Hi ladies,

where is everyone? I guess no news is good news! :-)

Main complaint these days: baaaaad back pain. I've been really miserable for the past few days. I am hoping its' just temporary but not holding my breath.

How are you guys doing in terms of weight gain? I've put on 16 lbs so far.

Anyone has had glucose test yet? WIll have it in 2 weeks.

Looking for some prenatal classes now.

Have a great weekend everyone and don't be strangers! :-)

Hi Nancy,
All is good here, except for having a neighbor who's completely freaked me out about the swine flu. I left a message for our County's Director of Health, since he's married to a co-worker :) She did tell me as soon as there's a vaccine, Pregnant women and students are to receive it first :)

I've gained about 10LBS and that was last week at 21 weeks. Not sure where that puts me in the scope of anything.......... I weighed in at 152 by the doc's scales and that was late afternoon. I've always heard the best time to weigh is first thing in the morning. But I don't own a scale, nor do I want to :)

I am also hoping that no news is good news! :)

As of yesterday I am now being treated for a (possible TMI) vaginal bacterial infection, which has been fun adding antibiotics that upset my stomach to a tummy that has not been stable since I started taking the hormone shots! Moral of the story: it is important to call with any "weird" smells or discharge, because I had been thinking they were going to blow it off as me overreacting to something normal and it wasn't.

The little puntmeister spent all of last week trampling on my bladder - thank goodness he flipped back around Monday so I have been getting a little reprieve from that! Still having to pee all the time (every hour on the hour last night) is still my main/worst symptom. Nancy, I don't think the back pain is going to get better until November! At which point, my sister maintains, it just moves down into the butt... ;)

I have either put on 16 or 20 pounds, depending on if my starting weight is before or after starting the fertility drugs. Yesterday I was 134 at exactly 25 weeks. I don't own a scale either, and have no intention of getting one!

Since I am (lucky me) allergic to corn I can't take the normal glucose test. Next week they are just going to do a fasting blood draw first thing in the morning, then again after I eat a regular meal. Given my age, general health, and lack of symptoms I don't think they're overly concerned. Just concerned that I'm some kind of moron who just randomly decided that I have a lot of allergies and haven't ever actually been to an allergist to have testing done. I have been seeing allergists since I was 10 when my mom finally realized that when I said peas made my mouth sting I wasn't just trying to avoid eating them! I haven't been to one since we moved two years ago, but I don't think when I'm pregnant is a good time to start running more tests or experimenting with changing my diet.

Just registered at Babies R Us last night. Fun!! How the heck is everybody else?

Hello, everyone! We're back from our trip and I'm happy to be home and happy that I felt good and had no complications while traveling. I had my glucose test done this week and my results were normal. However, I am slightly anemic so I'm to start taking an iron supplement.

So far I've gained about 17 lbs. and am now at 122 lbs. Our little guy seems to be growing leaps and bounds, as does my belly! I'm approaching 26 weeks this Sunday. I keep wondering how my belly can possibly keep growing bigger and bigger, but with 3 months to go, I surely know it will. :-)

So far no back pain for me except for my usual back pain which is an SI joint issue. It was a concern for me thinking it may cause me lots more problems but so far so good.

I sure miss having regular ultrasounds. Will any of you get to keep having regular u/s throughout the rest of your pregnancy?

Take care, all!

hi ladies

well I was admitted to the hospital on july 20 and am still here. our regular ultrasound on the 20th showed the cervix had shortened from 5 cm to .6 in just four weeks. I was days away from going into pre-term labor at 22 weeks and would have lost the twins. they put me in the hospital that night, and I've been here since.

The first few nights were the most terrifying nights of my life. We didn't know if they could save the pregnancy. After two days of being on meds my OB decided she could put a cerclage in and hope for the best. She managed to get it in, though not high up considering the thinness of the cervix.

I am on bedrest for the duration of the pregnancy, and was put on a terbutaline pump. Terbutaline is a medication that helps keep any contractions under control.

There is no way to tell how long the cerclage will hold, as the weight from the growing babies will eventually be too much. But for now, it looks okay and we are grateful for every day that passes by without anything going wrong. Monday puts us at 24 weeks so we have a long way to go, but every week that we get through gets us closer to a point where the twins won't be born so premature.

The only good thing through this all is that they seem to be unaffected by it all, and are moving like crazy and have strong heartbeats. Now we just have to hope they stay in there long enough.

Just wanted to update you all. I miss chatting with you and hope when I get home (if I ever get sent home) that I can post some more.

take care of yourselves!

aspotofTea - Oh my! I guess no news isn't always good news!! I can't even imagine how stressful and traumatic that must have been for you and your husband. Glad to hear that both of the babies are doing well in there. Thank god they were monitoring you closely enough to catch that in time. We are all thinking of you and wishing all four of you the best. Sounds like a good time to invest in a laptop?? Take care!

Hi aspotoftea,

hang in there girl! We are all praying for you! If you hang in there for another 3-4 weeks, althgough they will be premature and need intervention, they will be ok. In the past week or so, I had 2 patients telling me they had delivered at 6.5 months. One of the kids, I already know and he is a thriving 21 year old now! :-) The other one is doing really well too and had a baby of her own a few months ago.

Keep your spirits up and remember that it's great they figured out there was a problem early on so that they can take precautions.

I myself have been in bed for 2 days with excrutiating back pain. WIll not be able to go to work for the remainder of the week probably. I can't sit or stand up, unless I am walking. Just hoping it will slowly subside....

Take care apotoftea and keep us informed. I will check my e-mails daily.
Love,
NAncy

Nancy - I hope your back pain eases soon. The pain is totally from being pregnant or did you also have back problems before becoming pregnant?

I do find it harder and harder to get comfortable in bed. Lying on my side for too long causes my hip to start hurting, but I know it's not good to lie on your back either so I do a lot of tossing and turning through the night. Anyone else having these issues?

okay so they felt that i was stable enough to come home yesterday. It was so great to be in my own bed after two weeks, and just be in my own home. I even teared up when i poked my head into the nursery.

I am still on strict bedrest and will be for the duration, but at least I can be home instead of in the hospital.

Now we wait and will these two to stay put. An U/s on Sunday showed they are doing well- the girl is 1 lb 10 oz and the boy is 1 lb 5 oz. And to everyone's surprise, the cervix actually thickened a bit to 1.4 from .6 so that's an added bonus.

Thank you all for your positive thoughts.

Nancy so sorry to hear about the back pain! take it easy and hope you feel better!

glad it seems the rest of you are doing well. we are all getting closer to the big arrivals!

Hi Aspotoftea,

I am glad that all is well with you!! And it's great that you are back home!
I think being in the confort of your own home will make the bedrest A LOT MORE TOLERABLE!! :-)
It's great that the twins are doing good!!! Just take it easy! As you said, you are getting closer and closer to the final stretch! How far along are you?

Thanks for the well-wishes for the back. I am trying to hang in there. I am now able to get up on my own at least but can't bend or pick up anything from the floor which is reallly frustrating. But as you said, as long as my peanut is ok, I'll just put up with it.

Take care and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Hugs,
Nancy

Hi all. So sorry I have been MIA.

Aspotoftea - so glad you are home and all seems to be going as well as it can. Everyone keeps telling me to enjoy the quiet before the baby gets here - I never really get it, but I figure they know more than I do. So maybe a bright side is that you get lots of rest before you have to be up all night.

Nancy - so sorry about the back pain - none for me (yet), but hang in there!

Instead of back pain, I have been dealing with all these other gross and achy downsides of pregnancy. My feet, especially my heels have been killing me - my OB sent me to a podiatrist and I am having orthodics made. I have never had foot pain in my life and it is unbearable. Until the orthodics come, the doctor's best advice was that I wear heels to keep the pressure off of my heels and on the balls of my feet. Everyone thinks I am some miracle hot mama wearing heels late in pregnancy and I cannot believe how many people have commented. Little do they know my real motives!

Then stretch marks have arrived in force. They look like cat scratches on the sides of my hips and the bottom half of my boobs (which are so huge I hardly recognize them - I am on my third set pregnancy bras as I keep needing bigger sizes!)

Then came the constipation. Fruit, fiber cereal, Fiber supplements - nothing was helping. I finally got over it - and on came the hemmroids. I had heard that half of pregnant women get them, but think I was in denial - well, no more! They are just a little uncomfortable, but going down. Really fun stuff.

The only thing I have lost is my teenage acne, which I never even had as a teenager so it was all new for me. My skin is finally clear - though I would trade the hemroids for the pimples any day!

My doctor actually put it into perspective when he said "You have a life growing inside of you and you seriously expected your body to be exactly the same!!?!?" Good point doc!

I am still going in for ultrasounds once every two weeks, which is a lot, but nice to see the baby and hear the heartbeat. All looks good. Passed my glucose test last week, which was a relief.

And registered at a boutique baby store in town and at Babies R Us (with my mom and close friend - that was fun!)

Sorry for the long post - just had to vent and wanted to catch up!

aspotofTea - Glad to see that you are home and things are looking better. Hopefully what all the veteran moms have been telling me is true and these last few months will "fly by."

nancy1 - So sorry about your back. So far just my neck and shoulders are really bad, though taking my dog to her first night of obedience school last night didn't help my lower back much! Can't believe I signed on for 7 weeks of that at this point in my pregnancy, but better to get her trained now than once the baby is born...

excited-in-la - Good to hear from you! I had already noticed that I felt more comfortable wearing my usual heels instead of flats. Nice to know doctors back that up! Wow, they are giving you a lot of ultrasounds. I haven't had one since 19 weeks, and didn't really expect to get another one.

However at my appointment today I was measuring 3 cm large for my fundal measurement so they want to go in for an ultrasound some time next week. I'm still waiting for them to call me back with an exact time. The doctor didn't seem too worried, but of course I am even knowing how inexact those measurements are. I am also trying to cope with the sudden death of a family member this week, so I really could have used an "everything looks normal" kind of visit!

Anyway, at least the weather here is finally beautiful. I hope everybody is getting ready to have as fun and relaxing a weekend as they can!!

Wondercat. I am sorry about your family's loss. If the doctor does not seem worried, that is a great sign. I know waiting for the ultrasound can seem like an eternity, but hang in there and enjoy the nice weather :)

Excited: Hemorrhoids. Not fun for sure!!! I had those a few weeks ago but now it's gone. Drinking a lot of water really helped me a lot. As for the orthotics, they really help. I had them made a few years ago while training for the LA marathon and it not only helped my feet but also with my posture which relieved also my spine. The only down side was that it didn't fit in all my shoes. I needed at least 1 size bigger shoes for them.

Wondercat: my condolences on your loss. And I wish you best of luck on your unltrasound. As you said, if the doctor is not worried, then oyu shouldn't either. Keep us posted!!!

My back is finally feeling a bit better. I was able to work on Friday, although by the time I got to my last patient, I was really ready to call it a day! Today, I purchased a maternity support belt; boy it helps!!! And believe me, it's not just placebo! I got it from destination maternity.

I will be going for my glucose test in a week, so I look forward to the doctor cheking things out for relief.

I have not yet made any purchases! I am going to wait for another 3 weeks and then hit the road for shopping. I guess I am being really cautious, and though it's not really in my nature, superstitious about it, probably due to the loss of one of the twins early in my pregnancy.

Anyhow, I wish you all a great weekend.
