Michele: Yeah there are shots. I think it is when they get the MMR that they have linked it to but our pedi says there is no link and no final scientific studies. Being a teacher myself, I have seen Autism. More prone in boys of course from what I see. There are some vaccines I will not let them give our girls though (Chicken Pox, The HPV one for girls, etc) There is no need for those in my opinion. Our girls are really only 2 months old so we do not start solids till Feb. So we still have a couple of months to wait.

Michele- congrats on the job- if you're going to get one- best that it's great hourly like that!
I've started to think about babycare, but have no idea where to start- I think Dh and i are tabling it for a bit longer- perhaps a windfall or karma will steer us in the right direction- so for now, I'm home and DH works from home 1 day a week - it helps me get some errands done

I'd really like to know more about the autism/ Asbergers stuff and studies, Michele - do you know of a website that has good info? I guess I was under the impression that it was genetic or something that exterior stuff didn't influence- would be good to know...
one thing I have heard is that there may be a link of ADD to artificial colorants in processed foods (like those crappy juice drinks and fake colored stuff supposed to appeal to kids) don't know for sure- but would be good to check out

Suga- another 2 mos of bottles only- wowwee -Pulman got the Hepatitis B shot at the hospital- don't know what ones are in store at 2,4,6 mos

Rio- you doing ok? are you home? recovered from surgery?

gecko- is Dh back? are you still flying solo?

we hope to go and get a tree today- planned on it yesterday, but a trip to IKEA was about what we could handle- on the bright side- a few hours later, we headed out to our dear friend's bar and had some Guinness and eats- he was an angel even on the loud bar and we came home and he slept through the night!!!!!!10:30-6am no way!!!!! I know it's a fluke, but it was nice- I still woke up a couple of times to make sure he was ok and when he gurgled or something- but all in all- pretty awesome- the trick- take 'em to IKEA and wear 'em out!

Sugabeanzs - At two months Declan got shots for polio, pneumonia, T-Dap which is diptheria - whooping cough and tetnas (sp?), hep B, and an oral one for rotovirus which is a really bad gastrointestinal virus that babies can get. It seems like they go on forever! He has shots at 2, 4, 6 and 12 months and then he is done for awhile. I worry too about the link between the MMR vaccine and autism, but in all my research on it, I haven't seen anything conclusive so Declan is getting all his vaccines and we will hope for the best. Since I work in public education I see what happens when kids don't get vaccinated. Basically they can't come to school and a few have gotten the measles or mumps and it is really bad.

Cinci - I do remember that you went back to work. How is it? I am dreading going back. I will miss my baby so much! It sound like you have a great daycare provider. We interviewed an in-home daycare provider on Friday and hope to move Declan to her when she has an opening. She only charges $1200 a month for full time which is a lot better than the place declan is enrolled in now. I will keep my fingers crossed that she has an opening soon. She thinks in the fall.

Michele - Congrats on getting the job!!! It sounds like it will work out perfectly for you.

Loopie - DH was home for all of his four days off this week and just went back to the station this morning. It was great having him home even though he does get grumpy with the lack of sleep. We got a lot done too including puting up all our outside Christmas lights/decorations yesterday. It took twice as long as we had Declan out there in his stroller and our puppy on a tether, but it got done and looks great! We haven't taken Declan out to a restaurant yet. I am stoked that your baby did so well! I think we are going to take him out for the first time next week when we go to lunch with my mom to celebrate my birthday. We are going to take him to a dim sum restaurant. I will let you know how it goes. I think we may do some laps on the freeway to get him asleep first. That usually works.

hey girls,

gecko- it must be nice to be in sunny warm california...I woke up to an inch of snow this morning, which is pretty, but I know go into winter hibernation mode. I don't want to go out anywhere, I think the high for this week in CT is 35 and that is not taking into account the windchill.

Loopie- there are 2 pretty good sites for info on autism. The autism society of america- www.autism-society.org and www.autismspeaks.org. They both have some good, non-bias, general info. I donate to the autism society a couple of times a year, they are a good organization. It is good to be informed about these types of things, but I agree with gecko, I think there is more risk in not vaccinating than there is in getting it done...it will always be a hot topic until they find a definitive cause.

And I hear ya about Ikea...the place wears me out too! My mom-in-law works there and I hate going to visit, the store is just way too big!

Well, I think Ella is starting to teeth. She wants her fingers in her mouth all the time. She gets pretty cranky at times too. I noticed a couple of times that she has one red cheek and when i googled it, some people said it could be related to a tooth coming in on that side.

Michele: When does teething start? lol Brooke has started to drool A LOT, she is not in pain just drooling! I thought it was reflux but now I am not sure. They are too young to teeth!! My babies are getting so old! haha

Gosh, I live in Florida. The high today was like 54? I think that is cold! I can not imagine living up north! I like the cold every once and awhile but not all winter long. Thus why I will live in the south forever! hehe.

So I am going on Weight Watchers. I was on it before and lost weight so I know it works and it helps me with portions. I am getting it for Christmas for myself haha. I just need someone to keep me in line on doing it. I need to be accountable to some higher authority! lol. So I will start in the New Years after the holidays are over.

Suga- I think they can start getting their first tooth as early as 3 mo, typically between 4 and 7 months. We just elected to put her on our dental plan for 2009 b/c I think they see the dentist between 6 and 12 months. It must be nice to be in warm florida...but I don;t know if I could deal with the hot in the summer. We have very good friends around orlando who would love us to move there, and I think dh wouldn't mind going, but I also don't think I could leave my family either...

Hey ladies....just saw you were discussing autism and I wanted to say a couple of things.
2 people I know have autistic kids and it's really worth some research. 1 in 150 kids are getting it...more than aids, cancer and diabetes combined. CT-Michelle is right on those sites...they're great. Jenny McCarthy's book is really informative as well....she firmly believes it's the vaccines. Some people think it's the mercury in fish etc.
There's a pediatrician in LA who's dividing the vaccines more & spreading them out timewise in the hopes that will help. So babies get all the vaccines, just over a longer timeline which makes some sense.
May be worth looking in to that. If I get that far, I'm going to see if it's viable. It's just really scary not knowing why it's happening.

Glad to see you're all doing well....i think of you often!!

Rinnie I have already talked with my pedi about spreading them out. I def want the vaccines I believe in them. She said it is fine to spread them out and it is up to the parents. They can not give them unless you sign a form anyways! So I would discuss it with your pedi also about getting them spread out!

How are your kids sleeping at night?! How much do they weigh and how long do they sleep? I know every kid is different. Mine are 11lbs now and still eat at 7PM 10PM 3AM and 7AM then every three during the day. That 3AM feed is killing me! When do they drop that?!

suga- I think ella is close to 11 pounds, and she has her last bottle between 8 and 10 at night and then doesn't wake up until between 5 and 7 am to eat. I can't believe you are still doing the mid night feedings...

rinnie- i understand peoples concerns with vaccines, but i think it is too risky not to vaccinate. I am not convinced of the link. Many people over the past decade have chosen not to vaccinate their children, yet the autism rates keep rising. I have done so much research in college on the subject and so many experts disagree, so its good to just be cautious and informed.

I just came back from my tutoring and I was with a second grade girl who reads by my judgement at a kindergarden level or lower...it just reminds me how important it is to work with ella at home and read to her all the time. Right now we are reading out loud to her the tale of despereaux. I have wanted to read that book for a long time and now the movie is coming out, so no better time than now. I know she can't understand, but the vocab is great for her.

Hi Girls!
Thank you so much for checking up on me. I had my surgery last Tuesday. It was supposed to be piece of cake, outpatient. Well I am glad the doc decided to do this at the hospital and not the clinic. I woke up in awful pain, nauseated and in awful shape. They decided to keep me in the hospital until I had thing under control. I spent the night there and DH kept bringing in bean once in a while but I slept there alone, it was weird. I kept pumping and "dumping" since I had too many meds, I was throwing up and in pain, yuck! Piece of cake surgery my ......!!!! I feel better but it is hard carrying bean around, he is a little over 12lbs now and 25inches. I have 5 incisions through my belly and bellybutton. I am off meds but really sore. The upside is I get another 4 weeks disability. I have to go back to work in January but might try part time first, I never thought it would be so hard to leave the bean!!! But we need the money bad.
DH is in a better mood, we slept when the baby slept for this week since I was sick and he got more zzzs and his mood is way better, we'll see if it stays that way! Plus bean is smiling and acknowledging him so I think that gets him going!

I just wanted to drop in and say hello. Parker either sleeps till 6 or 7 or gets up at 330. Last night we tried to put him in his crib for the first time He has been in a pack and play in our room. He did really good he slept until 4 and we brought him to our bed. He has been having trouble sleeping good this past week because he is congested so I think that is part of it.

We went out of town last thursday thru sunday it was a 7 hour drive and he did GREAT I was really worried, but he slept most of the time and hardly fussed. On the 19th we are going again but this time it will be only about 3 1/2-4 hours so it will feel like a breeze.

How's everyone else? Who is still bfeeding and pumping? I am pumping and giving him one formula bottle on his last feeding before bed. He is ok but really gassy. Poor thing and it seems its worse when he is on breastmilk. But I dont want to stop. We go in for his 2 month visit and I will ask the doc what he thinks. Ok well hope everyone is good. Rio hope your surgery went well.

suga- I forgot to mention before, good luck on weight watchers. I have never tried their program before, but I have had many friends who have and had success. I myself am a low carber. About 3 years ago, dh and I did it and he lost over 100 lbs and I lost over 70. Then we both quit smoking, we got poor and needed to eat ramen noodles again, we got pregnant and all I could eat the first trimester was mashed potatoes, so needless to say, we put most of it back on. But we started doing it again together about 2 months ago, and he is down about 23 lbs and I am around 13, so it is coming off slow this time, but we are staying really strict. There is nothing in our house that we can't have on the diet. Even on thanksgiving, I said I was only going to have a tiny bit, and I couldn't even finish what was on my plate. So if any of you guys try low carb, and need some great recipes, let me know.

Hello all! Sorry I have not posted in a while! I do read posts when I can. Just wanted to mention that I have read that when babies are in the 10-12 pound range, many are capable of sleeping through the night. We lucked out with Noah as he started sleeping through the night before 8 weeks. However, what we started doing is that when he wakes up during the night, we just pick him up now, walk him around, and he goes back to sleep. No bottle. We used to always give him a bottle, but then I read that they come to expect it and will thus wake up for it. Anyway, Noah usually goes down between 9-10 p.m. and sleeps until anywhere from 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. Last night we fed him his last bottle around 8:30 p.m. He went to bed at 9:30 p.m. and then woke up around 5:30 a.m. My husband picked him up, walked around, and put him back down. He went right back to sleep and woke up a little before 7 a.m. So, just a thought. Every baby is different...and I know Noah is a bit of a fluke....cuz many of my friends are still doing 3 a.m. feeds - even at 5 mos! However, the feedings take so much time during the night and that might not be why the babies are waking up. Anyway, you know your babies...but just thought I would offer my 2 cents!

Hope everyone is doing well. We are going to be doing rice cereal pretty soon. I am nervous about it. I read babies can choke on it in their bottle?

tINA: We have been doing rice cereal in the bottle for awhile now....no choking. Just make sure the hole in the nipple is big enough. I asked that with my pedi as well...so far so good. Next week (when husband does not have school so I can take a nap) I am going to try not giving them the bottle and just make them go back to sleep. We shall see!


The girls got their RSV shot today and they have to be weighed (shot goes according to weight). Brooke is 11 lbs 9 oz and Kenzie 11 lbs 6 oz!!! So they are still gaining about an ounce a day! Soon they should sleep through the night I hope!!!!
