Hi girlies!! Hope all had a good Turkey day. got all my Christmas decorations up and am really getting into the mood for Christmas. My youngest dd (age 1) has hit a clingy stage and it has not been fun trying to get ready for work in the morning. I really just want to sit down and hold her (which I did this morning, and was almost late for work). I know this stage will pass, part of me just wants to keep her little, and part of me just wants her to get bigger. I am blessed with my girls.

Happy Birthday J&C and lou!. The big 37.......don't forget that the 40's is the new 20's (I am creeping up on my 39 in March, so I keep telling myself that).

bei,

You went SHOPPING on Black Friday????? Are you crazy? my hat is off to you, there is no way I went anywhere close to town on the weekend after Thanksgiving. Don't worry about bcp, I will not even see my RE until 1/5/10. I have the same insurance issues, so I cannot get moving until after the 1st. I am not sure if they will put me on bcp before starting FET, so I will just have to wait and see.

BlessedMama,

welcome. are you taking bcp now or where are you at in your cycle?

moorebaby,

I will keep my fingers crossed that your dh gets good news. Keep us posted.

kim14,

I understand your dilemma on the FET or fresh. If you have the snow babies, I would say give them a chance. It "normally" is less stressful, however your last cycle didn't work out. It financially is less expensive (however with all the extra monitoring and meds for your last, I'm sure it was more expensive than normal). I would talk to doc and see it they have other ideas for another FET to thicken your lining. Do you have a consult set up?

Just a quick update. Just got call from doc's ofc. They are going to put me on bcp, so I will be ready to roll on 1/5/10. I guess my dh and I have to have the infectious labs done again before having FET. Who would have thought we would have to have labs done again, when we had it done before doing the fresh IVF. Its not like anything has changed for he or I. Oh well, I will just have to suck it up and get poked. You would think after giving myself shots and all the blood draws that it wouldn't bother me. The shots to myself don't, but I cannot stand to have them take blood. Maybe because I don't have good veins. Ok, enough whining for me. On the positive, I feel like I am moving forward.

After talking with the nurse, she said I would start estrace and on day 13, go for lining check, (in january) and then take Prometrium, then on 4th day of Prometrium, do the transfer. OMG, its starting.

Arabsrcool: YAY!! That's so exciting (the moving forward part, not the b/w part!). I hear you about not having good veins. DH and I also had to update our infectious disease tests for our upcoming FET. It took the lab FOUR pokes and TWO people to draw my blood. Good grief. I thought I was going to pass out after all of that!

Again, sorry to be so brief. My life is CRAZY at the moment, but I really want to try to put together a Jan/Feb schedule "soon". I think it will help to see where everyone's at!

Bye!

Oh - I'm a total wimp with the blood draws and any needles. In fact, DH gives me all of my shots. I just can't bring myself to do it. On our last cycle, it took them 3 tries and 2 nurses to get blood from me once. Of course I'm a big baby and bawled after the first poke. I'm talking some serious bawling. I hate needles with a passion!! Soooooooooo that makes me really appreciate that I don't have any shots tonight, or anytime soon.

On another note, I just got back from a wonderful massage. If I had all of the money in the world, I'd get a massage a week. Just love them. I'm going to Cheesecake Factory for dinner tomorrow night, and I'm definitely looking forward to that as well. It's been a good week already, and it's only Monday night. Whew-hew!!!! :D

Second Cycle

Post by sachi »

Hello Everyone,

This is my first time joining any forum to discuss my trial and tribulations of trying to conceive for the past two years. I am 36 years old and after 3 unsuccessful IUIs using Clomid, so we decided to try for IVF this past November. Out of the 10 embryos fertilized, I had 3 good embies and only 2 were transferred and 1 is being frozen. I really had high hopes that IVF will work given it's higher probability. Also my husband and I have taken every recommended tests (Sperm DNA, PGD, HSG, all kinds of blood work) and doctors did find anything wrong with either of us.

But when the 2nd BETA HCG test came back negative, the news was too hard to take the day before Thanksgiving. My husband and I couldn't find anything to be thankful this season. I went through guilt, disbelief, depression and anger for the last week or so but when I read this forum, it is great to see so many of you have tried again and able to keep your hopes high despite so many unsuccesses. I truly admire that spirit. You are all so right, if you lose hope, then you lose everything.

I am debating if we should proceed with the frozen embryo transfer with the 1 remaining or should I start a fresh cycle? Obviously cost is a major factor with starting a new cycle but at this point we want to know our best option. Luckily our insurance covers 80%. I was wondering if any of you can share experience with FET or any suggestions when going through a 2nd IVF cycle? Thank you for sharing all your stories.

sachi - Welcome to the board!!! After our 1st IVF, we had 1 frozen embie and 1 DD born from that cycle. In October of this year, we decided to do another fresh IVF cycle since we only had 1 frozen embie. Even though it resulted in a BFN, we were able to freeze 3 embies. So - we'll be doing our first FET in February. We also did 2 fresh cycles back to back as we had a cap on our insurance. So it was more financially beneficial to complete a second fresh cycle than to do the FET, if that makes sense. I hope that helps.

gi - HOLY COW!!!! 8 test tubes. You go girl.

AFM - AF arrived today, which means that we'll wait for AF to arrive again mid-January (my cycles are long) which is when we'll start the FET process. I'm anxious to get this ball on the roll!!!

Happy Tuesday!

ok ladies...so here's the update.

my hubby had his appointment with the infertility/urologist specialist. the news we got is better than what we thought. 1st of all, he said that because my dh only has 1 undescended testicle he's ok since his other testicle is ok. the doctor seems to think that my dh's hormone levels, especially testosterone, are off & that can be contributing to the male infertility. he ordered lab work & based on the results he may give him medication. of course, he said the meds won't help 100% because his 1 undescended testicle will always contribute to the issue of male infertility. he was taken back as to why our re suggested we use donor sperm in our next cycle. he said that he has seen situations with male infertility that were way worse & things have worked out for those people. he stated that ivf statistically doesn't always work the 1st time, even for couples who are in better situations than we are. he said that we should go ahead with our next cycle in january without any kind of invasive treament on my hubby (TESA, MESA, etc.). He has a follow-up appointment on december 21st, so we'll know more since he will have the lab results.

we also have an appointment with our re next wednesday. dh is going to get the lab work done on thursday or friday, so the results can be reported to the urologist & then sent over to the re before our appointment.

i'm thinking mentioning the donor sperm thing may be protocol for the clinic. maybe everytime a couple has an unsuccessful ivf cycle, they "have" to mention it. who knows?

hello

Post by kim14 »

Hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving.

Bei - i will be on bcp with in jan with you. I used apri our last 3 tries and it made be crazy. my husband feared it :-) so im trying ortho novum next time.

sachi and arab - ya i hear ya on the bloodwork - my re requires it for each pregnancy so we had to do it again. $500 each - insurance wont pay for it. Ouch in more ways than one....

We have desided not to do another fet since my last one was canceled. My re said we have more than double the chance of a fresh cycle working. This is not to discourage anyone doing an fet - you may have more and better embries than we have - so we are going to go through the whole pain in the butt (literally :-) cycle in jan/feb. I wish i could start earlier but they want me to have 2 periods first.

moore - we did icsi and my dh did a pesa - very easy procedure - and we have a beautiful son - so hang in there...

Anyway, i think its great that we will all get to have a nice holiday before starting our cycles and then hopefully we will have thanksgiving/christmas babies :-)

Hi girls! Glad to hear I am not the only wimp when it comes to blood draws. I also need to figure out if insurance will pay for infectious testing. I know I don't have any coverage for infertility treatment (I maxed that baby out quite awhile ago), but I am wondering if they will cover the testing b/c it could just be for my peace of mind for all they know. Any thoughts on a way to ask the insurance company without tipping them off its for a coming FET?

Kim14,

Glad you decided on the fresh or frozen cycle. That has to put your mind at ease just having made a decision.

moorebaby,

Glad to hear the news was better than you thought for dh. Now you are getting somewhere. Its also encouraging that the Urologist didn't see a need for donor sperm.

gi,

8 tubes?????Is that right. I think I would have passed out right there.
