Just a quickie for me, but I couldn't not react to the big news... CONGRATULATIONS CAROLYN FOR THE BEAUTIFUL FERT REPORT!

Lee,
Hi baby, working hard on that valued contributor status I see!

Traci,
Ha, no more Mir for me!!!

Ok, so here's the news about DH... well, turns out he's allergic to cats and even more to dust mites. He said he had strong allergic reactions to certain cats in the past, but he had never really reacted to my cat. So the allergy specialist told him he either had to remove all sources of allergy or learn to live with his symptoms. With Nasonex (nasal spray with a low dose of cortisone) his symptoms improved a GREAT deal. He no longer wakes up at night, and he doesn't have to take his meds every day.
But I still want to make the house a little more allergy-free for him. He doesn't want us to even consider giving my cat away. But starting today, she's no longer allowed upstairs. I'll have to figure out where to put her litterbox on the main floor (right now there's one downstairs and one on the second floor), but that's not the worst part. The only time we tried to forbid her access to the bedroom, she meowed real loud all night and never stopped. She was right at the door. She's been sleeping with me for 9 years, and given cats' natural temperament, she won't give in easily. But we'll put a barrier on the main floor for as long as it takes, until she figures out she's no longer allowed upstairs. And that way, even if she meows, we won't hear her as loudly.
And there's the dust mites. The fact we bought a leather couch will help a great deal. We did it for the baby, because the one we have is old and covered in fabric, and with two dogs and a cat I can let you imagine the amount of dust and pet hair it's collected over the years (no matter how hard you try, it's impossible to remove). We'll have to buy a special pillow for him, plus a new cover for the mattress... wash the bedsheets with hot water... and I'll check the internet for more tips. I'll also check options to change the covers of our dining room chairs. It might be a good idea to cover them with plastic anyway, for now, because somehow I expect spills in the next few years! Plus it would create a barrier for the dust mites. And I guess we'll have to vacuum or swiffer the place more often. Thank God he's not allergic to dogs...
So there you go. It's a new thing for me, because I only have food intolerances, not allergies per se. But I'll get all the info I can, and I'll figure it out.
Take care ladies, and have a great evening!
