Hi Everyone,

It sure sounds like you are all doing well and the babies are thriving. Dek is doing great. He eats everything we put in front of him - fruits, veggies, yogurt, oatmeal, rice cereal, and we are going to try smashed up egg yolk next week and maybe avocados soon just for some variety. He had his 6 month check (and shots) and he is 20 lbs 10 oz, 2.5 feet tall and has a huge noggin! He is doing well and his ear infection is clearing up. I am on spring break this week and he is in daycare so I am getting lots done around the house this week and actually feel like a real person.

Rio - I would just keep offering him the solids. I read somewhere that it can take up to 15 tries to get them to try/like a food. I think that if you offer him things he can't get from you (breast milk) he may be more likely to eat it. Also, I found that Declan likes to have just a few ounces of milk before he eats his solids and then will have a few more ounces of milk after. You may try that.

Tina - What kind of walker are you using?

Michele - I am so excited for you starting your cycle! Baby dust, baby dust, baby dust....... And Ella said Mama! How awesome. Oh, and about sippy cups and water - our daycare started giving him a few ounces out of a sippy cup and he is doing great with it. He doesn't have the control yet but seems to like the water.

Jomae - Can't believe your little Katie has teeth! Declan is drooling bunches and chews on everything and sometimes cries when he bites down so I know they are coming but so far I can't see anything.

loopie - You got a first word too! I can't tell if Declan has said anything or not but he does this fake cough to mimic my husband who has been coughing since February. We asked the doctor about his "cough" and the doctor said he was trying to communicate with DH because that is the sound he associates with him. Too funny!

I don't know who mentioned tummy sleeping, but all of a sudden Dek is sleeping on his tummy. I put him down on his back and for the longest time he would just turn on his side and sleep, but now he is flipping over on his tummy for the night. I tried flipping him back on his back, but he just turns himself over again. We keep a fan on in his room. Should I still be worred about SIDS, or has that passed? I am kinda assuming that if he can flip on his back, he can flip himself over if he needs to breath. Right? He is almost crawling so I know he is getting pretty strong.

Hope everyone has a great Easter holiday. DH has to work so Dek and I are going with Granny and some of my friends to dim sum for lunch and that's about it!

i would check with the pediatrician before eggs. I gave my first one eggs early but my last dd i was told not before 1yr old

Gecko- I was also told no eggs before 12 months due to possible allergies. The pediatrician also said no nuts, honey, peanut butter and strawberries or anything strawberry flavored...all because of allergies, so I would check on that too. But I also know that our parents gave us all that stuff and we are fine.

It was so funny, I was reading my brothers baby book the other day, he was born in 83, he is getting married and his future mom in law wanted pics, so we pulled out the baby book. Under milestones, it said he was off the bottle at 3 months, and table food at 4/5 months, I kid you not! My how things have changed!

I have a question about sippy cups again...I bought her a couple the other day, I went with playtex because it was the only one that said 4 months + and all the others said 9 or 12, it also said bpa free which I look for. Anyway, I put some water in it and give it to her and when she tries to drink from it, she is trying to suck it like a bottle and that doesn't work. Did it take your babies a little while to get it? How long? And are you using any specific type of cups that work better or your babies find easier?

Suga- omg, you start your day at 6? Your crazy, me and Ella are not early birds. She usually gets up around 8 for a bottle and then might stay up for an hour and goes back to sleep for about 2 hours (and I do too!). When people hear I have a baby they think I get up at the butt crack of dawn and then are suprised to hear we nap and mosey all morning. If I have to be anywhere before 11 or 12, it is a stretch.

Ok, my first injection is tomorrow...yippee! I will keep you all updated and thanks for all the babydust!

Gecko: I also heard no eggs before 1, but ask your doctor.

With the sippie cups, yes it is hard for them. The nipple is harder and the suck is way different. Mine hardly ever get a sip out because it is so different. They are learning though! They mostly chew on the bite thing. Have you found any other sippie cups with a softer nipple thing?

Michele: Are you kidding me? I can not make mine stay up past 6:45 at night!! I am more of a morning person though so it is ok. I could not have them awake that long at night. I am done with them at 7! lol. Good luck with your first injection! How exciting!!!!

suga- ella is up until usually around 9. I am definitely a night person, so it works for me, i don't usually go to sleep until midnight. As ella gets a little older I plan on adjusting her bedtime to a little earlier, I think most toddlers go to bet between 8 and 9.

my sippy cup is completely hard, nothing like a nipple, but it said it was for 4 months and up...which is ridiculous b/c i don't thing a 4 month old could use it, she is having trouble at 7 months. these are the ones I got:

Are they close to what everyone else is using? She loves the handles, but just isn't understanding sucking from it.

Michele: Those are the exact ones that I have! Same here, they are hard little things to suck out of for them. I had to laugh because my mom always had us in bed at 7PM until we were like out of elementary school!

look for transition cups walmart carries them they have soft rupper tops to help them learn to use a cup

CT- try the Munchkin brand, very soft silicone nipple and very easy for baby to hold, I bougght mine at target, he bites and sucks on it so a little comes out.
No luck with food or anything so far, hates the cereal, rice and oatmeal. Will try a bottle again. They said that he needs to have a bottle of formula or milk then solids but I am just trying to figure out a way where he won't starve at daycare!

rio- thanks! I went to target tonight and got the munchkin one you were talking about. And when I gave it to her tonight with water, she sucked and bit it, and some water came out. I think she is going to have to get used to water, she was a bit gaggy with it.

Does everyone else's babies gag? She gags with the water, and sometimes with certain foods, I think because of textures.

Ugghhh...Noah has something going on and I don't know if it is teething! Poor baby woke up crying twice last night and has had diarrhea for a few days now. I am taking him to the pedi today. My poor little guy. I don't know if it is a bug or not! Have any of your dealt with diarrhea??

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a nice Easter. Ours was nice and pretty quiet. It was funny that Katie's Easter basket was almost as big as her.

Katie had her four month appointment and she is 26 1/2" long, 14 lbs 4 oz and not sure of head measurement, but she is in 50 - 75% percentile for weight and head, and 97th percentile for height. This is quite amusing, because nobody on either side is really tall.

She was on her tummy on examining table, and Katie hates tummy time. But, she was trying to move w/ her legs. Once her arms get a little stronger, she will be crawling. The nurse said she will be crawling before she even rolls over. I need to give her more tummy time, as she has a little flat spot on her head from positioning and she hadn't rolled over yet, but soon.

I did have a concern, because she is batting at things now and spinning toys on her exersaucer, but she is using her right hand more than her left. I said that to the doctor and she said "That is not good, there should be no hand preference before 3 years old". She checked her out, and while there, Katie was putting both fists in her mouth and pulling her bib in her mouth w/ both hands. She said after checking that she didn't see any evidence or nerve damage and she was doing everything in the normal range for her age. I was quite upset. I don't think doctors know how they talk sometimes. She should have checked her before she said what she said. Don't get me wrong, I love my pediatrician's office, and every other doctor has been great. The doctor she has seen most often was way backed up, so I let her see this other doctor. And when Katie got her first cold at 3 1/2 weeks old, this same doctor also said things that made it seem so serious that it could be dangerous. Sometimes I don't think doctors know how their words affect new mothers, especially first time mothers. Of course, I googled hand preference, and what I found, is that a symptom of cerebral palsy is hand preference before one year old. CP also can result from breech, which Katie was. Of course, this worried me, but she has no other symptoms and after checking, the doctor did not seem to think there was any damage. I have decided not to worry about it, she does use her left hand some, just not as much and other people I know have told me their babies showed hand preference early as well.

I have a friend who had her baby at 26 weeks due to low amniotic fluid, and after 3 1/2 months, she is still struggling in the NICU and probably going to be in the NICU for a few more months. I don't think anything is wrong w/ Katie, but no matter what, I am thankful for a beautiful happy healthy baby.

Katie is just smiling at everything, except when she gets backed up. I have started 2 oz of apple juice twice a day per doctor's recommendation to try to get her regular. She gets backed up every once in awhile, and when she does, the gas gets trapped and she gets cranky. She is such a happy baby, that when she fusses like that, you know something is wrong.

Should be a zoo at my house this week, my brother from California is coming in w/ his wife and 2 year old daughter and 6 year old son. My other brother around here is getting married Sunday, and he and three of his five kids are staying at our house Saturday before wedding Sunday. Holy Guacamole, it will be hectic for us.

I hope you are all well, and it is so cool to see you all posting about teething, sippy cups and rolling over. These are all things we will be getting into soon. They grow so fast.

Loopie, if the rain ever stops here in MD, we will plan a time to meet.

Rio, good luck w/ solids and bottle. I stopped cereal when we were having a lot of gas issues, and then she got a cold. DR said to start again when she is over her cold, which she just about is.

kbear: If she has CP they would have said something by now. I mean those babies can not even put weight on their muscles even at an early age. I am sure she is fine! We just over analyze things being new mommies. At times, mine will use one hand more than the other (I think they did when they first started batting) but now they use them equally.

Mine have BAD colds. I am trying to call the doc. to get an appt. because now they are coughing so much they can not sleep and have a low grade fever...see, me being a scared mom thinks it is bronchitis! But I keep getting a busy tone! UGH! So hopefully they can be seen here in a day or so.

Hey Mommies!

I just wanted to thank you all for the baby dust you have been sending my way! It must be working. Today will be day 5 of stims and all is well. I went for a day 4 scan yesterday and they saw about 10 follicles which I expected since I had 11 at ER last time. Well after they got my bw yesterday, they reduced my dose and said I had to come back today. When I went back today, they saw about 22 follies! That is double from last cycle. They said it is good, but thet need to monitor carefully, so I may have to go everyday this week for u/s and bw. I will keep you all updated. I am so exhausted...I don;t remember feeling this tired last tired, but then again, I didn;t have a 7 month old at home last time either!

Kbear- dr's should be careful about how they say things, us first time moms are very sensitive and worry about everything. We are also blessed and cursed at the same time to have google. Sometimes it will ease you mind, and other times it can freak you out! Your katie is tall! Ella was 26 1/2 in at her 6mo3wk checkup and I thought she was tall!

tina- wish I could help with the poo problem, we actually have the opposite problem from diarrhea, constipation. I bet it is a bug, seems to be a lot going around right now.

suga- sorry to hear about the colds, hopefully you can get into see the doc soon.

Michele: WOW! Lots of follies! I will pray you do not have hyperstimulation! That sounds like a lot of eggs in there wanting to come out and give you babies!!! BABY DUST!! Keep us updated!

Ok so I took the girls to the doctor. Just bad colds at the moment. If their temp gets higher then come back. Brooke had some fluid on her ear but it is not infected yet so unless she gets a high fever or more fussy then she should be fine. So pray my little ones get well soon!

On another note, they were weighed and measured...8 months old

Mackenzie is 18 lbs and is 26 1/2 inches
Brooke is 17 lbs 10 oz and is 26 inches

I think Brooke weighs more but she was screaming and moving so much they could not get a good weight. So really, for being preemies they are doing great! Just a little short for their age but they will catch up by the time they are 2. So really they are "6" months. I am sure they will be tall though. I am 5'9 and DH is almost 6'1"
