Hi Sonja. Thanks for your question. It got me thinking, because I have no idea when my clinic does the first ultrasound. I am currently in my 2WW and guess I have truly been taking this just one step at a time and haven't even given it a thought. I don't even have my HCG test scheduled yet! I guess I just a rookie with the whole thing. I'm going to call my clinic Monday and get the ball rolling. I am an ultrasound tech though, so I have a small advantage in that I wouldn't have to wait for my first clinic ultrasound to sneak a peak. :D

I had another gf who was ttc and when she got pregnant she did a bunch of u/s on herself. LOL at least she didn't have to wait or worry. my sil works at a vet clinic and I have been tempted.... your beta is usually 14 dpo ... and as you can see, the u/s range a lot in when they are done. good luck!

Sonya - Congratulations on your BFP. My clinic provided an ultrasound around 7 ½ weeks to make sure I would have a HB but during my first IVF cycle I started to experience some spotting so I had a u/s around 5 ½ weeks.

What is it about IVF pregnancies that causes bleeding to be common? I bled until I was 7 weeks -- sometimes bright red and heavy. It's abated, for now, but I am curious as to the causes in the 1st place.

Many follicles develop during ovarian stimulation. These follicles each make estradiol. In a natural cycle, there is only one follicle, but in a stimulated cycle there are many. They make a lot more estradiol than is normal (physiologic). One role of estradiol is to thicken the endometrium, and these supraphysiological estradiol levels cause the endometrium to become much thicker than usual. The patient has more endometrium to lose. This is also the reason why the first period after an IVF cycle is associated with very heavy flow.

Bleeding will be even more common if no estradiol supplement is given during the pregnancy. These supplements don't necessarily help success rates, but they do seem to reduce bleeding.

Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

My clinic does not do the first ultrasound. We start with the second one.

In case you are wondering, yes, that is humor.

Makes sense, Ghost. I did have a lot of follicles (and E2 at 7500 on trigger day), so that explanation sure fits. Thanks.
