Tina....getting Lucy to sleep on her own is the hardest thing I've had to face so far as a mother. We waited way too long...she was 1 when we started. She would lay in her crib and cry for what seemed like forever...but was actually like 45 minutes. She would go to sleep, eventually. After 31/2 weeks of this (yes, that long) she finally got to where she would go to sleep as soon as I layed her down. Although alot of times, I just rock her to sleep and then lay her down. I figure, I have the time, so why make her cry it out. Listening to her cry was so sucky. But it really seemed to have no effect on her. We would go in and check on her every 20 minutes or so when she was crying. One night, she cried so hard, she puked. That made me feel like the mother of the year, let me tell you!

So, even though the crying it out thing worked for us, I still have very mixed feelings about it and to this day, if she starts to cry while sleeping I go in and rock her back to sleep. I'm probably setting her up for total failure as an adult, but I just can't help myself!!!!

Oh, and I've taken so many picture of Lucy that if she sees a camera in my hand, she looks the other way on purpose and won't look at me until I put the camera down. Stubborn little baby!

Tina- Wow, what a difficult question. I know they say that you MUST let the kids cry it out. However, for the first year I nursed Shelby to sleep. Never did she have to cry it out. Then when I quit nursing I would lay on her floor with my hand in her crib until she fell asleep. If I didn't she would cry hysterically until I was also crying.
Shelby is 3 now, and still struggles going to sleep. However, we now let her read books in her room, or play with toys in her bed until she falls asleep. Some nights she is alseep in 15 minutes, some nights its 2 hours. However, she eventually falls asleep.
I look at it as they are only young once. She only depends on me for a short while then she will not want anything to do with me. So, I will spend as much time with her now, and do whatever it takes.
I don't think she will be wanting me in her room when she is 18, but if she does great. At least I will know it's me in there and not some boy :D
Anyhow, it's whatever works best for you and your family.

Hey girls!!! THis will be quick I am not at home...

Nickster~ AHHHH!!! Congratulations!!! I am so happy for you, and thank you for reassuring me about the HB. I can finally feel the baby move around in there so I feel much better. How are you feeling???

Robbo~ We find out the sex a week from tomorrow, I can't wait!!! I had that 24 hour bug too- it was not fun. I can't imagine taking care of a little one with it- poor thing!!

Tina~ I have a good sleeper MOST of the time. I got the aquarium thing that fisher price makes and I turn it on when I put her in the crib and she falls asleep to it. She gets up once in the night and she knows we are not coming in so she turns it on and it puts her to sleep again. I just hear it come through the monitor so I know she is awake, but she doesn't cry so I don't go in there. I do let her cry it out, but it is never more than 2 minutes. It took us a while to get there though! At this point if she cries more than 5 min. I go in b/c something is wrong. I think it took a couple nights of letting her cry, and it was really hard, but now she sleeps 8pm-6:45am and I am a happy lady. I do the same for her naps- lay her down and turn on the mobile and walk out. I even bring it when we go out of town so she keeps the same routine. I don't rock her to sleep unless she is sick, and the only bottle she gets before sleep is her bedtime bottle. Hope that helps- we had to start this all around 4 or 5 months so it must just be his age. DH just turned to me one night after I had been running in every couple hours and was like "I think it is time to get her to sleep all night". So I read up and asked everyone I knew for advice and did it!

Meg~ sounds like you have a tough cookie. If Anna had cried till she puked I don't know what I would have done!! I am sooo lucky to have an easy sleeper--unless there are new teeth involved!! Then she has trouble sleeping of course. And I don't think rocking her is setting her up for failure- I love to rock Anna!! She doesn't let me do it very often. She is too busy!

Gotta run- hope everyone has a great year in store for them!!
Jenn

Hi girls!

We had another ultrasound this morning. Both babies are measuring exactly what they should (6w4d) and two beautiful heartbeats of 118 and 122. We cannot stop smiling! This is absolutely amazing!!!
We are officially released from this dr's office (although they will still take calls, etc. until our OB appt.) which kind of brought on mixed emotions. We have gotten so used to them.
So my OB appt is February 3rd which is when the next "official" ultrasound will be. This is where it will pay to work on a Labor & Delivery floor...I will have at least one ultrasound before then!!

Tina~ Sorry your having so much trouble with Noah and sleep. Obviously I don't have much advice but I don't envy you having to make that decision, that would be a tough one.
BTW~ Noah (and family pictures) adorable as always!

Meg~ We need new ones of Lucy!

Jenn~ What day is your appt next week? Can't wait to find out what your having. I'm going to put my guess in as girl.

Vicky~ Good to hear from you. Sounds like you've been staying real busy. Congrats on getting the Pathology residency.

Talk to everyone soon.

Nickster - awesome news!!! I am at work, so can't type more. But congrats!!!! 2009 is going to be YOUR year!!! What is your due date???
And for God's sakes - Fix your ticker!!!

Noah is now in his own room in his own crib and back to sleeping through the night. He slept 10.5 hours last night! Life is good. We could not let him truly cry it out. I could not handle it. However, we have been teaching him how to start putting himself to sleep and he is great at it. We watch him on the monitor and he appears to wake up all throughout the night and then puts himself back to sleep. He is so awesome. Life is improving!!

Ok, gotta run. Will type to everyone else later!!

Alright, I feel bad. But that was fun. Ok, I think your issue might be that you are copying and pasting too much of it in...so, here is what to do....

Where it says bbcode: Copy the part that starts with [img]. It then goes on to include http://tickers.tickerfactory.com.....blah, blah. So, copy that whole part starting with [img] all the way to the end of it. Then paste it into your profile. The darn thing took me a while the first time, too. But you need a ticker!!!! I am too excited for you not to have one!!!

See if it works....
