Why you don't POAS (read to the end!)

Post by Fluffypuppygal »

Hi Ladies! (and Gents!)
Okay, so I was coming home from work and curiosity got the better of me... Yup, I weakened and POAS right before going out to dinner. NEGATIVE!! Not even a HINT of positive!
Well, one big sigh came out, but I put on a brave face and walked out of the bathroom. After all, I had been pretty sure that none of the three 4-cell embryos would make it. They just didn't look like the picture and the doc gave me odds of about 37%.
So we went out to dinner, and hubby was being tired and cranky. Behind us was every infertile woman's nightmare. (You know the one! The loud, greesy, smoke-smelling, major-exposed-bra-under-skin-tight-halter shirt young mother with the perfect infant at her side! (Okay, I don't know her soul, but her exterior was giving me lots of clues!))
So during the course of dinner, DH finally notices I am depressed and keep asking to go home. He refuses to leave unless I tell him why I'm down at the dinner table. So I tell him and we went home. Waiting for me in the mail from Netflix is "Waitress," the story of a single, young woman's coming to terms with her pregnancy! Yikes! Not watching that! So instead I decide to mope and go ahead and break out some wine! (Afterall, the stick said "no!") Two big glasses of wine and one big crying fit later, I got to bed.
This morning DH drives me to the doctor for my beta. I tell the MA at the clinic what happened, and to not fell bad about letting me know the bad news, as I already know. She hugged me and told me she would call me later.
So on the drive back, DH and I discuss how our life is going to be, since we would never be a family outside of the two of us. We decide instead of going to Vegas, to go ahead and get a small RV trailer we had been looking at, since we would now have lots of time and financial freedom. We are talking with the sales people when my cell-phone rings....
BFP! Beta of 60.85! She said that is why I didn't register on the stick - the number was on the low side, but still there!
Well, we didn't buy the RV trailer! (The dealer was actually pretty understanding and kind about the whole thing!)
So I guess the moral is don't POAS before the beta!
Next beta is Monday! Pray for numbers to go up! 8)

HPT or POAS

Post by Hil »

I thought that the "good HPT" brands could measure your HCG when it is as low as 10 ml?

Fluffy!! What a great story!! That is soooo cool, good for you!!! My test was positive too but my beta was only 34! And I got two faint positives on the HPT. I guess it depends on which HPT you use or whatever. But right on and good luck!

Congratulations.

There would not much wrong with doing the HPT as long as you don't put much stock in the negatives. Only the positives can be trusted this early on.

Thanks guys! I'm definitly off the vino for a while! Now I'm just busy worrying over beta numbers!
Does anyone know ways to boost them up?

Congrats on your BFP fluffy!!
great news- no need to worry and no way to "bump up the beta" that I know of- you just keep up the PMA, eat, and rest - it just needs to double in 72hrs- it's all up to the bean and your body now!

cheers!

There is no known relevant way to "boost the beta". You could get an hCG shot, of course, but that would not reflect embryo health.
