Hi Moni welcome to the board. The sniffing is usually with Synrela/Synerela or similar which is a downregging drug to stop your natural cycle. Varies slightly but people usually have about 2 weeks of this before starting stimulation drugs like Puregon.

good luck
Debra.

Hello All,
There are so many different protocols that it is confusing. I guess we all have much the same things done to us but using different drugs and ways of getting the drugs into us. I've been sniffing Syneral spray (for downregging) for 4 days now and am feeling fine - nose it a little sore but it was last time. Not looking forward to the injections as they've changed them from my last treatment as I didn't respond too well (only had 6 eggs). Although the nurse said that was ok 'For someone my age'. The consultant still thought they'd try something different but it means mixing the stuff so I guess it is 'normal injections' not the pen (had puregon last time).
Well the fun continues so PMA to all.
Keep smiling

Love

so many drugs..so many reactions! I am really getting excited now that we are starting this week. friday is d day or sniff day. have read various things about how that might affect me..from sore noses to foul moods..yikes! the thing that concerns me most is that noone knows that we are having ivf (apart from 2 v close friends) and we have quite a lot planned for the next two weeks so will be seeing plenty of people. i want to try and keep on as normal while not exhausting myself.

has anyone any real tips for how to give myself the best support? am I likely to be more emotional than normal? feel ill or tired? i know you cant generalise about these things really.

am counting on my acupuncture to see me through! from tomorrow I am increasing it to once a week until the first cycle is over. trying to eat as healthily as poss. does everyone tend to give up drinking too? I hear that lots of water is a real help, so along with the good food and vits I will surely be the mother theresa of the healthy eating brigade!

must admit there is a part of me which is secretly hoping that this month it may just happen nsturally.. but it hasnt any other, so why now?!! if anyone going through a cycle now is at the Lister would be good to know as you may be able to give me some advance warning of how things are done!

it is great reading all of your posts and i am wishing you all masses of luck in these next few weeks. hard to add anything more as it is all yet to happen. roll on friday!

p.s Debbie - six eggs sounds just fine to me...only takes one!

Hello all,
Things seem to be going ok for me - although I am feeling bloated and a bit tired.
Minnow - I guess we can all reel off symptoms that you might get once you begin sniffing! I think that I've been fairly lucky but overall I think I just generally feel washed out and lethargic. I guess that I have been a bit more emotional than normal and I'm certainly VERY aware of how many pregnant women and babies I see.
I'm not sure what you can do to cope with this. I try to keep work to a minimum (not easy with my job), try to get DH to do as much as possible (fat chance) and generally try to look after myself but none of these have really helped me to feel better. Best of luck for tomorrow. You'll be really on the road then. I cetainly feel more positive when this starts as it feels as if I'm actually doing something rather than just waiting.

Hope everyone is coping ok.

Love

Thanks for the warm welcome, girls! And thanks for letting me in on your sniffing practice. They should come up with a medication that your partner needs to massage into your back twice daily, shouldn't they?!

Minnow - you asked about the best support for yourself and what might happen. I guess that is so different with everyone.

During my first cycle I didn't have any side effects whatsoever. Other than that I looked like a drug addict because of all the bruises on my arms and tummy. My last practice loved to take blood nearly every other day, and I needed to do injections twice daily. But still, I didn't think it was such a big deal.

The second cycle was quite different, this time I needed only one round of injections every morning, and nearly no blood screens have been done. But my breasts became huge and sensitive (he just digged it ...), and I felt very bloated all the time. One could have worried to stick another needle into the blown-up tummy, it might have caused an explosion.

I feel the best support for yourself is to endulge yourself: eat well, take a rest whenever you want, treat yourself as you would be sick and have a right to eat chocolate and to stay in bed for hours. Or do anything else you want. Just don't read medication leaflets! That stops you from waiting for side effects. Until today I have no idea about any drug I used. I couldn't even tell you what I took this time, although it has been just a few weeks ago.

As for drinking: I stopped to drink coffee and alcohol, stopped smoking, took up Yoga again, and took my vitamins. I think we all handle that similar.

And yes, all of a sudden every pregnant woman in 100 km reach will try to go shopping in YOUR supermarket! Especially where I live must be a nest of them.

Good luck to you all! Hang in there! It's all for the best! It's modern medicine!

morning everyone! have sniffed for the first time! so glad to have finally started and feel we are doing something positive. from here on on we shall see what happens.

I have been feeling so well and full of energy in recent weeks, I am dreading feeling wiped out and exhausted. i see a lovely acupuncturist who has told me to ensure I have a sleep every day after lunch in order to build up some reserves for the weeks ahead! luckily, i finished work in december and am taking a couple of months before getting going again, so this reall is the perfect time. still eating well and taking vits and from now on until end of this cycle I will stop drinking although i am already a pathetic lightweight!

keen to hear how others are getting on. you've all given some really lovely advice which is a great boost. i cant give any advice as such but want you all to know I'm rooting for you and hoping for some great results.

Good luck with the sniffing Minnow.

I'm still feeling ok - sort of, although I am still feeling really tired (went to bed at 8 last night and still slept all night). I'm also feeling quite sick today. I don't remember feeling like that last time. Maybe it's nothing to do with the drugs and is just a bug I've picked up!!! I think that I have a tendency to attribute everything to the drugs and forget that we all get sick at some time and coincidences do happen.

Now I'm fed up of sniffing and want to move on to the next stage but my next appointment isn't until 7th Feb. Af needs to show up and be finished by then for me to standa chance of begining the next stage on 8th Feb. It's day 7 of sniffing today and last time af showed up on day 9 so I'm hoping it is about the same this time.

Hope everyone is keeping their PMA :D :D

hi. glad things are going smoothly so far debbie. hope it's the same for everyone else. i'm not on day 4 of down regging. all going fine and no real side effects that i've noticed, although on day 2 i have to say I became the biggest ***** from hell and argued all day, much more so than usual! maybe i'm more anxious that i have realised.

still secretly holding out hope that i may have got pregnant naturally this month, but i think i feel AF on its way. had a quick cry about that last night as i think for me it signified i had reached a real turning point. still, at least we are lucky enough to be having IVF and the possibilities that offers. looking forward now to getting going for real...

hope you are all feeling well and positive.

Hello All,
Glad things seem to be going ok with you Minnow. I think that we all get very anxious but just manage to hide it well most of the time. I was told that we were to ensure that I didn't get pg the month of starting sniffing - did you not get told the same thing?

I've been patiently (well, sort of) waiting for af to show up with no luck so far. I have a clinic appointment next monday and af needs to have been and gone if I am to have any hope of begining injections on 8th Feb. I guess the next few days will fix that or not. Just typical when you are waiting for her to show up!!!!!! Generally feeling like I want to burst into tears and 'off colour' now but nothing too serious, so maybe it is pmt?

Hope everyone else is hanging on in there. Is anyone else sniffing, or injecting yet?

PMA

Hi Ladies

Do you mingd if I join the group.

I started downregging on 24 November but had problems with my womb lining thinning so a pre christmas cycle is now a Feb one, the joys!

Anyway I am booked in for a FET on 17 Feb, this will be my 6th attempt, so fingers crossed.

How are you all coping?

Minnow I saw your post about AF, the synarel does mess up your system, it induces temporary menopause so that they can manipulate your hormones so its nothing to worry about that your periods are a wee bit late.

I don't think any treatment ever goes the same way twice or the same way for different people.

Speak to you all soon

hi - i suppose it's no surprise to hear that Synarel can play havoc with your system. thanks for the v clear explanation wendy of what is happening at this stage. noon had put it in such simple terms before and that's a real help when all of this is new. i guess Debbie and I will just have to hope that things show pretty soon so we can get on with the next stage. at the moment i am feeling pretty rough with a slight cold and a sore throat and the bitteerness of the drugs does little to help. overall though i'm feeling fine. have my lovely acupuncture session later today so that should help...

2 weeks today and you will be having that transfer wendy- time must be dragging i suppose. really good wishes for that and lets hope this is the cycle that things really work out. how many do you have frozen?

love to all
