THE TWO WEEK WAIT!

Post by Mandy Miller »

Hi again!

Sorry to come back again so soon, but have just been to lunch with a couple of close friends & one of them has 3 kids. They know about my situation, although haven't told them exact test date as wanted to ease the pressure a bit, but they will know either way. The friend with kids said during these 2 weeks I shouldn't have any spicy foods, ie; curries, even mild ones. What are your thoughts on this please? Especially those who are confirmed pregnant! I really love my curries & will get withdrawal symptoms if I don't. If I really can't, then I will have to have something else this Saturday when my husband has his Indian takeaway that isn't spicy, but would love some curry if poss.

Thanks for help yet again!

Love, mandy. :?

P.S. Has anyone new tested positive recently in the last few days? Would love to know.

I ate curry when I was pregnant but not to begin with as I just didn't fancy it. I think as long as it is properly cooked there is no problem otherthan giving you heart burn. I would be interested in what others say though.
Hope the 2ww isn't sending you up the wall it is so hard isn't it?

Mandy,

I have to say I've never heard anything about being advised against eating spicy foods in the 2 ww and the only reason they say one might want to stay away from spicy foods in pregnancy is, as Ellie said, to avoid heartburn.....but even then that is just a matter of being more comfortable; not of having anything to do with affecting the pregnancy.

I would say go ahead and enjoy your curry!

Hi Mandy

Maybe your friend is thinking of the old wives tales of starting off labour by either having s*x, or eating a hot curry, and is just getting a bit confused! I can't say I've ever heard of steering clear of curries/spicy foods before.

Fingers crossed for a +ve result!

Thanks for the thoughts.

I can't see what harm curry can do, so I think I will go ahead & have one. I can't possibly see how it could cause a miscarriage. I know it can cause heartburn, but who cares! My baby (?) might as well get used to them now, as I am a severe curry addict!!

Thanks for good wishes about testing too, especially to Chris & Jools. I know Chris has a child, but where are you in our ongoing fight Jools? Or have you had enough & sought other avenues?

It would really give me hope if some more of you could tell me you have had positive results. The more we get the better!

Love, Mandy.

Mandy I ate curry throughout my pregnancy. Home made and reasonably tangy. Anyway, if curries precluded pregnancy, most of the world wouldn't get here would they? Millions of babies are born every year to mothers who eat spicy food as their regular, daily diet.

Re. your wanting the recent results. They're on the board under 'August Testers'. People add themselves when they know their test date and smilies are added for positive results. New threads for tests are opened about once a month and the list is there for checking each day.

regards
Debra.

Mandy,

I cannot go 2 weeks, much less 9 months without spicy food. I'm so glad you posted this, as I was beginning to worry that maybe the old wives tale had a bit of truth in it. I'm always looking for an explanation as to why the IVF failed, since it doesn't make sense to me.

It's true that spicy food is the norm in some of the world's most populous countries! I think eating McDonalds is really poisonous to humans, personally, but I have a girlfriend who ate it every day. She said everything else made her feel sick when she was pregnant.

Hi Mandy

I feel like I'm only just starting this rollercoaster, even though we've been TTC for nearly 7 years. We were determined to let nature take it's course for the first couple of years, then when it didn't happen, the Dr found that I possibly don't ovulate regularly (progesterone level tests only at required level, indicating ovulation, when on double dose of clomid) and DH's sperm count was between 1mill and 12mill, dropping back to 6mill. We still thought that we might be able to conceive naturally, but that it might just take a bit longer. We've been coasting along trying not to think about it, until I by chance saw a copy of the letter in my file at the Dr's from the fertility specialist, saying that my only hope of conceiving was through IVF, as my DH's sperm were mainly abnormal. Nice to be told! As DH is Italian, we got a second opinion out there whilst we were on holiday in May, and they basically said why have you waited so long. We said because of money (been quoted £4-£4.5K with ICSI), and they nearly fell off their chair when we said how much it cost in the UK. They do the whole process including ICSI for 2.5 Euro (£1800). So, I bit the bullet and decided to do it there! ........ I've done my first 'down regging' injection today (felt a bit weird ever since, but had good needle control at the time :o ), and will start my Gonal F on day 2 of next AF. We're then flying to Italy on 2nd Sept to start with the scans and whole caboodle (trying not to think of big needles for EC  )! Trying not to get my hopes up too much, but it's flipping scary! I'm flying back from Italy on the 24th, so by then you should have a +ve result, and it'll be my turn for the 2ww! ARRGGHHHH!!!!!

Hi Mandy

I ate spicy food during my 2ww, more chinese & cajun chicken type things (went off Indian when I started my hormones for some reason.)

Wouldn't think it would do you any harm and I haven't noticed it in the lists of what not to eat in the pregnancy books.

I am an August Cycle Buddy too and got a positive result last Tuesday, after my fifth attempt, and my hcg levels seem to rising fine, even after my little bleeding scare on Monday.

The little chart on the august testers post shows everyones results so far this month. Good luck.

Jools, good luck with your treatment in Italy, where about are you going. I would imagine it would be like having a wee bit of a ivf holiday, getting away from the normal everyday strains.

Hi Wendy

I'm going to Naples for my treatment, and we'll stay with family about 40 mins from the hospital. I've got 3 and a half weeks off work, so hopefully it'll be a nice relaxing and more importantly, productive break!

Congrats on your results, by the way.
