Firstly, I want to thank all of you for your lovely posts, cards, presents, flowers.....I truly felt like a celebrity - in fact the nurses did say I got more post than anyone else on the ward!!!
Well I know my lovely husband has been posting (I told him he had to help keep my posts up - am I still 3rd??) I thought I'd give you a quick update:
I was 'released' from hospital on Friday after the blood transfusion (which I reluctantly agreed to - after hitting rock bottom and being so poorly I couldn't function!) This is my first week of trying to establish a routine, I visit the hospital at 11am each day and stay there all day until dh comes in the evening at about 6pm and then we come home together at 8pm, have something to eat and then go to bed........get up and do it all again. Except in between I'm expressing every three hours (I'm up to 100ml at the mo - which just about keeps them going, with a bit of a cow & gate chaser every now and then!)
Update on the girls:
Florrie was transferred to a cot yesterday! This is a huge leap forward in progress because it means she can control her own temperature and doesn't rely on the heat of an incubator. Millie is still in her inc but the nurses hope she should upgrade to a cot by the end of the week - she needs to reach 2kg and she is about 1.7kg at the mo and putting an average 30g each day. Please don't ask me to convert - I get sooooooo confused!!!
The other thing that needs to be established before they can come home is their feeding. Amelia is better at this, she guzzles her bottles down - especially EBM (Expressed Breast Milk). Although she is not keen on a bottle at night - she prefers her sleep. The nurses reckon she might just be one of these babies that prefer to sleep through the night and feed during the day - please please please! After all I've been through I deserve a sleeping baby!!! Florence is also drinking from the bottle but again she is so laid back - she always feeds with her eyes shut because she tends to be asleep most of the time! I'm sure this luck of having such chilled out babies won't last!
The hospital reckon they should be home in the next 2-4weeks depending on their progress.
Update on me:
Well I'm feeling much better since the blood transfusion. My iron levels are still very low (9.6) but its a huge improvement on the 6.8 after the op. I won't go into details about the birth (unless you want me to - I know its only me that likes details!!) suffice to say I lost lots of blood about 2litres in total and it wasn't the ideal birth. But hey, the girls are here and doing well and I couldn't ask for more. Whoever said the too posh to push route was an easy option, was lying! Its now nearly two weeks after the op and I'm still desperately relying on my pain killers and can't turn over in bed! I'm still very sore and amazed at how awful my body looks. But again, I just look at the girls and think its all worth it!
My days are so hectic I barely have time to eat. I spend all day with the girls and in between try and get things sorted at home. Dh has been great sorting things out - putting up cots, painting the nursery etc, but there is still so much sorting out that needs doing. I thought at 27 weeks I had lots of time left to get things done, little did I know I would spend the last two months in hospital!!!
The worst bit is not being able to drive!!! I have to rely on lifts or like today a taxi (£15 each way to the hospital!!) Its so frustrating. Suspect I'll cheat and start driving before I'm 'allowed'. They say six weeks and I've only done 12 days, I'll see how I am next week and all being well go for it then.
Well I'd better go and have a shower and get sorted before my chauffeur arrives!
I hope you are ALL ok and doing well - it will take me ages to catch up on where you all are up to. I'll hopefully have a look tonight when I get back!
Lots of love to everyone.
