Hello - I'm back!!!!!!!

Post by Nikola »

Hello everyone!!!!

Firstly, I want to thank all of you for your lovely posts, cards, presents, flowers.....I truly felt like a celebrity - in fact the nurses did say I got more post than anyone else on the ward!!!

Well I know my lovely husband has been posting (I told him he had to help keep my posts up - am I still 3rd??) I thought I'd give you a quick update:

I was 'released' from hospital on Friday after the blood transfusion (which I reluctantly agreed to - after hitting rock bottom and being so poorly I couldn't function!) This is my first week of trying to establish a routine, I visit the hospital at 11am each day and stay there all day until dh comes in the evening at about 6pm and then we come home together at 8pm, have something to eat and then go to bed........get up and do it all again. Except in between I'm expressing every three hours (I'm up to 100ml at the mo - which just about keeps them going, with a bit of a cow & gate chaser every now and then!)

Update on the girls:

Florrie was transferred to a cot yesterday! This is a huge leap forward in progress because it means she can control her own temperature and doesn't rely on the heat of an incubator. Millie is still in her inc but the nurses hope she should upgrade to a cot by the end of the week - she needs to reach 2kg and she is about 1.7kg at the mo and putting an average 30g each day. Please don't ask me to convert - I get sooooooo confused!!!

The other thing that needs to be established before they can come home is their feeding. Amelia is better at this, she guzzles her bottles down - especially EBM (Expressed Breast Milk). Although she is not keen on a bottle at night - she prefers her sleep. The nurses reckon she might just be one of these babies that prefer to sleep through the night and feed during the day - please please please! After all I've been through I deserve a sleeping baby!!! Florence is also drinking from the bottle but again she is so laid back - she always feeds with her eyes shut because she tends to be asleep most of the time! I'm sure this luck of having such chilled out babies won't last!

The hospital reckon they should be home in the next 2-4weeks depending on their progress.

Update on me:

Well I'm feeling much better since the blood transfusion. My iron levels are still very low (9.6) but its a huge improvement on the 6.8 after the op. I won't go into details about the birth (unless you want me to - I know its only me that likes details!!) suffice to say I lost lots of blood about 2litres in total and it wasn't the ideal birth. But hey, the girls are here and doing well and I couldn't ask for more. Whoever said the too posh to push route was an easy option, was lying! Its now nearly two weeks after the op and I'm still desperately relying on my pain killers and can't turn over in bed! I'm still very sore and amazed at how awful my body looks. But again, I just look at the girls and think its all worth it!

My days are so hectic I barely have time to eat. I spend all day with the girls and in between try and get things sorted at home. Dh has been great sorting things out - putting up cots, painting the nursery etc, but there is still so much sorting out that needs doing. I thought at 27 weeks I had lots of time left to get things done, little did I know I would spend the last two months in hospital!!!

The worst bit is not being able to drive!!! I have to rely on lifts or like today a taxi (£15 each way to the hospital!!) Its so frustrating. Suspect I'll cheat and start driving before I'm 'allowed'. They say six weeks and I've only done 12 days, I'll see how I am next week and all being well go for it then.

Well I'd better go and have a shower and get sorted before my chauffeur arrives!

I hope you are ALL ok and doing well - it will take me ages to catch up on where you all are up to. I'll hopefully have a look tonight when I get back!

Lots of love to everyone.

Glad to have you back Nikola. It sounds like you've been through quite a time of it, but as you say, it's all worth it when you look at those two beautiful little girls.

Hope you're soon on the mend, and that Florrie and Millie are home with you and your hubby very soon.

How wonderful to hear you are home and the girls are thriving. I've loved reading all the updates from Tracey and your DH who did a great job in telling us about the birth. I would be interested to know why you needed a general and not just a local anesthestic to give birth. How many weeks were you when they were born?

Good luck to you all, helen :D

Hi Nikola,

Welcome back and I must say I have missed ya loads and loads ((( hugs ))) for everything you have been through, but when you look at your beautiful babies you do forget everything you have been through, I was exactly the same when I had Alex, I had a rough time but he's here and he is well worth it.

I can imagine that you must be tired but you do have to take things steady and please don't rush into driving, I checked this with my insurance company I had to have the all clear off the doctor before I could drive and the insurance company said if I hadn't of had the all clear and I had a bump in my car then the insurance would be void so its worth checking out.

Oh and by the way you are 3rd I seem of dropped back to be honest I don't get much chance to get online these days, when Alex is asleep I try and catch up on all my jobs and don't stop but I ain't complaining.

Love & Hugs
and give the little ones a kiss from me & Alex.
Shell.

Hi Nikola,
I am so glad to hear you are back and the babies are doing well. Sounds like the birth was quite an ordeal (I would be happy with the details if you can be bothered with them!), you are so brave to have gone through it and kept your spirits, your posting sounds pretty good for someone who lost all this blood. i do hope you will improve soon and that your two girls will be growing as fast as possible.
love and once again my warmest congratulations!

Dear Nikola

So lovely to have you back, and glad that you are on the mend and the girls are doing well! Its not been the same without you!
A little word of warning though re the driving, when I had my laparotomy(similar cut to a hyserectomy or c section) I was told the same, however I am not very good at following orders either and drove, only to find out if I had an accident my ins would have been void...so my friend try to do as they say!
Welcome back and take care!
Much love,

Lovely to see you back here. You're doing well to fit time to post in with everything else. It sounds like your two gorgeous girls are doing well. I bet you can't wait to have them home with you.

As for you, take care of yourself. I can imagine that life's pretty hectic at the moment but you need to find time for you to recover from major surgery. As for the driving, I know that some insurance companies will give you permission to drive before 6 weeks if your GP gives you the OK.

Take care and give Florrie and Millie a hug from us (especially from Daniel, big flirt that he is!).

Love Jules

Hey Nik,

Great to read you're post, and glad things are going well - the girls sound like they're doing great and at that rate, they will be home soon.

Take it easy though - I know what it's like with the routine of trapsing to the hospital having gone through it with Sam - it's hard work and towards the end we had to be strict with ourselves with how long we went in for as we were both wrecked - it was hard as we felt so guilty leaving him for any time, but you need to be at the best you can be for when they come home. Does it all seem real yet???? Nearly 12 weeks on and we still can't with Sam!!!

You take care now, and give your gorgeous girls a kiss from me and Sam!
