connection to what it feels like.

Anyhow- enough ranting, have a glorious day and take care all

Suga- sounds like you have your hands full. But at the same time you sound like you are really are handling things like a super-mom!!!

Kelly- Can't wait to get the big news! Hope all is well.

Katie- I'm glad you are doing well. I know how difficult it can be to get back on track after a storm. rrrrr....

Mellie- I LOVE the old lady analogy. It's soooo true.

Gecko- How are you doing? I hope you and the little one are still holding strong.

Rio- What a huge baby! I hope that all goes well tomorrow. I can't believe it's already that time. I know what you mean about getting anxious

Loopie- how cool about the doula. My massage therapist/yoga instructor is also a doula. When I mentioned it to DH he assured me he could handle the job just fine. HA! Do you think you are having contractions and just not feeling them? That's what happened to me today. Have your OB do a NST and see what's going on.

Jomae- I'm sure the c-sect isn't what you wanted, but Baby Katie is going to have it her way. And I just know things will work themselves out with your other little one. You and DH will be fine. How cool to have a date to look forward to!

Me- well, I had a great massage Monday and it totally helped with my swelling. Went to the doc today and was ready to have a boring "No news" appointment. My doc NEVER makes predictions. But, after my exam he told me that he "didn't expect me to make it to my due date, BUT he could be wrong". The baby is much lower than he expected. He covered all the early labor signs like water breaking, leaking, mucus plug. And then he told me if I happen to go to the hospital before next weeks appointment to let them know that at my last exam I was 70% thinned out and 1.5 cm dilated. But then he finishes by saying I could be this way for a couple more weeks. Arghhhh. Oh and I'm giving birth to a baby hippo! Gavin looks like he will be weighing in between 8 -9 lbs. When I told him I never have contractions he told me I was having one in the office. Clearly, I'm an idiot. :? Any hardening of the belly is probably a contraction. But he assured me I'll know when it's time. And just as a heads up, the term "bloody show" is just that! Before I could leave the exam room, I was having some serious mucus and blood passing. Apparently all normal too. Just as long as it doesn't last more than 24 hours. Yuck!

Wishing all of you ladies a beautiful week!!!!
~peace

Katie - Glad you are back home safe and sound. The storm sounded horrible. I live in sunny California and have never experienced anything like a hurricane. I would be terrified! How are you doing?

sugabeanz - You sound like an awesome mommy! Don't be too hard on yourself; it sounds like you are doing everything right. I am really worried about my mothering abilities. I have been so focused on just getting pregnant and staying pregnant that I haven't really thought beyond that. Sounds strange, huh? Anyway, I am not particularly maternal, but my DH is - THANK GOD! I hope I get the swing of it all.

Mellie - You are right with your comparison of pregnancy to old age. Yikes! I creak and groan everytime I move these days. I just can't see how I can get any bigger! I have trouble breathing, walking, getting out of a chair, rolling over in bed, ect....

Jomae - Hope all is going well for you. Keep Katie in for a little longer! It won't be long until we are all moms. Unbelievable, huh? I am just amazed at what we have all gone through!

Rio - Well, it's going to be you next it seems! My blood pressure readings are still creeping up - this morning was 134/84 and they had been averaging about 120/75 or lower throughout all of my pregnancy. I see my doctor again next Tuesday and she will talk to us about inducing labor. She said that she really doesn't want me to go beyond (or even up to) my due date. She said I have done so well throughout my pregnancy that she doesn't want to tempt fate. I will find out on Tuesday what is next and will hopefully have a date for inducing. Yippee! We are so excited and just can't wait!

loopie - I am having lots of contractions too. I have been for a few weeks but still no real labor. I get cramping across the top of my tummy that radiates down, and other times I get a bad back cramp that radiates to my lower ab and then up. I don't really know if they ae doing anything to soften my cervix or not, but I sure hope so. If my cervix is ready the induction will go well. I sure want to avoid a c-section if at all possible. I hope yours are getting stronger and stronger! It will soon be time!

weezie - Wow! You sound really ready to deliver! When is your actual due date? I think you and rio are next! Don't worry about Gavin's weight. My doctor said bigger was better for the baby. Declan weighed in at over 7 pounds at week 35 and I am now at week 38 so he should be about 8 1/2 pounds about now. He looks like a butterball on ultrasound!

Kelly - How are you?! We need an update!

Tammy - what's new with you?

Hi Girls!!! Sorry sooo long to post and update you all...but I am a MOMMY!!! Zachary was born 9.18.08 at 10:35 pm, weighing 5'11, 18" long....after 78 hours of labor and ending in c-section. I was sent from the docs on Monday, 9.15.08 with low amniotic fluid in my 35th week to the hospital to deliver, but when we got there Zach's vitals were fine..so I asked if I could be induced and go vaginally instead of c-section...this went on till Thurs. After 2 rounds of cervadil and 4 rounds of cytotec and 2 rounds of pitocin maxed out on the strongest settings for 13.5 hrs and 9 hrs ...I never got past 2cm....they administered the epidural and my blood pressure dropped and Zach went to distress. I went straight to surgery. He is doing great, but because he is a preemie he has been in NICU for 1 week now. We believe we will be going home soon. Bill and I are staying in the residence dorm at the hosp..they gave us a free room with 1 twin bed to share...so that I can breast feed, pump, change, weigh, and cuddle Zach every 3 hours (giving him 2 hours to rest) and then do it all over again. We dont have internet connection here...however, I did find a spot on the other side of the hosp now. LOL I have no time to even catch up with you all right now...because we should head back over to see Zachary now.

Hope everyone is doing well and talk to you all soon! :D

Tammy - Congratulations new mommy! I am so glad to hear that you and Zach are doing well!! Keep us posted on when you are taking him home to that gorgeous nursery of yours. I am impressed that you tried a vaginal birth for so many hours, wow
Loopie- upholstering? Wow, I can't really do much these days besides try to keep the house in order, it is hard to bend and move! We are also taking some more belly pics since this is the last stretch! You are so right about describing contractions, my symptoms are more tightness and difficulty breathing and I get really flushed, very weird. Post some art pics!
Katie- I am having a c-section on 10/2 :D
Gecko- I am sure all of your maternal instincts will come rushing in :) I worry also! I can't wait to find out when you will be induced :) good job keeping your BP down!
weezie- the massage sounds great! Oooh I wish I had one today. But I did have a cleaning lady come and the house looks great! With me being so huge it is so hard to keep it clean with 3 dogs. Wow it seems like you are not very far behind! You already passed your mucus plug! I didn't. And 70% thinned out, wow!
Suga- how is Mackenzie doing? Is she ok from congestion and has she pooped?
Jomae- I agree with everyone that it is important that you and your little bean are safe, however you end up delivering.

Went to the OB today and still having contractions, most that I don't feel. Baby was doing well and we got an u/s, he says baby is now 8-5oz and he commented that the baby has a  huge head so might as well be c-section, he is still breech and too big to move to the right position. I am ok with the c-sec. Looks like he will be a 9 pounder and that's 10 days early! Ob also said if I get 8 contractions in 1 hour to call him and we will deliver any time now. I really do want to make it to Thursday though... he said because he is breech he does not want me to go into labor. I am getting anxious about him being healthy. Any of you feel the same way? I know I already counted the toes and did all the tests but I pray that he comes out healthy.

Quick question, do any of you gals have snoring DHs? My Dh (who I love dearly) is a snorer and I sleep with earplugs, I am nervous that between him and the baby I will not sleep at all  If I change rooms with the baby it will break his heart... Any suggestions?

One week to go, I can't believe it! We will all be mommies so soon! We need to start our little thread on the "parents after treatment" section!!!!!

Did I mention I am dying for some hot fudge Sundae  after the baby comes? This GD is getting old

Tammy - Hooray!!!! I am so excited for you. What a long labor though. You are a real trooper to go through all that and then have a c-section. I hope you are feeling ok after the surgery. I hope Zach gets to go home soon. Keep us posted on how your new family is doing.

Jomae - You crack me up with your comment that none of us will actually deliver in October! You may be right too. Looks like Rio and I may squeek in the September crowd too.

Rio - My DH is a big time snorer too. I have slept with ear plugs for years. My plan is to continue to do that and let DH wake me up when the baby is crying. The only time I think I will sleep in another room is the night before DH has to go to work because he gets up at 4am to drive three hours to the firehouse and I want him rested. Overall, I think we are going to be so sleep deprived the first month or two that it really won't matter......

I am off to my regular NST this morning. I am actually bringing my hospital bag with me just in case as I have been having LOTS of contractions, back pain and cramps. They were pretty consistent all day yesterday but are only slowly becoming more intense. I also didn't feel the usual activity from the baby as I did earlier in the week. He's moving (just got over the hiccups as I was typing this) just not as much. I really hope this is the beginning of real labor. Wish me luck!
