I've been so afraid to post. I have to admit that we chickened out on the amino and declined it at the last minute. The babies look very healthy on ultrasound level II, and in the end, that plus the Nuchal Translucency test were enough for us. None of the doctors seem to be alarmed by our decision, and they all assure us that everything looks to be fine.

I have good news also - my doctor signed the paper for disability, so I can finally get off my feet at work. I have very mixed feelings, because I will miss the work, but I know it's the best thing for the little buddies (I call them that because I call my husband Buddy). I've had scary swelling and weight gain (6 lbs. in 2 days) from standing at work, so it will be good not to have to worry about that.

Paige - I got a swimsuit, so I'm all set for the trip to Maui in January. Thanks for offering to lend if I couldn't find one. And you're right, Gap Maternity is awesome!

Alicia:

Good for you not doing the amnio. You followed your heart and that's all anyone needs to know! Especially if you had the nuchal fold and the level II and everything looks fine. I wish I had had those tests first, I probably wouldn't have done the amnio either.
6 lbs in 2 days! Something is definately going on with your water retention. I'm glad that they put you on disability. That's pretty scary. Isn't it called toxemia? Or something like that?
Enjoy your time off, if you are a reader at all, pick up The Kite Runner. It's fiction, and probably one the best books I've read in the last couple of years ( and I read A LOT).

Hello Paige and Alicia & all
Hope you are all nearly sorted for Christmas and have done every last bit of shopping I only have a stocking for Jessie's gerbils to buy!!!!!
we went yesterday and bought all the veg sprouts on sticks etc I watched the news with Jess this morning still up early even though off school and the weather in America looked terrible lots of snow Jess of course thought it looked marvellous. Their Lapland trip went brilliantly I wish I could show you photo, I think it was a really good thing for them to do together.
I don't think we will get snow here it was freezing at the begining of the week but just windy and nasty now. Jess has her best friend Niamh to play today I am taking them to the pictures this afternoon to see Lemony Snickett it's just come out here.
I read your posts Alicia and it must be a relief the doctor finely took pity on you and signed you off work I suppose you must be doubly worn out with twins, I went on two nights out on the run last week and was up til midnight big wow!!! I was exhausted afterwards.
Paige I got the book out the library you recommended to Alicia I'll try and give it a go over Christmas.
I tend to read funny books more so I like anything by Ben Elton Mike Gayle or Terry Prachitt tho I read so many Terry Prachitt books I got sick of them. My funniest all time recommend to anyone book is called My Life on a Plate by India Knight it's hysterical.
I am feeling very well there is a lot more activity going on inside tho no definate kicks or prods yet, and Paul still hasn't slipped up what the baby is yet, everything seems much the same as when I had Jess tho so I am convincing myself I am having a girl, one thing I have noticed I don't know if either of you have is I don't seem to have to do much hair removal at the moment which is odd for me as I have dark hair and am normally constantly removing or bleaching somewhere!
stay in touch I'll have to go and see what the girls (Jess and Niamh)are up to!! Cate xxxx

Cate and Paige,

Thank you for the book recommendations. I'll definately be having time to read now that I'll be home. Also sewing, hopefully. Which is good, because I'm already starting to outgrow some of my maternity clothes, and the doctor assures me that eventually none will fit.

I made reservations for classes yesterday for childbirth & breastfeeding. At Stanford they actually offer "Breastfeeding for Multiples" which is nice. Scary thought that it is. I found out a girlfriend is having B/G twins from IVF and she is just one week behind me. She will also deliver at Stanford. We're thinking maybe once or twice a month we could trade off childcare so we could each have some time with our DHs.

Meanwhile, we've been going out like crazy. Both me and DH are really homebodies, but I think we feel like we'll never get the chance again come April. So last night we saw Cake (a great band) and next week we'll go to the Nutcracker ballet. Then vacation for two weeks in January. It's so great to spend this much time with him!

Hope all is well for all of you, and you have a lovely holiday season. Cate - I can't believe Paul is able to keep the secret! I'm sure my Buddy would not be able to.

Hi Ladies and Bumps

Hope you all had a good Christmas... we definitely did. My parents came over from England- and we visited the Christmas markets... it snowed especially, and looked absolutely fabulous, despite being ABSOLUTELY freezing... about -6°C!!! And I couldn't even drink any gluehwein to keep me warm!

Ang, I know what you mean about dry skin... if anything I was always used to greasy skin, but I keep getting rashes on my face from dry skin... and my scalp is all flakey too... it's hideous!! Still, it'll all be worth it! I must have spent a fortune on face masks and creams (or dip, as DH likes to call it!) but it doesn't seem to be working.

Alicia, I'm glad that your doctor finally listened to you, so that you can start taking it a bit easy. How are you feeling now? Are you looking forward to your holiday??? Lucky you!! I'm off to England for two weeks in January (the closest I'll get to a swimming costume is if I decide to go to the local swimming pool!!!)- I'm really looking forward to catching up with friends and family- and will then be working in London for a couple of days too. Feel a bit guilty at leaving DH at home for over 2 weeks, to fend for himself...

Have any of you started your antenatal classes? I've booked mine- and they start on 17th Feb... the lady I spoke to sounded really friendly and asked when I was due, and said that if our little pumpkin is early we would miss some of the last courses.

I've also found somewhere that does aqua-aerobics for pregnant ladies, so will be joining that when I come back from my holiday.

My bump feels like it's really grown in the last couple of days... time for another measurement, me thinks!! The other day we could really feel where the little botty and head were... it was lovely! Have any of you had that?

Take care, write soon.
Hugs, Tanya

HI Ladies!

Tanya: Loved your bumps comment! Though some days it feels more like a mountain!

I got on the scale this am....after all of the Christmas eating and I need to tone it down with a bunch of salads & veggies! We go to 4 Christmas celebrations so there was way too much eating going on. NOt to mention the cookies sitting around etc.

Has anyone had their gestational diabetes test yet? My ob is doing mine at 28 weeks, so I need to get my blood sugar in order! The orange stuff I have to drink is already in the fridge. She sent it home with me the last appointment.

Alicia: When do you leave for Maui? I'm sooooo jealous. You'll be fab in your maternity swimsuit! (the ones at gap.com were cute!) Have a great trip if you haven't already left. So you're already used to the Heavenly Beds at the Westin Kanapaali...lucky you.

Tanya, & Janem: We're only 1 - 2 weeks from being in the 3rd trimester! I think between all of us, Cate is due to deliver last. So let's wait for her to hit 26 weeks and then we'll start a 3rd trimester thread.

All: Especially those of you with twinies! Probably the best advise I recieved with my first pregnancy was to buy a book titled "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child". It really helped a lot with what to expect and how to manage the sleeping routines. I gave to my friend with twins and she said she wouldn't have made it through without it.

Has anyone had a any nesting symptoms? I've been cleaning out closets (very unlike me), and buying organizers and all kinds of crazy stuff that is normally sooo not me.

Well ladies! Have a great week, I'm going to try to get my Christmas tree down as I'm having a bunch of guests over Jan 2nd for DH's b-day (and his twin sister).

Happy Christmas

Post by Cate »

Hello Paige and all
Thanks for the thought waiting for me to join you in third trimester very kind.
We had a lovely Christmas my Mother came to stay from Christmas Eve which was nice, the dinner went fine lots of nasty meat for my Mum and Paul to eat!!
Paul bought Jessie and I video camera phones she has been sneeking around filming and recording God I nag and have a squeaky voice!! The best thing was though it snowed in Liverpool Christmas night which was amazing I can't remember when that last happened Jess was beside herself they both went out sledging brought back memories of their Lapland trip. |I rather sadly had to watch from the front door!! To nervous of falling over.
My best friend is up and today we are taking the children to see a Jack and |the Beanstalk Panotomime we go every year between Christmas and New Year last year Madge got up on stage!!!! It will be lovely to see her she lives in Whitstable now we have been best friends since we were five in primary school it's the first time I will have seen her since the summer when we started all of this. I can't wait to show her my bump!

I hope you all had a brilliant time though we all got the presents we wanted any way when we started expecting, every now and then when I'm grumbling about heartburn I take a peak on the other forums you have to appreciate how lucky we all are, it's all still going on all the two week waits and disappointments it's heart breaking really. Here I go again I'm very emotional at the moment. We go for our twenty week can tommorow can't wait Jess coming too just have to hope I don't see too much of anything or not!!!??? Stay in touch Cate xxxx

Hi Ladies:

Not a whole lot going on, winding down from the holiday, still trying to find a home (cleaning out closets) for all of the stuff my 4 yr old received for Christmas. Thursday I'll be 26 weeks, I can't believe it. Though, with all of the activities going on for the holidays in Nov/Dec, it's been going pretty fast. Unfortunately Feb/Mar will not be the same. We usually take a vacation somewhere warm in Feb/Mar, but will be stuck home! I've been getting babysitters quite a bit to go out to dinner and the theater with dh, because I know in April that is going to come to a crashing halt!

Cate: How did your scan go? I really liked every time I had one scheduled, it was always fun to actually see the little person you're hauling around.

I hope everyone is doing great!

My scan 21 weeks

Post by Cate »

Hello Paige and everyone!
The scan went really well Paul and Jess had the best view though! The baby has everything it's supposed to have and we saw little toes and fingers and spine and ribs Jess thinks she saw it sucking it's thumb!! I reminded the woman about printing the picture but didn't want to keep hounding her as I had already asked her not to let slip what sex the baby is, and she was pulling all the funny puzzled expressions that frighten the life out of me needless to say everything was okay but I came away with no picture....!
We have another scan in four weeks I'm not leaving the building without a picture!
I am taking part in a vitamin trial for pre eclampsia I had it with Jess and have high blood pressure anyway so I'm ideal it just consists of two tablets a day they might be real but could be dummies. one of them looks like you should stick it up your bottom which brings back nasty pessary memories!
It was quite funny really as the midwife was explaining food diary size of portion etc to me and I had just done my speech about I doubted it could be to do with diet as I am healthy veggie. I had to list what I had had previous day. We had been panto.

Consisted of
Breakfast Co Co pops
Lunch Bag of Minstrels (small)in theatre
Dinner Veg hot and spicy pizza in Pizza hut washed down with diet Coke
Supper Glass of Champagne because my best friend was home!!
It was embarrassing but thankfully she let me off as everyone eats worse at this time of year.
It is becoming obvious I am pregnant to look at now also Jess finally felt baby move when I was lieing down still on my bed the other night which was thrilling for her.
Second to last day before Jess back to school we have had her best friend round since 8.15am up to now been bowling hoping to head out for a walk just now as weather bit better it's been really windy.
Anyway hope all doing and feeling really well

HI Guys:

Have been down and out with the flu. Unbelievably miserable. REally tried to focus on not dehydrating myself as it can induce labor. Finally up and about again. My abs are sore from all of the vomiting while they are so stretched out. I don't wish it on anyone. I called my clinic and asked what to take/do, and I was like "I got a flu shot!" and the nurse informed me it was for the respitory flu not the stomach flu. Great.
Maybe this will be the first month I don't gain weight when I go to the Dr. 8)

Poor you, Paige... that sounds really horrendous. Hope that you're resting lots and getting all nice and healthy again.

Cate, I can't believe that the sonographer didn't give you a picture... surely these people must realise how much a picture does for us?!?!?! Make sure you get one next time... in fact, refuse to leave until they give you one!!!

Am now on my lovely 2 week break.... bliss!! We went to buy the buggy on Friday (a bugaboo.... sooooo cool and really maneuvreable) and car seat etc... and ordered our little princess's bedroom furniture.... it's so beautiful, I can't wait to get it home!!! I have also been going a bit mad buying all the other stuff too... but if DH had said I was allowed to start buying earlier, I would have spread it out a bit better!!! YEAH, right!!!! 8) Have any of you started preparing and buying stuff?

Hope the rest of you are all well... give your bumps a stroke (measured mine yesterday and only gone up 1cm- so about 40.5"- weight gain just over 6kg or 13lb- but no hiding the bump! She definitely has some really active days- so much so that I had to scream out OUCH in the middle of a meeting... I think it kind of shocked my colleagues! )

Take care and write soon,
Tanya

HI Preggy Ladies:

Is anyone having HORRIBLE heartburn? I'm getting up in the night to throw up...it's that bad. I don't know what to do....I've taken Tums and I've tired Chewable Papaya Enzyme and nothing is cutting it. Here I am after midnight at the computer instead of sleeping because each time I lay down acid goes all the way up my throat to my mouth. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Paige, re. heartburn. I found carrots helped, sounds crazy but they work. I kept a bag of those tiny baby carrots in the fridge and by the bed and munched on those. I also chewed chalky indigestion tablets suitable for pregnancy. I liked the calcium content too.

hth - heartburn's a b*tch in the middle of the night.
Debra.
