I think that depends on your employer (talk w/ your RE and your supervisor at work). I know the hospital I used to work at as a RN wouldn’t allow me to have that much time off but I worked in the ICU and they considered that mission essential (not unless I used my vacation time). But, be careful not to use up all your time because you might need it later (doc appoints, too much nausea, etc)! It would be nice if your employer allows you to be off, so you can be in an environment w/ less stress as a hospital. There is also family leave Act that you can investigate if you feel the need to (that info is usually w/ the HR department).

Every RE is different because there is still some debate whether bed rest makes a difference regarding the pregnancy outcome but you have to do what makes you feel comfortable. My RE doesn’t think I need bed rest but I am taking three days off from work anyway and when I go back I will be on light duty.

If worse come to worse, you can also ask to be put on light duty and have your RE write a letter to your employer if they make a big deal about taking so much time off. I’m sure they will find something for you to do!

Good luck,

Angela

If it were me, I would request the time off. Only because you are spending so much time and money on the process that it is worth it. I would also see about asking for lighter duty if possible. I don't work, but I believe resting more for longer helped me after two failed IVF attempts prior. Good luck!

Hi there! Yes, the waiting game is tough, especially the first tmt! :D

The studies I have read concluded that bedrest doesn,t make any difference. Some observed that it can do more harm than good, because of the risk of developing clots (you know that, since you work in a hospital) and because the blood flow is disrupted given that you move less, and that might affect nesting/implantation (that's why so many clinics prescribe baby aspirin during IVF or FET, it does make a difference). So bedrest is a no-no for me, and for the clinic too. It's 1 hour of bedrest at the clinic after transfer, and off you go. They only advise you to take the day off and stop exercising until you see a heartbeat. I took public transportation right after I left the clinic, I worked as usual, I went for walks and I led a normal life and I still became pregnant twice with FET.

That being said, I agree with the others: you do need to rest more than usual after your embies come back home. We only get to give it a few tries, might as well give ourselves all the chance we can. Generally, it is advised not to lift anything that weighs more than 5 pounds when you're pregnant, so it also applies for the 2ww. Your profession involves physical work, so you definitely have leverage to discuss the situation with your supervisor and your doctor.

Good luck! :)
