Hi ladies

PA_FA-You are now due 2 days before me. Odd how they can change the date considering that we were all on such strict scedules that we can narrow down the hour we got pregnant!

Purple-Thanks for the tips! I appreciate it. I met a lady at the doctors today who had twins last year and she went so far as to wake one baby up when the twins nap time was over! She said it only took a month or so to get them on the same nap schedule.

AFM-Pretty discouraged today. Just got the results of my gestational diabetes test......not good :( In fact my levels were so high that they dont even want me to do the 3 hour and I'm going to see a specialist on Wednesday to learn how to monitor and get a new diet to follow. I'm also somewhat anemic now! Have to take some iron supplements and get re-tested to see if that helps. Not the best news I could have got today. I'm just so afraid of what affect this will have on my babies. I would hate to have them get diabetes or some other health problems because of something I did. Here I was thinking I was eating all the right things!

Hope all is well with everyone! Any mom's who have any Gestational Dibetes diet tips Im all ears!!

Kitty - sorry to hear about your rough day! It is not your fault that you have gestational diabetes or are anemic. There is nothing you could have done to prevent it, so don't beat yourself up over it. Being anemic is pretty common, I wouldn't stress about that. The sheet the doctor gave me said 80% of pregnant women are anemic (including me!). Gestational diabetes is also common, especially with multiples. Just making sure, you didn't eat or drink anything sugary before or during your test, right? (I know this seems obvious, but I had a friend who ate a candy bar right before her test). Just make sure you stick to the diet that they give you and you and your babies should be great! I am sure the doctor will monitor you closely to make sure you and the babies are all healthy. I know it is not what you are hoping to hear at the doctor's, but the good news is that they caught it so they can make sure they are doing everything they can for you and your babies.

Keep your spirits up and keep imaging the end result, you bringing home two healthy babies! It will happen!

Hi Everyone! It's been awhile. I hope everyone is doing well! I can't believe it's November!?!

Let's see if I can catch up on some personals!:

PurpleFish - I can't believe how far along we all are, it is so close. I hope to deliver between 36 and 38 weeks which would be anytime between Jan 17 and Feb 6, but if I'm being perfectly honest I would prefer to have them after Jan 20 so they'll be an Aquarius (like me!) and before Feb 2 within the Year of the Tiger (like me!) - I know it sounds silly, but I can dream!
Thanks for your tips on the twin schedules regarding feeding and sleeping. My SIL had twins last year and said getting them on the same schedule should be my #1 priority! I really want to breastfeed and I plan on feeding them simultaneously. As you so noted, it's hard to find information and support regarding breastfeeding multiples so I think it's great that you want to be a lactation nurse for multiples, after all you'll have gone through it twice! I received "My Brest Friend" pillow for twins from my registry so I setting myself up for success! :)

Kitty_mom - my pregnancy twin, I am so sorry to hear about your gestational diabetes and anemia. I'm glad they are catching all of this though and that you are getting support and guidance so that you and those twins stay healthy. I know it can't be easy, so know that we're all here to support you! I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow to help you acclimate to the changes you have to make with your diet. By the way, regarding a previous post you made, I too go into our babies room often just to look at their little clothes too. Usually right when I get up in the morning and several time in the evening! It's so much fun. The babies' room is slowly coming together. I just have to find storage space for all my craft hobbies and then the room will be cleared for all their stuff. I don't even know if/when I'll ever get back to my album making/scrapbooking.........

PA_FA - How are you? You've been done working for almost a month now, right? How is that going? I am happy you had a trip to NYC and got to see Wicked, how fun! I <3 NY, I would love to go back there soon. We were there last summer.
Oh, and what's up with the perinatalogist moving up your due date!?! I hope you're still saying it's a Valentine's Day baby :)

Jenice - How have you been preparing since you found out you're having a boy!?! I have to say that I love all the little boy clothes that I've received. I love seeing baby boys dressed like miniature men. So many of my friends have had little boys in the last year so his side of the closet it filling up. Although I don't mind buying little girl clothes to even out the closets :P

Julia_78 - My husband and I have recently come across the same problem that you mentioned regarding picking out names. My husband in greek, and their tradition is to name the children after a grandparent - so that part was easy. But now we're debating on the spelling and pronounciation as we know we'll be living in America and don't want our kids to have to struggle with spelling or pronounciation of their name. They're going to get it for sure with the last name, so we're trying to be thoughtful about the first names, both formal names and nicknames. You mentioned on your last US your husband found out the sexes but you didn't. How's that going? It must be hard. There was no question for us, we wanted to know.
I am still a little nervous. A girlfriend of mine was told she was having a girl and low and behold she had another boy.
We have another US appt tomorrow so I think our doctor already knows that I want to see their private parts again to be certain!

So, I hope I was able to catch up with a few of you. Everything is going fairly well on my end. Sleep is getting increasingly difficult, but I have managed to find a few comfortable positions with the help of strategically-placed pillows. Starting to get some swelling in my ankles so I've been trying to take breaks to lay down when I'm working, but also bought some compression stockings to help out. In addition, I bought some shoe inserts for arch support, may friends have told me how their feet grew when they were pregnant and I love my shoes too much to lose them if my feet don't fit in them! LOL! I know with pregnancy our joint our looser and because of weight gain our arches drop so it's not that our feet grow it's actually due to our feet flattening. So, just a helpful tip for all of you to keep your shoe size :) I hope to stop working soon, or at least start working from home. All the travel I do is tiring me out and probably not ideal as I get further along.
Lastly, stopped by a local daycare on my way home after voting today. They charge $400/child/week for full-time daycare for infants. They said they would give me a discount of $350/child/week since I have twins. That's $2,800/month - enough said :S. We'll just have to make it work!

All the best to everyone!

Just a quick update and I will do personals later! I had an ultrasound today and it was so great to see the babies again.

Baby A (girl) is 2lbs 9oz and Baby B (boy) is 2lbs 14oz! Right now they are both breech, which is not great, but she got some adorable shots of their heads snuggling together.

I am so happy that everything looks great!

mev - I know swelling cab be rough! One other tip is to drink plenty of water (I know annoying because you have to pee all the time), but it helps! Sleeping is getting rough for me too. A warm bath or shower before bed seems to help me get to sleep, but I wake up to go to the bathroom and then I have a hard time finding a comfortable position again. I had my feet get bigger during pregnancy too, but mine actually stayed a half size bigger... doh! I think the hardest part about double nursing infants is getting them both on the nursing pillow and getting them both latched. It gets easier as they get bigger, but it is a bit daunting when they are so small. You can do it though, it just takes practice. Good childcare is so, so expensive. That is one of the reasons I stopped working with the first two, it just didn't make sense for me to keep working. Hopefully you can make it work for you! How long of a maternity leave do you have?

Mev - WOW that is alot of $$$ for daycare. I know someone who had a nanny come live with them. I think it is less expensive and you can have them work around your schedule. Nanny also has to do the baby's laundry and tidy up their rooms. The nanny needs their own bedroom of course and you are responsible to supply meals for them and a car. It really worked out for the couple I know. No rushing to get the kids up for daycare, ohhh and the never ending colds and babies being sick missing work for that. too. The couple even worked their schedule out to have the nanny babysit on a saturday night so they could go out to dinner @ times. It is definitely worth thinking about with twins on the way. This is my second child, so no babyshower :( I do have hand me downs though that are boys clothes. I have bought some clothes too. I have a
alot of neutral clothes from my DD, good thing I never found out the sex with her.

AFM - I'm 23 weeks today. I feel the baby boy moving around alot, wondering if that is a preview of how this baby will be active compared to my DD. I'm huge, I look like I'm having a boy. 4 more months to go.

Jenice - you can still have a baby shower even if it isn't your first child. This set of twins will be my 3rd & 4th kids and I have two small baby showers that have been planned by my friends. I told everyone that they didn't need to get gifts, but if they wanted to, I could use girl clothes (I gave them all to my brother) and toiletries (diapers, wipes, etc.). In my experience people love to buy baby clothes. Even if you don't get gifts you should have a shower to celebrate this wonderful boy! I think every baby deserves a shower!

Hi everyone :)

Mev-Looks like we are more "twin" like in more ways then the babies! I too was a big crafter (scrapbooks, keepsake boxes, ornaments, etc) and now I'm wondering if I'll ever have the room (or time!) to do any of it again! I can appreciate the cost of daycare. I looked into it also and its 450 a week per baby, but they will take $300 off since there is 2! Wow thanks at that point whats the difference between $3600 and $3300 really ;) So we will have to do some scheduling. I'm going to have to look fo ra new job after they are born anyway since my present employer hasn't given me the warm and fuzzy feeling that they will be so eager to have me back! They are playing such games its silly really....oh well. Thank God I bought a disability policy that's all I can say! I cant wait to see how much my littles have grown my next u/s isnt until the 15th.

Purple-So awesome you got to see your little ones again :) Cant wait for my u/s by then they should be right around the size of yours since you are a few weeks ahead of me. I love when they snuggle up next to each other too cute! I have a pic of them all snuggles and I plan on showing it to them when they fight saying "see you used to be so lovey to each other!" Wow that sounds like something my mom would do ;) I sympathize with the sleeping just when I get all comfy and drift off...time to pee and then it's a vicious cycle all night long.

AFM-Had to go on medication for the diabetes :( The numbers just were not coming down with the diet alone. It has only been a day so I cant really tell if its working I have to call again Monday with all my blood sugar readings and see what they say. The twins cribs are assembled as is their changing table and dresser it looks so cute. I started taking all the tags of their clothes and will probably get them all washed pretty soon. I want to do as much as possible in advance. DH has been so good that I dont want to dump a whole bunch of stuff on him at the last second, plus I like to lok at all their little stuff over and over again!

Hope everyone is feeling well and enjoying their weekend!

Mev- How funny it was to read that you have to clear out the nursery of scrapbook stuff because I am doing the SAME THING! I am way behind you though. I STILL have to box up my scrapbook stuff and find a place for it. I don't want to put it in the basement because I am still holding out hope that I will be able to work on it. LOL Yeah right. Maybe I will work on putting stuff away today so I can start painting. UGH...so much to do and I am getting so tired.

Kitty- did they put you on metformin? That's what they have me on for the PCOS but it is medicine for diabetes. Last time I went to the OB my sugar and protein in my urine was a bit elevated. Hopefully when I go this week I won't be any worse. I can handle GD but I really don't want pre-e. That scares me the most.

Purple- yeah for seeing the babies again! I love seeing my little girl. I could sit there all day and just watch. LOL

Jenice- I have heard of some people having a second shower and calling it a sprinkle. Just a few gifts of things you need for this baby. I would still register somewhere. Worst case scenario is that you don't have a shower but you still get a 15% off completion certificate for shopping. So yea for a coupon!

Afm- Nothing new here. Just really tired. By the end of the day it gets really hard to breathe. Not sure what that is all about. I still need to paint the nursery. My crib that I ordered is ready to be delivered...but still need to paint. I'd hire someone to do it but the last 2 painters we hired ended up sucking so bad I can't believe I had to pay them. I'd just rather it gets finished right so I don't look at it ever day and get annoyed.
Can you believe we are almost to the 3rd trimester? Or are just starting it for some of us???? EEEKKK! With all of the holidays we are going to be popping out babies before we know it! Much love to you all through the holidays!

I have not posted anything for months. I was really sick from week 6 until very recently. I am now 24 weeks 1 day with twin boys. Now that I am not throwing up multiple times a day, my entire body itches. The itching feels like bugs are biting me from under my skin...it is everywhere. It keeps me up at night and I usually fall asleep between 3-5 am. So, exhaustion is really getting to me. There isn't anything available to me to help with the itching! I really hate being pregnant, but it is the only way I can meet my little guys. I never forgot this experience when I was pregnant with my first son (people said I would forget...they lied), but I took the plunge anyways because I needed/wanted him to have a sibling so badly. I was hoping I wouldn't have the same difficulties with this pregnancy, but it ended up being worse! If my post sounds depressing, it is because I feel depressed. I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel...and I am so tired! My DH is amazing and does most of the childcare for our son, but I can see the toll it is taking on him too. When will February ever get here???

Lisa- Oh sweetie that sounds just horrible. I can't imagine what you are going through. Of course you must hate pregnancy. But you are such a strong person to want more children for your family and to give your son his siblings. I am so proud of you for enduring this. You are more than half way there. I've read that full term for twins is 36-37w right? It's won't be too much longer. I wish I could take some of your symptoms away for you. Big hugs sweetie and you are doing wonderfully!

lisadcb - you are an amazing woman! I am sorry that this pregnancy is even worse than the first. What you are doing for your family and for your son is really something you should be proud of. At 24 weeks you are more than 1/2way there, most twins are delivered between 36-38 weeks. You can make it, you are a brave, strong mom who can do anything and it will all be worth it when you see those two tiny faces! Hopefully Thanksgiving and getting ready for the Holidays might help time go a bit faster for you.

PA - I had to giggle just a little, you will work on scrapbooking again... when your girl is about 3 =) At that age though they love "helping" so you could give her a little scrapbook to glue and cut. That would be adorable, you and her scrapbooking together. Be careful painting, hopefully it is not too big of a room. The baby could be pushing on your lungs which can make it harder to breathe, but that wouldn't be just at night. Or is it more when you lay down?

jenice - one more note about registering is that they will also send you diaper coupons once the baby is born... very very handy.

kitty - sorry your job hasn't been so nice. That is so annoying. It sounds like you are getting lots done. The more you can get done now, the better. I am sure you can imagine it becomes increasingly hard to bed over, lift, or do much with a giant belly in the way. I even put the sheets on the crib (which is a minor pain) and just covered them each with a blanket to keep the dust off. That way I can just pull the blankets off and wash them when it gets closer. Also it might be a good idea to start thinking about a hospital bag, just in case. I had a friend who was put on bedrest and her poor husband had to pack her hospital bag and it wasn't quite what she wanted. How is the medication working for you? Hopefully your levels get better. I was thinking of you yesterday when I had to drink the glucose drink.

Lisa – I am sorry to hear about your symptoms, the itching sounds very painful. Does the oatmeal bath soothe it at all? At least your DH is stepping in with childcare and helping you out!! I hope these symptoms go away soon… Your little guys will be here in no time, and they’ll make it all worth it.

Pa-fa – Have fun painting & decorating the nursery! What themes/ colors have you picked out? We are slowly starting to get the nursery ready too. I totally get what you mean about doing the painting yourself…. DH finally finished painting –and it took him forever! I enjoy painting so usually do all the painting in the house. But I did not want to be in the paint fumes in such a small confined space so DH had to step in (we bought VAC free paint but I still got paranoid). DH HATES painting so would do a bit and then stop – then pick it up again the following weekend. It took him 3 weekends to finish, I was wondering if that would be done before the babies’ due date!! Hope yours get done faster than ours :D

Purple fish –Yay for your babies weighing in almost 3 pds (they are probably over 3 pds by now!) That is so cute that they were snuggling together – do you get u/s at every visit? We got one since the 18 week anatomy scan, and it was the fastest u/s ever, the OB did not explain what he was looking at and put everything away within 3 minutes, and just said “they look great”. We have another one scheduled for our nxt visit, in 2 weeks. I can’t wait to see their little face again!

Kitty – I am sorry about your diabetes… It’s a good thing they caught it early, so you can start treatment before it impacts your health or the babies. I heard that most pregnant moms become anemic at one point of their pregnancy, that’s it’s more a question of “when” rather than “if”. I guess the babies take whatever they need from you, and you only get the leftovers, and unless you are on a liver & spinach diet, there is no way to eat enough iron for 2, let alone for 3. The supplements will take care of that in no time. Yay for getting the cribs & furniture up! We have the cribs up too - it made it seem so real to see those 2 cribs side by side! We are having 2 babies, for real!

Jenice – Yay on starting to feel the kicks! So you think this baby boy is kicking more than your DD did? That’s funny! A soccer player in the making… I can’t give you advice on showers b/c we don’t have them back in Europe, so I am still struggling w/ the etiquette around it all. Who to invite, what to register for, etc etc. Thankfully my friends have starting planning and been really helpful in helping me figure out what is OK and what is not. It seems like a “sprinkle” as Pa-fa mentioned could be a lot of fun and help you stock up on blue & red clothes :D

Mev – Thanks for the tips on the shoe inserts… Aren’t compression socks the sexiest looking things ever? I love how they even write about embolisms on the outside of them… I bought some for my last flight to Europe and they helped A LOT! I think I’ll keep wearing them when travelling even post-pregnancy. Definitely not great looking but they prevented my feet to gain 2 sizes over the 8-hour flight to Brussels! I too had difficulty sleeping – and splurged on that pregnancy pillow. I highly recommend it!! It takes a lot of room in the bed but it prevents you from flipping back on your back during the night, which I think is what causes the back pain. I have slept great ever since!

AFM –We had an OB apt yesterday – no u/s, but my b/p was good and the babies heartbeats are strong & regular. My weight is another story… I gained 32 pds so far. I am so embarrassed to even type it in. I think 5 of that were from our last IVF cycle, but that would still leave me with a gain of 27, and I am only 23 weeks!! That’s crazy high, right?? The OB and nurse both said they were not worried one bit. I eat often but don’t feel like I eat a lot more – and pretty much all I eat is natural, fresh and healthy. Could bananas make me gain that much?? WTF?? I gained 9 pds since the last apt 3 weeks ago – 3 pds a week. Wow. All that matters is the babies are healthy & growing – I can always lose the weight afterwards. But what a shock that was! We are getting ready to head to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving – our last adult vacation until the babies are here! DH’s family is from the W coast and we meet there every year, it’s a lot of fun. I look forward to showing my baby bump around :D

Have a happy healthy Thanksgiving everyone – don’t we all have so much to be thankful for this year!
