QUESTION

Post by princess »

I know this is kind of personal but I was wondering how many of you went back to having sex when you found out your were expecting.
We abstained from 2 days before ET. And found out on Sat that we are expecting but both DH and I are afraid of having sex right now.
Any answers will help.
Thanks
Love
Joy

Hi Joy

Me and DH are exactly the same! In fact we have abstained since approx 2 weeks before ET, mainly because my ovaries were sore and bloated from the drugs. They are still sore and bloated and I just still feel fragile.
Maybe its worse during IVF treatments because as well as recovering from the drugs, you dont want to risk anything even though you might be told its safe. Im glad its not just us!

Hi Joy!

Some clinics do seem to vary, but ours said to wait until 12 weeks. I am happy with that as it's all so nerve racking and would rather not risk anything now. DH has raised eyebrows about that though!!!

Good luck!

Wow 12 weeks.
They told us we just had to wait until the pregnancy test and after that we were fine. I still have to go to the clinic a few more times but I also need to make an appointment with my obgyn. I think we will wait to see what the obgyn says.
Kim no it's defenitly not just you, we are both very edgy. We want to but both are scared, I didn't know DH was scared until last night when I brought it up. That made me feel better because I know it's not just me. Ya know?

We've always abstained during tmt (the scans + meds turn me right off anyway) and with our one pg we waited until 12 weeks. I was WAY too scared to risk anything, even though many people don't wait this long.

Alette, the books are right. I don't know that it's anything biological but the middle trimester is usually relaxed and happy. The first trimester has passed safely but it's still before tummies get too bulky and uncomfortable. For us at least, the middle trimester was very active!

princess:
My clinic told us we had to wait until pregnancy test. Once we got our positive results the dr said it would be fine to return to normal sexual activity. We have had sex 2 or 3 times since then and then past weekend afterward I THINK I saw a little blood so now I am really scared. I think I will probably wait now until 12 weeks. It's better to be safe than sorry!
Good luck!

You'll probably all die of shock here, but my last pregnancy both me and DH were too scared to have sex at all, so we didnt. We did everything else but no penetration, I was too scared after having baby to so I waited til baby was 3 months old (Ihad been torn pretty bad) poor DH went without sex for at least 12 months. :(
I dont know this time though. We were allowed to do it after pg test but still darent.
My DH is as just as scared as I am!

Susie, I don't think you're that unusual. After DD was born (via emergency c-section) I couldn't even think of sex. I think it was 10 weeks or so until we tried again.

I also remember my BIL refused to have sex with his wife from the day they tested. He couldn't get the picture out of his mind and so that was that for 8.5 months!
