Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds......

Post by DebraP »

Ok....as I was daft enough to mention starting a healthy eating thread, here goes :wink:

I'm open for suggestions but why don't we keep it totally positive? no beating ourselves up over chocolate biscuits? no negative 'I'm so terrible, I ate 2 doughnuts' type posts. Each day, those of us who want to take part can post two things they've done which contribute to their goal of being healthier.

Eg. Post if you:
* do something active
* forgo something unhealthy
* eat a healthy meal
* drink your 2 litres of water etc.

Let's not aim for the moon, we've enough challenges already, just two small steps at a time with daily advances towards our goal. What's that lovely expression, the longest journey begins with one step???

What do you think? I'll start. Today I:
1. had a large salad with unbuttered wholemeal bread + water for lunch.
2. Borrowing one from yesterday. I walked to the 5th floor of a building twice to reach a client's office.

Who's next?

Erm ... I did actually have ryvita with cottage cheese earlier (rather than bread with cheddar !), and a lovely healthy salad sandwich for lunch.

Joanne. The walks can begin tomorrow!

I don't like dogs at all but wondered about overcoming my fear and borrowing the giant schnautzer (sp?) from next door just to get me out and about :) he's huge so must need lots of walks etc.

Debra

I was out in the garden with mine today - he is great fun, I had my slippers at the top of the stairs and he came into my office to try and get my attention and because I ignored him he took one of my slippers and ran off with it :!: :roll:

My friend has a Newfoundland - he is a gentle giant, so you will probably find that with your neighbours dog too.

Am going in the garden this weekend too, love being outside when the weather is nice. What is the weather like with you??

Oh Debra! I think this is a wonder idea for a thread. I especially like the "no beating yourself up part".

Since I have been delayed and because my upcoming surgery is related to my unhealthy eating habits I have been on a health kick.

Today I ate five small meals, and I kept my calorie count within a healthy limit.

Actually, for the past week I have been very "mindful" of what I eat.
Everytime I think about eating something I think about whether I would give it to my child. Using that type of thinking I can no longer justify having a soda and snack cake for breakfast.

Yeah, me for losing weight the healthy way!

Thanks Jules...my biggest problem is lack of exercise. It's been 4 months since I went to the gym having gone OTT and badly damaged a knee. I went to a local pool this week and asked about water aerobics, lane swimming etc but she then said I shouldn't start within 6 weeks of the op......hmmmmm, back to the drawing board.

This thread is already making me think about what I eat = mission accomplished! DF and I have a date night at a wonderful restaurant so dinner's not going to help but I'll do what I can with lunch!

Good luck everyone

Debra - sorry you can't go swimming yet - makes it hard when you can't exercise - can you go for walks :?: Have you tried a pedometer - you are recommened 10 000 steps a day so I used to find I would go for a walk to get me there.

When I did WW two years ago I didn't do any exercise until the weight was off I just did heathly eating and points counting. I find it helps if you write down what you eat each day as then when you see in it black and white you think ahhhhhh

Special dinners are allowed after all we have been through we deserve it Oh yeah and they are calroie and guilt free :!: :!:

So far today I've had
Shreddies and skimmed milk
1 actimel
salad with ham and a small amount of pasta
and a muller light yoghart

This afternoon I have two bananas two kiwis and some grapes

and I am going to the gym (spinning class ahhhh :!: ) after work. I am being very good but I have only been doing it since wednesday :!: :!: This thread is brilliant and will help to keep me motivated on the bad days

Hope everyone else is ok

Love to all

Julie, you're going to inspire me I think. A pedometer might be just the thing. My parents are coming over next week so might ask them to pick me up a cheap one. The bought me a heart monitor for the gym back in March (b'day present) just in time for me to stop high impact exercise :( - off to see what Argos have online.

Thanks for the idea,
Debra (who will struggle to come up with 2 healthy things today)

Well, I've been starving all day .. but haven't had THAT much .. Have managed to include a a banana and an apple, instead of the malt loaf. Also, thought about a bag of crisps but resisted ... does that count ? :wink:

I AM having a curry tonight though ... but will just have one somosa rather than two.

Ha ha ..!
