Hi Becky, congrats how exciting. I hope the wait doesn't drag too long. I would be really gratfeul to know how long it all took. I am on a ivf cycle at the moment (and know I shouldn't be thinking the worst but I am) and I have decided that this will be my last treatment. I also want to adopt a baby (from abroad becuase being a social worker I know how difficult it is to adopt babies from this country). Would be sooo gratfeul to hear you adoption story so far.
Thanks

Becky M,

That is brilliant news - and it seem so soon. How long did the adoption process take?? I am doing my 5th IVF in January, but getting pretty fed up with it. I will be 40 in July, and am keen to get on with life! You know how one puts things on hold all the time etc... Maddening thing is I got a +ve but then m/c (I got a low positive at the same time as you....) I keep getting told that it should be possible to get pregnant, and keep holding out for it - but at the same time I am desperate to adopt aswell.

Oh do tell us more,
Nicky

Becky,

I have just come onto the site after a long time away - couldn't really bring myself back here until now. Anyway, 5 ivf attempts and then told ovarian reserve low so we are now considering adoption.

So pleased to see that you have passed the panel - life must seem exciting again? I would love to hear from you to let me (and everyone else know) how to go about the process of adopting abroad. If you could let us know of the agency you used and some of the steps it would be really helpful.

I wish you all the very best of luck over the next year.
Love

hello old friends! this is our update. Our documents are just about to be sent out to China - they went to the Chinese Embassy last night and hopefully should be out in China by the middle of February. Then it will be a 6 month wait until we get the referral picture - sometime in mid-August I expect. I'm already so excited and writing out lots of lists though haven't dared to buy anything yet!! just so superstitious after last year.

For those of you interested in timescales - we contacted our local authority intercountry adoption team at the start of Jan last year, having suffered my m/c in Dec. We did our consultation day in Feb up in London and then did three prep days in April, May also up in London. We started our homestudy in May with most of the visits (8 in total) in May, June and July and then went to panel in Sept. Our papers then went up to whitehall and have been there ever since (apart from when we had to notarise them down here mid-way through) and are likely to be sent to China in the next 2-4 weeks. Then there will be a 6-7 month wait until referral - we will get a picture and a medical report. She is likely to be about a year old (born already - strange thought!!). Then we shall travel out to China about 6 weeks later. The adoption community is tremendously supportive. We already have so many friends through it (one of whom is now one of my best friends and we got in touch with each other on this site initially!!!) She is adopting domestically and going to panel next week.

If you are interested in overseas adoption for more info you can join Oasis which is an international support group for parents of adopted children from overseas - their webpage is www.adoptionoverseas.org. (I am the membership secretary for this organisation!) Those of you interested in adopting domestically the website is www.adoptionuk.org.uk. for the support group. One point though as someone has already raised, it is quite difficult to adopt babies in the UK. People I know have done it but the wait seems to be longer than adopting from China. Good luck to those of you embarking on this trip. It's certainly a rollercoaster but there's lots of support on the way. I have been invited into so many people's houses last year to meet their kids and it is amazing how many people come out of the woodwork when you say you are adopting to say "Oh, we have adopted kids!" 4 in my school alone.

I will keep you all posted on our progress.

Becky

I am so pleased for you. You must be so excited. I hope the time flies and you get to have your beautiful daughter home with you in no time. What a journey you have had. Congratulations!!

It is lovely to hear from you and I can sense the excitement in your post.

I have had ages off the boards to get my head straight. I have just lost another baby at 8 weeks and I am so unhappy inside myself. I was planning on coming back and posting on the pregnant after IVF boards once the scan showed all was well but it was terrible news for us so I don't know what I am going to do. It's still early days so who knows.

Keep us informed on your progress - I shall be looking in anticipation to hear the next installment.

Love Dagny xkx
