Hi everyone
Isn't it great to be on the 2nd trimester thread! I'm 18wks today with twins and looking forward to the next scan in 3 weeks time. We too want to find out about the sexes.
I'm huge. I've put on nearly 2 stone but who cares. It's great to get this far. I'm alittle anaemic and suffer with palpatations which restricts my excercise tolerance but I'm sure once the twins have arrived I'm hoping the weight will disappear like magic! (I don't think so!)
We've begun to look around for baby equipment. We live in a small house and the spare room (soon to be nursery) is going to get very cramped with 2 cots etc. Nevermind.. I'm too scared to order anything just yet or even to start decorating the nursery (I've had a couple of scares). I think we will leave it until the New Year.

Take care everyone and enjoy the energy the 2nd trimester brings you. So good the morning sickness has disappeared
best wishes :D

HI Everyone!

It's great to see everyone doing fine. We just got in from Aruba last night and it was fun to catch up on everyone's posts. Here I am typing at the computer instead of doing about 6 loads of laundry.

My Dr. only wants me eating fish once a week, shrimp lobster once a week, bacon once a week etc. or not at all. So it was hard in Aruba with all of the seafood to order chicken/beef. Also, I know she doesn't want me eating deli meat or hotdogs because of the nitrates, and I found sliced turkey and hotdogs at Trader Joe's that are nitrate free. For those of you who don't have a Trader Joe's try the health food/organic stores and they might have the same stuff. Look at me giving the what to eat sermon while I still crack open a Coca Cola after every breakfast to get my day started. Though I do limit myself to one a day.

Janem: Good to see you back on the board. Sorry to hear you had a few scares, hopefully from here on out will be smooth sailing.

Barny: Welcome! The second trimester is absolutely the easiest! Glad to see you posting.

Angela, Alicia & Tanya: I also did the Winter coat shopping. It was pretty interesting. I ended up at Banana Republic and bought a tweed coat that is fitted through the shoulders and chest and then has a bit of a swing around the belly area. I just hope by March it has enough swing if you know what I mean.

Cate: How are things going?

Well I hope all is well with everyone. I have my level II ultrasound on Monday, which I'm so excited about. I love to see what's going on in there with my little girl. Now that I know the sex it seems so personal to be talking about my little baby girl. I guess it makes it a lot more real. Not that by the size of me, anyone would guess that it's not real. We should measure and see who is the largest ha ha. My sister is pregnant and due Feb. 19th...a little less than 2 months ahead of myself and we often measure and call each other to see who is bigger. She's so much further behind me, but I'm only 1.5 inches smaller! I chalk it up to this being the 2nd child. ha ha, or the Halloween candy :D

Everybody rub your belly and think happy thoughts!

It's two boys!! I was so dissappointed at first, as I had really wanted at least one girl. But I got used to the idea pretty quickly. After what we've been through, and then to have twins -- what was I thinking?

Anyway, I'm going to the fabric store with a friend to buy boy fabrics later today. That will definately get me thinking in the boys mode.

Janem,

Great to hear from you again. Sorry you have had some scares. I bled up until 7 weeks, which was also very frightening. I've gained as much weight as you have, but actually that is right on target for twins at our stage, so they have a great chance of being born big and not too early. We are also skittish about buying the baby gear, though we are researching a lot. My fabric buying trip will be the first attempt.

Paige,

How fun that your sister is pregnant at the same time! I just found out that an aquaintance is pregnant with twins after IVF. I can't wait to catch up with her.

Barny,

Great to see you over hear and congratulations on a good nuchal translucency result. We were relieved to get that too, since I am 38.

Angela,

Will you find out the twins' gender? I was dying to know, but lots of people like to keep it a surprise. To me, nothing about conceiving them was mysterious, so I didn't feel a need to surprise myself when they were born

Alicia:

Congratulations on your 2 boys! We were with friends last last who have 2 IVF boys who are just turning 2, and they were amazing. They didn't let each other out of their site, they were such good friends.

Also....look at the bright side...they will never have to go through the horrendous process of IVF!

Alicia:

How are you doing with wrapping your thought process around the amnio? Do you know when you are scheduled for the consultation? Just thinking of you, because I know the thinking part can be the worst part of the whole procedure.

Paige,

The consultation is just before the amino, with an hour in between to make up our minds (a good thing?). The proceedure would be done at Stanford, which does only amnios all day long. Hopefully they can give us some of their statistics, which I believe to be excellent. Also they will explain what the AFP result really means.

I've talked to a lot of people and done some research, all of which have made me feel much better about the whole thing. Thanks for being there!

Alicia:

Our consultation was prior to the amnio as well, and we could have walked out at any time. Stanford sounds like a great place to have it if you choose to. I'm sure they'll be really great.
Best of luck to you and your DH.

Hi girls
Just wanted to ask if anyone has experienced the 'undercarriage' problems yet?
I'm 20wks with twins and I'm finding it really difficult to walk :o . It hurts.
I'm told its the ligaments and pelvis stretching???? It wakes me up at night too when I turn over.
Any tips would be great as I'm trying not to take pain killers.
Bye for now

Yes yes yes. I talked to my ob and I get it more after sitting for extended periods of time. She said it's due to blood pooling in an area and it can't circulate out until you change position...or the baby does.
I've gotten out of my car and walked like I've been horseback riding for days. That was fun at the mall.

Janem,

I've been having terrible pain in the hips at night and walking/standing during the day. At night, it seems to help if I sleep in a chair for half the night and then go to bed. During the day, I just try to sit down as much as I can.

I work in retail and it is the busy season. I begged my doctor to put me on leave at the end of December and she said that she won't do it until 34 weeks even though I stand all day! I was horrified! Since I'm pretty sure I can't stand it longer than another couple of weeks, basically I won't get any disability pay since she won't sign the paper. I'm so disappointed about it. I'm trying for a second opinion, but don't feel very hopeful.

OK 2nd trimester Buddies!

It's been quiet over here. It think it's because maybe we actually have some energy and feel good enough to get some things done in our lives! I'm feeling pretty good! The only complaints would be, clogged sinuses at night time, and an occasional twinge in my lower back if I'm sitting weird on the couch. How are you guys faring?

The baby is moving quite a bit...a lot more than my first one, she's kicking me all of the time! hmmm does this mean she's a trouble maker?
My ob said that she'll be scheduling the delivery date during my January appointment so we get a good time for the operating room....you can't eat that day and she doesn't want me starving. Any of you who might have a C-Section, know that they don't let you eat anything after the surgery until you have a bowel movement....they only let you have beef broth or jello. There was 5 days of that for me the last time...I could have eaten my arm off. Someone sent a cookie bouquet to the hospital, and I got up in the middle of the night and jammed a cookie down. Then when I asked in the am what could happen if I ate solids before a bowel movement..the nurse replied, you could have a bowel obstruction and die. Ok, the cookie was good, but not that good!

I hope everyone is doing great. Has anyone thought about how to decorate their nurseries yet? Is anyone buying little layettes?

All:

I gave the woman who cleans my house an early Christmas present this morning. I pulled out of the garage and smashed into her car. I am an idiot. She is the nicest lady. I feel horrid.

Hello all,

You're right Paige it is quiet over here.
Sorry to hear about the smash with your cleaning lady's car. I'm sure she'll forgive you - it was an accident after all. At least you can blame it on the fact that you're pregnant. I'm beginning to think that it's right what they say about your brain shrinking during pregnancy. I definitely have a very fuzzy brain lately.

I haven't thought about decorating the nursery too much yet. Maybe I should whilst I'm not feeling so tired. I need some inspiration though.

Hope everyone else is OK. It's good reading your posts as most of you are a little further ahead than me so I know what to expect next. I've got the stuffy nose but haven't experienced any of that ligament pain yet. I guess I've got that to look forward to!

A quick question - when did you start feeling the baby move? I'm 17 weeks tomorrow and haven't felt anything yet. What does it feel like? I can't wait until I start feeling movement. It will put my mind at rest that everything is OK, altough I'm sure it is if the size of my tummy is anything to go by.

Barny:

I think that I started to feel the baby move around 14-15 weeks. But, with my first one it was 18-19 weeks. I think it's different for everyone. When you first start to feel it, it feels like flutters, or butterfly wings...very gentle and subtle. Try sitting down in a quiet room after you eat a meal. That seems to be when they're really active. It will probably be lower than you would think too...like beneath your belly button.

I have been doing a lot of things that inidcate my brain isn't functioning right. Seriously, I think I'm losing it. So does my dh.
