NT scan

Post by Monkey Girl »

One more question - how many of you have decided whether or not to do the Nuchal Translucency Scan? We had decided against it a while ago, but I do hate to give up an opportunity to see the little one again at 3 months.... I also only got the one scan at 7 weeks and then nothing until the optional anatomy scan at 20 weeks.

Wishful & Monkey Girl- I'm right with you guys with the tiredness! I'm barely going on 7 weeks but have been so exhausted the past couple weeks! Now the morning sickness is creeping up! seems like i'll be starving but then when i eat, the nausea starts!

Hi ladies... Feeling a bit better today, but still exhausted. I've only vomitted once today, so I'll consider this a good day. We had our 8 week u/s today (actually 7w6d) and everything still looks good. My RE has released me to my regular OB/GYN. The baby is measuring one day ahead and the heartbeat went up to 165bpm. We are excited, but of course still cautious.

We had our 8 week ultrasound yesterday and everything looked great. We saw one little heart beating away at 170 beats per minute. We made our next appointments with OBGYN, very exciting to be transitioning over there! We meet with a nurse on August 5 and than our OBGYN Doctor on August 11.

It was so awesome hearing the heartbeat and just knowing that there really is a baby in there!!

Hi Ladies!! Great to hear that everyone is doing well. I am with those of you who are exhausted!! It is so hard to get going. I know that my empoyees are starting to notice that I have no energy. We might start telling at 10 weeks...What are y'all doing about telling?

No actual puking (thank God), but I feel nauseated a lot. I found some Ginger Chews at Target that seem to really help. We had our first OB appointment Monday. It was boring, no scan. :( Just some questions, a short physical exam and we were on our way. We go back in three weeks, with a dopplar scheduled. Can't wait to hear the heartbeat!!

MG- I will be interested to hear what everyone else says about the test?? We decided to schedule Nuchal Trans for 11 1/2 weeks. I think its set for August 21st. I am 35, and want to know as much as I can about my sweet baby. They are going to do the NT along with several other measurements and blood screening. It is the same effectiveness as the Quad Screen (2nd Tri), with fewer fasle-positives. Now just another thing to worry about....

I hope everyone has a great remainder of the week!!

Hi Ladies!

How is everyone? Let me guess… TIRED! Yeah, me too. Exhausted is more like it. It is worse now than 2 or 3 weeks ago, but hopefully will be getting better soon. I barely have enough energy to keep up with my 2.5 year old. He is always telling me “mommy, the baby is tired!” when he sees me lying on the couch.

Monkeygirl – congrats on the first signs of a belly! I keep trying to suck mine in at work, since I’m not telling until 12 weeks. I’ll be glad when I can “let it all hang out!”

Abogenpohl – how are you? I’m worried about you!

Daisy106 – So glad to see you’ve moved from the June/July thread! Welcome!

Baylorbear and Belle – Congrats on great scans. It makes you feel so wonderful, doesn’t it?

CK121- how goes the morning sickness?

Sabi – how is our twin mommy doing? You must be feeling all of this double!

Carolyn (Wishfull) – only 15 more days til your next scan… just what you need… another 2ww!

We have decided not to do the nuchal scan. I’d be too afraid to get a positive result, and since I refuse to have an amnio, I would worry for the next few months. Even though I am 36, the embryo was from when I was 32 so I feel like I am slightly less at risk. Since it is just a screening test and not a diagnostic, I’m one of those skeptics that would worry that I’d gotten the wrong result positive or negative. It is such a personal decision.

AFM – I have a cold right now which is making me even more tired, and not sleeping well at night. The nausea has gotten better, although out of the blue I threw up this morning which was a first. My next appointment is next week with my OB. I’ll be 11w2d. Assuming all goes well, we will start to tell people. Just our immediate family and my boss know at this point.

Hope all is well with you guys!

Hey everyone,

Not much different over here, aside from the queasiness that isn't too bad right now, and trying not to sleep all day....

Abogenpohl - Please check in when you can. We are concerned about how you and the little ones are doing. Take care!

CK - I know that feeling of being really hungry and needing food RIGHT NOW. But, unlike you, my nausea is actually solved as soon as I eat something. So, I try to always have something with me wherever I go. Even just an apple or carrots will work.

Julie and Daisy106 - I understand your different reasons for (not) getting the NT scan. We had decided against it, but when we found out that we won't get another scan until much later, I just felt better knowing I could have this scan at 12 weeks, so we booked it afterall - August 18th. Here they offer it to all pregnant women, regardless of history or age. So we are treating it as our "dating scan" which usually is done from 10-13 weeks from what I've read. I really don't want to know the results, though. We won't get an amnio or the further bloodtests, simply because we know we will proceed with this pregnancy regardless of who is inside there or what the tests would have shown. We are trying to be prepared for anything. I am 37, so certainly most women my age would probably do these tests.

Anyone else?

Hey Abogenpohl - sorry to hear about the loss of baby B, but it is so great that baby a is so strong and growing so well - what a nice thing to be able to see on the u/s!

abogenpohl - so sorry to hear about Baby B. It's tough to lose a baby at any point. Please stay strong for Baby A.

As for me, I vomitted for the 5th day in a row this morning. Not sure whether to be happy about this or miserable. I have been having lower back pain the past several days, so I am a bit concerned, but the continued sickness makes me feel a little better about the situation. I'm hoping it's just a growth spurt causing the back pain. I'm looking forward to the weekend so that I can get some much needed additional sleep. We see the OB/GYN on 8/14/09, which is only two weeks, but seems like an eternity.

Hope you all have a great day!

Baylorbear - I empathize with your vomiting and feeling sick, but I can't help but think that it's a good sign and say to keep trying to feel "good" about the feeling crappy!! I know the moment I haven't felt ill in a little while, I start to feel a little uneasy (which I know is sillY), and then a bit of nausea sets me straight again. I hope your vomiting slows down, though, so you can eat more again...

Hello everyone,
Daisy106-You asked about when we’re telling. I’ve told my closest family members and some of my closest friends. I’m a teacher so I’m not working right now and when I go back to work I’ll be through my first trimester which is when I was going to tell everyone else anyway.

Monkey Girl-You asked about the NT scan. We meet with our OBGYN doctor for the first time next week so I assume that will be discussed than. I actually had to go and read up on it after you posted because I wasn’t 100% on what it was. I don’t know what we’ll do because I do know about the amnio scan and I know I don’t want to do that. There’s no way we would terminate the pregnancy but I’m a person who likes to know everything so I can be prepared, I guess we’ll just see what options they give us and how it goes.

EYCI-Good luck with your appointment this week.

Abogenpohl-I’m so sorry to hear about baby b, I was afraid of bad news after you didn’t post right away. I’m so glad baby a is doing well. Take care of yourself.

AFM-We have an appointment with a nurse on Wednesday and than meet with our OBGYN doctor next week on Tuesday. I’m soooo hoping that our doctor will do another ultrasound. It will only have been 2 weeks since our last one but I just loving seeing that our little one is still there. I think he will because it’s the first time he’ll have seen us. My symptoms are basically the same and center on being very, very tired. I am seriously getting like 10 hours of sleep a night and than if I do anything during the day I need a nap. I’ve had some nausea but that seems to have tapered off, and I still haven’t thrown up. My hunger seems to have abated too and I’m having a harder time actually eating my whole meal, it feels like my stomach has shrunk.

Hello All,
I would love to join your group as my due date is March 27, 2010 however with the news we received today it may be earlier. I have been a member for awhile and posted a lot during my first IVF attempt which ended with a D&C at 9weeks. During our 2nd IVF cycle I sort of disconnected myself from the process because of how the first one ended.
Today my husband and I found out that we are pregnant with TRIPLETS!!! I know anything can happen as it is still early but thought it was a good time to join as I know how supportive everyone is on here. The U/S today showed HBs of 164, 161 & 113. One of the heart rates is a little lower than the doctor would like to see it so we will be going in again next week for another U/S. We are so thankful for the good news today but are also VERY nervous.

Hi Ladies!!

I hope everyone is doing well. I am with the tired people. The heartburn is killing me. I was on Prilosec before the pregnancy, so we knew it was going to be rough. I am hesitant to take anything other than Tums now.

Hopeful - Welcome! Nice to have you join us. Congratulations on triplets!! That is awesome. Relax and enjoy the ride. We are all pulling for you!

Belle - Great to hear you are doing so well. The first appointment with OB/GYN is such a happy feeling. It all begins to feel normal.

abogenpohl - You have a great attitude, and you are so blessed. Relax now and enjoy being pregnant. You have had a stressful time. Concentrate on staying healthy and taking good care of your growing babe.

Everyone have a great week! Get rest and try to convince DH to do all the cooking!
