April/May Cycle Buddies!

Hi my friends!

Just thought I would check in with everybody and let you know what's going on with me

Got my shot protocol today, Lupron starts on the 20th then on the 27th I am moving on to Gonal F 300 IU and Menopur 150 IU.
Egg retrevial is going to be on or around April 9th! Now for the bad news, well not bad more disappointing....

I am doing PGD with this IVF cycle. 1.) I am 37 and my egg reserve is low and the chances for chromosome problems with my embryo's are increased. 2.) Because I have had two failed IVF cycles (2008 Fresh, 2010 FET). WIth both of these against me the RE felt it would be in our best interest to do PGD with this cycle.

My RE was doing 3 day PGD. On day 3 after the embryos were retrieved they would take 1 cell out and have it tested. THen on day 5 if you had any 'good' embryos to transfer they would be transferred. Now our RE has opted to only perform 5 day PGD mostly because they find a lot of embryos 'auto correct' between day 3 & 5. What this means however is that when the cells are taken out on day 5 they wont get the results back for up to 2 weeks. SOOOOO our hopes of a fresh transfer are done, we will now be doing an FET about 6 weeks after the fresh retrevial. So ladies it looks like I will probably be jumping to the May board once it's established.

I am disappointed but I know this is best for my chances and at this point that is all I care about. According to my RE chances of pregnancy with day 5 PGD are about 75%, I like those odds.

Hi ladies,

I've been reading on this forum for some time but only just joined up to participate as I finally have a time for my first IVF so hope you don't mind joining this group later. I start pills towards the end of this month so I'm really IVF April/May. I'm getting excited and nervous at the same time. There is a glimmer of hope but the risk of a huge loss too. I'm Irish but living in New Zealand so far away from family/friends. You guys seem to have a lovely friendly support going : ) At the moment I'm wondering where to stop taking an anti-depressant I've been on since Christmas. Its citalopram - mild one and doc says safest one there but all of these have risks. Trying to balance my own mental health through this journey with potential loss ahead with the risk. Has anyone had to deal with this?

I am so frustrated. AF is such a B%TCH (pardon me). 2 months after I had my son, while breastfeeding, she came like clock work, not giving me a break. Now that I need her to come where is she?

I too am doing the "red rain" dance for you! I started BC pills today, had a trial transfer procedure today and MY MEDS ARRIVED ... There is a lot of STUFF in that KIT

Luckily, there is a med class given @ my doc's office and all the other APRIL IVF "cyclers" will be there with their respective partners. They will go thru how to properly administer the meds. I am excited...still nervous tho

I was on Celexa as well (Citalipram). My RE advised me to get off of it because it can cause low birth weight and problems when the baby is born. It's one of those drugs however that you have to weigh the risk/benefit. I have Anxiety Disorder and suffer from pretty severe panic attacks. I just had one on Monday night, SUPER FUN!
I got off Celexa before my FET in November and since I am still TTC I am not taking it, but it's really hard on me and my anxiety and panic is increasing what seems like daily. If your RE thinks it's okay for you to be on it then the benefit of it probably outweighs the risk. I also take Ativan as an 'emergency pill' which I can't take once I am pregnant (God willing) and let me tell you I am FREAKING OUT about not having that as a safety net.

hi ladies! ugh...i'm so bummed! it's so hard sometimes to listen to people's announcements of being pregnant. EVERYONE around me is getting pregnant!!! a teacher just announced at our faculty meeting that she is due end of september. my sil is pregnant & so is a friend. everywhere i go, i see pregnant women. usually, i'm fine about it, but for some reason today, i just got so frustrated. on my drive home from school today i was so emotional. i taked to dh about it & he's so sweet & i feel bad, but a part of me is like "why won't you even consider donor sperm??? i'll even do donor embryo, so it's not genetically connected to either of us!!!" but i know that that's not fair & i have to respect his decision. i'm just really upset & feel so alone. i hate this...

Wow, lots of catching up to do! Welcome to all of our newcomers! I will get you on our list asap. And just to point out, this is an april/MAY group, so all of you May ladies need to stay with us too!

Ester, I know exactly what you are going through (except I have Ella already). SIL #1 just delivered in Feb, SIL#2 due in May, step sister due in early July, very close friend due end of July, lady at school pregnant with triplets, other pregnant teachers too, and not to mention all of the babies I see doing newborn photography! It is a baby explosion up in this piece! lol And why haven't we gotten together yet? I am facing the sperm issue too. Not sure we would ever use donor sperm, but may eventually have to consider. For now we have said no and would cross that bridge if we get to it.

So I am on day 4 of lupron. Not too bad, a little bitchiness here and there, but that could be from work stress too. After I do the injection I have itchiness and feel like my skin is crawling for about 20 minutes. DH dropped off his SA today and as expected, nothing in it. So I am waiting to hear back from his uroligist about whether or not he will be able to schedule us for a potential emergency TESE. Whether he can or not, I think we are going through this cycle and banking on our frozen vile from the batch that gave us Ella. I think it is a good luck batch! But, I am fully aware that the vile good be empty or the sperm might not be usable and then it is a wasted cycle. That would suck.

Hey, I know how you feel. My Sis-in-law is expecting in MAY & so is a friend. This entire experience is an emotional roller coaster ride! Its normal to have a not so great moment or day, for that matter! My meds arrived today and when I opened the box, I couldn't believe how much inside, I sat on the floor thinking "what have I got myself into?" Then my mind rested on my DH and how he so wants & deserves to be a dad and that thought alone chased the negatives away!

Kentucky Welcome to our wonderful group . You will find a lot of support here. These great women keep me going. When it all seems too much, i know i am alone. I am so sorry that you are far from your family and friends, it can get really lonely especially when undergoing a stressful procedure like this. Just know that we are here for you (((BIG HUG)))

Kentucky ~ one of the great things about this board is that there are woman from all the around the world and we benefit from everyone's experiences.

Blaqdymun ~ the injections are not as bad as you would think, the needles are very small. It's the idea that hurts.

Moorebaby ~ it is most difficult to see others around you pregnant. When my sister in-law had my niece I even had a hard time being around them. I wanted to be happy for them, but I was just sad for me.

Michele ~ praying that your frozen vial is full of strong little swimmers!!!

AFM ~ thanks to everyone for dancing for AF, she came yesterday. I start BCP on the March 11th and then Follistim and Menopur on April 2. Let the cycle begin.

PERSONAL POLL: I am interested in seeing the responses I will receive so here goes:

I know I want at least ONE baby but TWO would definitely be the way to go for us. I am torn between transferring 2 or 3 embryos! I am afraid if I do 3 I may have triplets which I believe will be a bit much for me to handle . However, I wanted to try for twins and was thinking that 3 would give me the best chances @ possible twins & of course discussing with DH, but...

Three IUI's didn't work, so I had surgery which showed moderate endometriosis and a small fibroid. We tried IUI again after that, but no luck. Our first IVF cycle was Dec/Jan, and we had a BFN at the begining of Feb. It was obviously a huge disappointment. We had 3 perfect blasts, transferred 2, and froze 1. We're moving on to another fresh cycle because we really want to transfer 2. Our RE makes us wait for 3 periods before starting BCPs. So now I'm waiting for AF to start BCPs. I just finished my last AF, so we still have a bit of a wait. We're hoping to be able to get to ET in May. Just waiting, but I wanted to go ahead and get in on the support group and cheer everyone on!

Hello Wishingandhoping: WELCOME to the April/May cycle....I too am a Newbie but I find the forum comforting & informative as I am learning as I go along! I don't get periods and so I was able to start BCP yesterday, I have a pituitary adenoma, which prevents me from producing enough of the FSH/Estrogen, etc it takes to ovulate & possible get pregnant. That is why I am here and this will be my 1st IVF or stab at any fertility methods for that matter.

I am glad to be the 1st to welcome you. I will be doing the AF dance for you tonight, I am so anxious to begin injections but i have to wait until my med teach class on the 22nd MORE WAITING...Hats off to the human body....it's amazing what it can do all on its own when everything is in sync!
