One more thing: Have any of you guys visited www.babycenter.com? It's so much fun to go every week and see what the baby looks like and what the developmental things are for the week.

Paige,

So sorry to hear that you are not well. Supposedly our immune systems are somewhat compromised during pregnancy. To me it seems as though it should be the opposite, shouldn't it?

I need a flu shot and am very afraid there will be none left by the time I reach the second trimester (since the doctor told me to wait). Oh well, not much I can do about that.

Hope you are up and around soon. And thanks for the swimsuit offer - I will definately take you up if I don't find one by December.

Hi

Sorry to hear that you've been feeling rough, Paige. Hope that you feel better again soon, and that you can catch up on some sleep.

I also wanted to mention babycentre... it's great... fantastic to see how your baby is developing. A friend also recommended 'what to expect when you're expecting' as an essential book to have!

In answer to your question... Halloween, in England you do have quite a few kids trick or treating (not as much as in the States, though). In Germany, my doorbell has NEVER been rung (well, in the 4 Halloweens we've been here for!). In Bahrain and Dubai, we did used to get dressed up and go trick or treating too... not sure about the rest of the world, though!!!

Has anyone else been suffering from itchy skin? Mine's got so bad I have developed a rash on my face ... the acne went and the rash came!! I went to the doctor today and she reckons I have excema... which I have NEVER had before in my life.... somehow I am getting the feeling that pregnancy doesn't agree with me... but my little 'Bernie' is still busy moving around and reassuring me that 'he' is going to be my little easter bunny next year!!

How's everyone else feeling??? Keep in touch.

Tanya:

I get really itchy and dry too. Though 2 times per day I put on this lotion for stretch marks, but I put it everywhere. It has shea butter, vitamin e, collagin, and something else...but it really seems to help if I stick to the twice a day regime.
babycenter.com also has some cool body pillows for sale, I might be getting a new one because I think they've made some advances!
I haven't worked out in 2 weeks because of this rotten cold, hopefully by the end of this week I can get back on track.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi Paige

I will continue to slather myself in the stuff as well... hopefully it will help. I don't want to put it on my face though, as I will probably end up coming out in even more spots!! My scalp is also really itchy, but I can't really put anything on it, without shaving all my hair off (now that's an idea!! If only it wasn't getting so cold!)

I haven't done ANY exercise except walking from A to B, since I found out I was pregnant (hope that makes you feel better for your 2 weeks abstinence!!)... I have been busy studying for exams, but now they're over, I really ought to start doing something. I bought a pilates for pregnancy DVD a while ago, and want to start that, also to go for some long walks and swimming. Can anyone recommend any other good sporting activities?

Take care,
T

Paige,

How is your cold? I have gotten a terrible one in Philadelphia, then had to fly back all miserable. I've stayed home today, but admit I am not any better.

We had our 11 1/2 week ultrasound today. It is amazing! The twins are growing well. They were rolling around and kicking and waving - quite a show! I just hope they are not as uncomfy as I am from this cold.

I have not exercised in a year, due to the treatments, being pregnant and just plain being fed up with it all. I used to run, lift weights, kickbox, and various other things for an hour a day. I hope to get into the prenatal yoga in November, when I have a bit more time.

Hello Alicia

Nice to hear your scan went well, mine is next Wednesday 27th which is one day off twelve weeks the best thing is it's half term here so Jessie can come with which will be wonderful.
I'll let you know how it goes.
I went out last night with my friends very strange sober experience on blackcurrant and soda I lasted til 11pm Mum was babysitting as Paul working in London so by the time I had seen her off home in cab it was midnight which is possibley the latest I have managed to stay awake in a long time old fossil!
Glad things going well must have been brilliant to see the twins do you want to know what sex they might be is it too soon? I don't want to know but Paul does which could prove tricky!!!
My sister in law whose friend had a baby recently said the later scans are incredible now much more detailed than ten years ago I can't wait tho still as nervous as hell. Have all the pins and needle flutterings that I remember from Jess went I sit quietly which is incredibley reassuring Take care Cate xxxx

HI Everyone!

I hope your bumps are all growing nicely! I had my amnio yesterday, and will hit the 24 hour-you're-sort-of-out-of-the-woods marker at 11:30 this morning. I guess if something is going to happen (miscarriage) it will happen 99% of the time in the first 24 hours. I actually see my regular ob today too, so that will be reassuring.
All in all though, the amnio was not painful. The POI shots were much more painful than the amnio. The positive thing was we got a great ultrasound and got to see the baby wiggling around and stretching it's legs and moving it's arms about. It was a very tenuous moment after the ultrasound and before the amnio because I wanted to run out of the room after I saw that little baby moving around. I didn't think I was actually going to go through with it. The clinic was great, and amnio's are all they do every 1.5 hours of every day. Their rates for miscarriage were more like 1 in 800. We'll know the sex and the chromsomal tendencies by the end of next week.
I think it's weird the Dr.s all wanted me to have this testing done just because I turned 35 this year, had ICSI, and am adopted (so I have no access to family DNA history). I don't know if I'd do it again just based upon the anxiety...not even the procedure. All I could think about last night was what an idiot I am after going through this hell to get pregnant and then putting it slightly at risk because I'm 35?

Paige,

Don't worry about the amnio. It sounds like you are nearly out of the woods, and I'm sure you haven't come this far just to be the 1 in 800 who has a problem. You beat the odds to get here and those were much tougher. Hope you have a great vacation, too!

I had the nuchal translucency test yesterday. We also get the results back in a week. With twins, amnio is more risky. Also, I'm 38, so I'm getting to old to go through this many more times. Depending on the results, we may have an amnio as well.

Alicia:

Thanks so much for your kind words. If you do go the amnio route...it seriously is not as bad as everyone says. It's just like giving blood, in fact it's the same gauge needle. We are pros at that aren't we?
My neighbor had an amnio on her twinies...and has two beautiful baby boys. She also had one with her daughter!
Good luck with your results, I'm sure it will be fine. The second trimester is great! I feel so much better it's amazing.
I just got back from my ob appointment and she listened to the heartbeat and everything sounds great. She said I could snorkel in Aruba but no diving or horseback riding...I think I would have known that already ha ha.

Hi Paige

Hope you're feeling all well now. Have you had the results from the amnio yet?

Hi Alicia

How did it go with the nuchal translucency? Have you had your results back yet?

My doctor gave me my results immediately... the chromosome 21 risks for someone my age are around 1 in 566, and from the test, he saw that it was reduced further to 1 in 4229... he recommended no further treatment- and only wants to see me every 4 weeks now.

I had my 16 week check-up this week... and as they were taking so long in the lab to return the blood results (the fact that they do it immediately here in Germany is AMAZING in itself, for those of you who know the NHS!!!)... he asked if I wanted to have a quick ultrasound (he wasn't going to do one). Of course, I said yes.. and it's beautiful!! www.boycieandmarlene.com/Bernie1 if you want to have a look.

He said that we should be able to tell by the next ultra-sound if we're having a little prince or little princess... I'm sooooo excited!! :D

How are the rest of you getting on? How often are you having checkups? How big are your bumps getting?? I'm wearing mine with PRIDE!!!

The doc said that DH should start being able to feel the kicking in the next 2 to 4 weeks... by the movements I feel, I am positive that we have another little David Beckham on our hands here!!

Write soon and let me know how you're all getting on.
Take care and give your bumps a stroke from me!

Hey Tanya:

I visited your ultrasound pics..isn't it amazing. I have some as well, and in one the baby is sucking it's thumb already! I get the results from the amnio the end of next week. I'm really excited to find out what the sex is. Everybody keeps telling me I'm having a boy. I don't have a feeling for it yet. The first time around I told everyone I was having a girl, and I did! So I'll wait to have a dream or something. I've read that pregnant moms' dreams that indicate the sex of the baby are over 70% true. I did have one dream that I had a baby boy, but really don't have a feeling one way or the other while awake. :o
I'm starting to really look pregnant rather than just fat, which is nice!
I will still have a level II ultrasound around 20-22 weeks, so that will be fun to see everything again. During the amnio ultrasound the baby totally stretched out it's legs and I could feel it pushing inside, it had very LONG legs. I'm 5'9 and my husband is 6'4...so those long legs were fun to see.
I'm going every 4 weeks to the Dr. as well now, isn't that nice? It's also kind of weird going so long between appointments when we used to go every other day for blood work!

Hope everyone is doing great!

Hi ladies

Paige, can I have some of your long legs please!?!? DH and I keep saying what we want our little miracle to have off each of us... it's so exciting. I also really want to know the sex. Have you been discussing names yet? I would love to actually remember my dreams, so maybe I would know whether it was a boy or girl... does it count that my mum has dreamt that we're having a little girl????

Ang, I know what you mean about wearing your bump with pride... I couldn't wait to tell all and sundry.. it was such a relief afterwards, especially when I could tell work. Although, saying that, they are really piling stress on me now, and I'm thinking of leaving at the end of the year.

When do people actually start buying things for the baby? I've seen sooooo many nice things and am having itchy fingers!!!

Can anyone feel any movement? can you feel it from the outside yet? DH is really excited to feel something and can't yet quite grasp that it's really happening.

Take care of your bumps and write soon.
