Little feet....

Post by harri »

I don't know if anyone else has my problem (if it is one!) but I am thinking about getting a puppy (have just been to see some and am feeling rery broody!). I m not sure if it's a substitute for the lack of little feet in my life or a decision I may live to regret later!! I know a puppy will be no compensation for a baby I have wanted a dog for a long time (I used to have one years ago but my ex got custody!). DH was not too keen but has agreed if it makes me happy and says I need to mother something (probably instead of him!!!!!!).
I know a dog is for life and not a decision to be taken likely but I just wondered whether anyone else has been/is in similar situation and whether it was a good or a bad move!!
Thanks guys! :D

I think do anything that makes you feel happy! :D

However, friends had young dog/baby and found the combination a nightmare! I guess it depends what kind of dog you are planning!!!

Thanks Lumi I think you are right about whatever makes you happy. Mind you , I also know what you mean about having a puppy and a baby - still, if it turns out that I get the puppy and then find i'm pregnant - that would be one sod's law I could live with!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D

Well Harri here I am and ttc 5+ years and we have........not1, not2, not 3, but 4 doggies

They have all been rescued and come from rescue centres.

We got the first one (wooky, then 3 bearded collie/shaggy carpet mix) just after my back operation as I knew I needed motivation for exercise, and that's why we then moved to the country from London. Then we got Slim (fat boy slim, whippet/greyhound cross) rescued from Gypsies after he wasn't fit to run races anymore. Then we got spot (then called ferrari, Greyhound) and then we moved to Germany. After being here 3 months heard that the local home had German Shephard/Husky mixes with aggressive mum who had kicked them out.. and desperate for homes for them from experienced dog owners...we went to see them and came back with Anuschka, sooooooooooooooooooooooooo

All I can say is that they are wonderful company, they keep me fit and laughing, they are fantastic with kids (that takes seriuos training) and I love them to bits. Yes tyhey are my substitute babies, of course they are, but they are also the reason that we have a healthy lifestyle and that I manage to keep my depression at bay..........a walk on the beach but never alone..going for a walk without dh is a "Ben Hur" experience!!!

I'll send you a piccy if you like??

Love from germany bigJ

Hi Harri,

I also have a dog, and he is fantastic with children! I was myself during my childhood raised between many cats and dogs! And there were my best friends! It was good to always have someone to play with!

As an adult, I still enjoy having someone to talk to when I am lonely (and we never argue!! ).
The only minus I can find when you have a dog, is that you have to find someone to look after it for holidays as so many places do not accept them...
But it is nothing compare to the joy that your pet can bring you!

And taylorJ, what a big heart!!
I wish my house was big enough to adopt many more!!

Take care

Ive got two cats at the moment. Over the years I have been TTC I do tend to get more pets the more broody im feeling. I also had 2 hamsters and two rabbits. I would love another cat or Dog but don't think DP would be quite so keen.

I say go for it though, if it will make you happy

I have two cats and a bunny and they are my babies (especially the cats - the bunny is not keen on cuddles!)

Do what ever makes you happy Harri - I think it would be great for a baby/child to grow up in a house with pets

I have a cat at 6 1/2 and a 'puppy' who is 16 months old now (a 6 stone Rottweiler now, who is a big baby), i told myself that she was not a substitute baby, however deep down i know that she is! - but she takes my mind off all the bad times and gives me exercise!

It is great everyone comes out with us to Country Fairs and Fun Dog Shows in the summer and everyone has a great time especially Holly! (my baby)

Harri

I wanted to do the same (only DH has an allergy :!: Well so he says :!: )

I think it is a wonderful idea and something to keep you occupied whilst you are going through the treatment is always very helpful.

Go for it :!:

Did u see 'footballers wives' last night???

If you did you'll know what I am on about.... But that dog on there worried me.

Basically for those who dont know what i am on about.... the dog sat on the baby, it ended that way so I am assuming the baby is suffocated.

Very sad. I did feel quite upset afterwards.

Nicola

I know what you are saying, but remember that is the same programme that gave us .... an hermaphodite baby, dodgy condoms, bi-sexual homophobics(!), murder and women who have babies then whoosh figures back to normal (like we believe that happens :? ).

It was great viewing though - one of my real girls-night in moments :!:
