On a roller-coaster ride!

Post by trying in greece »

Well Ladies, this week has had so many highs and lows. Monday was EC day. All went well as far as that goes. But within an hour after I was in so much pain I could not walk. And normally I try not to cry, and just keep things to myself, but this was unbearable. Some of the worst pain I have ever felt in my life!

Tuesday dawned a bit better, the pain had subsided to a managable level.

Wednesday, a little more progress on the pain, and a 3 hour drive to Athens to get my babies! We collected 12 eggs, 9 were successfully fertilized with ICSI.

A side note: I have PCOS and I was on 75 units of gonal f for 10 days, produced over 40 follicles and did EC on day 12!

Needless to say, I responded too well to the meds. And my hormone levels did not come down, and the bloating and swelling was out of control.

So, we did not transfer. What a difficult day. We now have 9 little embryopsicles! And we will try again next month.

The problem with this is taking another month off work. I am in Greece and I live and work in the states. 2 months is a long time!! My boss was pretty cool, but I could tell he was ticked. Oh well, my family is most important to me right now.

I hope you all have more success than I did.

Good Luck,
Elisa Sophia

Hi Elisa - Gosh it really does sound like a roller-coaster, but I'm sure that it was the right decision to wait before putting them back. And look on the bright side - you get a few more weeks to enjoy being in Greece. Hope you're somewhere near the sea? Best wishes

Elisa

I am so sorry about your situation. It does seem to be one thing after another on occasions doesn't it?

I wish you a very speedy recovery and hope that you have a successful transfer next month.

Good luck and take care.

Big hugs and PMA

Little P :D

Elisa Sophie. Congratulations on getting so many frosties, it must be reassuring to know you've so many chances waiting for your hormone levels to return to normal.

Yes it does sound like you responded very, very well to the meds. At least you've avoided OHSS, have the clinic suggested lots of fluids?

Good luck and I hope it's not too hot over there now.

Elisa Sophie:
Sorry to hear about all the problems. It breaks my heart. The whole process is so difficult to start with and then you get thrown curve balls.

I have a question which you don't have to answer.... Why are you in Greece doing this? Why not in the states if you work over here. I also live in the states and I just had my first successful transfer.

I'm really glad you got some to save. We were not so lucky! We didn't get any to freeze even though 14 fertilized they just didn't grow. :(

Best of luck! I really hope it works!!!

Wow, what a roller coaster ride!!!

I know too well about roller coaster rides, but your sounds lots more scarier than mine!

I hope that all is ok and you get there in the end. Im sure you will.
Whats Greece like there at the moment ?
TTC 6yrs......Have jumped off the rollercoaster for now, too many BFN's and too much heartache, to keep going....Moving on to fulfil other dreams!!!

Elisa Sophia

That is exactly what happened to me - I have PCOS, produced over 30 follies and so I am on my second FET.

It is very disappointing when you dont have transfer right away as that is what you have been waiting for! However, excellent number sweetie!!!

Keep drinking lots of fluid and go to the hospital if you get bad pains!!! Watch out for dreaded OHSS

It does take a while to feel 'normal' again.

Mil, in response to your question... Being in Greece is multi-faceted, but one of the main factors is cost. It was only $5000 including drugs and including the $50 is cost us every time we go to the doctor - for gasoline and tolls. So, compared to the states, it was totally worth it. But, at the same time, we have a house here and a car, so if someone were to come from out of the country and need to pay for hotel, food, etc... I'm sure the cost would equal the states.

The whole story started when my husband came to the states for school. We fell in love and he wanted to move back to greece. We did, and it was fun for a while, but the economy is down and it is difficult to make money. I got a job offer in the states and went back. DH stayed in greece tying up lost ends. We found out we had fertility issues at the same time. So it just made sense for me to come here, do this and then we will go back to the states together.

It also helps to have a job i can do from the computer and 2 bosses who are the most amazing!!! I am still being paid while being in greece and going through all this.

sorry for the long post. My tummy is almost totally better now, and I am really looking forward to the next few weeks of relaxation and then our happy transfer!!

:) Elisa Sophia

Hi Elisa Sophia ... I can imagine your disappointment at not being able to move onto ET, but with the way your felt at the time it was the right decision I'm sure. Just make sure you spend this next month making sure your body's as fit as can be to accept those baby embies back...It'll give you something to focus on.

Good luck ..
