Hi all,
I have been lurking for a little while - reading a lot of your messages.. not sure if I am even posting this message correctly!
I wanted to introduce myself.. my name is Lauren - and I am in the middle of my first IVF cycle. I had my egg retreival this past Sunday and I should know by tomorrow morning if I am going to be having a D3 or D5 transfer. If D3, I will be going in tomorrow afternoon. I do have some questions regarding eggs retrieved.. number of eggs fertilized.. so, any assistance would be great.

On Sunday, they retreived 11 eggs.. even though I had over 60 follicles. Many of them were very small and didn't produce eggs.. and I was on stims for a 15 day run. Of the 11 eggs retrieved, 7 of them were mature and they were all fertilized with ICSI. Of the 7, 6 of them are growing nicely. Is this a normal number? good ? bad?

Some history - I am 32 as is my DH. I have PCOS and diabetes (type 1, well controlled) and my husband has MFI (very low morphology). Additionally, I have post-operative adhesions blocking my right tube. We tried to conceive for almost 2 years.. and jumped into IVF.

The stim drugs I was taking was follistim, low dose HCG, and lupron. I triggered with Ovidrel. I am nervous and excited.. and all the other emotions in between..

Would love to connect with others that are in similar situations.

harleyloo-Welcome to our board...What exactly are your questions??? I know just because you have 60 follies does not mean you will get eggs from all of them. You have a lot of issues and with that it seems like you have a good turn out.

Wow you stimmed for a long time...I have never seen anyone stim 15 days...so you triggered on day 15?

harleyloo welcome to the board and good luck with your cycle i have just entered my 2ww this is also my first ivf cycle it looks to me you did well i had 9 follies good sizes to re unable to retrieve from right ovary 6 on left ovary only 2 good quality 1 fertilized and was transfered on day 3 my 7 cell little guy in my opion that is good i have quantity envy but i know it only takes one and i am impatiently waiting for beta. Good luck and keep us posted.

smattison i have yet another question i seen RE for first bwu after ET and was told to start taking estradiol tab with PIO shot at night does it mean my level dropped i read up on it and it seems more like a bcp to me is this just routine before beta.

good morning everyone -

i actually started stims on 9/28. I took the meds up until 10/10, which is actually 13 days.. but, they count from the start of stims to the retreival. I triggered on 10/10, and didn't take any meds then or on 10/11.

i guess my general question was to get a flavor of how many eggs you all are seeing - I was told that I faired very well.. but, the day before I went in for ER, they told me they were expecting to get 16 eggs. So, i guess when they told me that they only got 11, I got a little concerned / worried.

You are absolutely right, and it only takes 1..

It is definitely nice to have a group of women that are at points on this rollercoaster ride.

Hey Lauren,

It's so hard to tell with the number of eggs if it will work or not. I had 20, 17 mature, 16 ferilized with ICSI and only 2 made it to blast (none to freeze). I had a BFN. However, my friend had 12 eggs, 8 fertilized, 2 made to blast (none to freeze) and she is 11 weeks pregnant on her first IVF try. I thought for sure since I had twice as many fertilize that I would at least have SOME frozties, but that's not always the case.

Your numbers sound good to me...a lot like hers, so best of luck! My SIL has almost 7 year old twins and only had a 1% chance of getting pregnant with multiples (she was 42) and an 8% chance of getting pregnant at all. Three actually took initially. It's such a guessing game and only God knows for sure

But, it's always fun to know what others have experienced.

Hi Lauren - welcome to the board!

I just went in for my blood draw this morning for my first beta. I am positive it is a BFN as AF is doing her best to get started - I think the progesterone is trying to keep her at bay! Anyway - I'll post once I have the official word from the doc this afternoon cause my nurse said she knows women who have a full period and are also healthily pregnant!

Well, I'm not an expert - but I think your numbers sound good. From what I understand - retrieval of 8 eggs or more is considered a 'high response' - so it sounds like you did well. Here is my experience. I stimmed for 10 days on very high doses of meds (i had no response to lower doses). 5iu lupron 1x/day, 150iu menopur 1x/day, 225iu gonal-f 2x/day. I triggered with Novarel.

They retrieved 10 eggs and 8 fertilized - I thought this sounded like a very good start! Even ghost said those were good numbers - sadly, only 2 made it to day 3 and they transferred a 6cell and 8cell. The embryologist said this pointed to an 'egg quality' issue - so I had the quantity, but not the quality.

I've heard other stories similar to mine who have changed docs & protocols and have had better results - so don't let your first cycle numbers dismay you. We are all different and there is a bit of trial and error to the process.

I will be thinking about you today - stay hopeful about a BFP.. my girlfriend had AF for two months while she was pregnant. She actually didn't find out until she was almost through her first trimester. (can you imagine ? -- i hate hearing stories like that!) .. but, you are correct.. hopefully a high beta will come and surprise you.. keep me posted!

I should hear from the embryology lab before 12 today, to confirm what is going on. I truly don't know if my 6 embies are developing - although, i have been told that "no news is good news". I spoke to my nurse just a few minutes ago - she has the feeling that I will go on Friday.

Friday would actually work a bit better for me.. b/c my DH is at work - b/c he had an important meeting to attend today. Friday he has taken a personal day.. so, I would certainly have him come along...

Anyway - I will be thinking about you today.. baby cement!

Gues what ladies! My beta came back and i got a BFP. I cannot believe it.

My beta is 94 but my nurse said that was fine given that they brought me in one day earlier and i only transferred one little guy. This has been such a long journey for us as am sure it has been for all of u as well. I am trying to get in touch with my DH but can't seem to reach him. I still can't believe that my one embryo that was frozen, survived the thaw and made it. I know it is not over yet but i am just so happy to be pregnant. I go back on friday for my second beta.

Thank you all so much for the support that you have given me. I would not have made it without all of u. Good luck to all u ladies out there that are trying and know that miracles do happen. Hugs to all u beautiful ladies.
