Hi everyone, and welcome to our new members from the sunny north - although from the sounds of it, it is a bit too sunny at the moment.

Bella - so sorry to hear about your result; many people on the general board have positive stories to tell after early disappointment and I wish you the best of luck.

Bel - how exciting!!! are you excited? I'm excited for you! There are 22 months between Declan and Grace and I was breastfeeding when I fell pregnant - although suplementing with a bottle, as Dec was at daycare during the day, breastfeeding in the morning and at night. I kept feeding him until I was about 8 weeks and then had dreadful morning sickness (all day sickness), and stopping feeding helped.

Dec turned 12 on Thursday and has 3 boys from his class for a sleepover - two of them have stayed before, and the third is a nice kid, but together they are all a bit feral..... I am hiding on the computer while DP wrangles them from pizza to videos.... so it should be safe to for me to emerge soon!

Went to the obst. on Friday, we have now reached fortnightly appointments, which makes everything seem frighteningly real - 28 w, 2d today. My blood pressure has gone up again (from 120 to 130 to 140 over four weeks). I was able to go to Tassie and see mum and dad which was great, as I won't see them again until they come over in March for the C'wealth games (plus baby viewing, of course). Talked with Dr about possiblilty of leaving work early, which would suit me - we are going through a restructure, and I am effectively working 2 jobs, which is stressful as well as tiring. Unfortunately work is all or nothing, and part time hours can't be accomodated, so finishing up before Christmas would be good. I had planned to hang on to 20 January (baby is due 16 Feb), but need to balance health of all concerned. Will broach with work this week, and see what dr says at next appointment in a fortnight.

Apart from that, all is well - have developed varicose veins where you would have least thought possible, but no stretch marks (with previous weight fluctuation, I think there is still a bit of 'stretch' left in the old body yet). Passed the test for gestational diabetes, which is good, and following blood test have increased iron from 5mg(mcg?) to 80mg per day - no wonder I was getting tired!

What is everyone doing for Christmas?

hi girls ,
thanks heather, thankfully my hair is fine i agree with u to the injection stage is a bit exciting your finally doing something instead of waiting and counting down. although i'm not looking forward to the egg pick up, last time my diaphram and under my ribs were so sore. the docs increased my dose to 300 for 8 days at this point and i guess he'll decide if he wants me to have extra days after he checks out how many i've made which he said is likely. last time i had 8 follicles and only two could be used i don't know if he put us through for egg pick up to early last time not giving them enough time to mature thats only our theory though anyway hopefully this time we'll have a better result and with any luck well have extras for the next cycle if this does'nt work (touch wood it will though) hi Belb great to see you now have a plan something great to look forward to. best go now, hope everyone is well.

till next time jo.

Hiya Ladies

Bel, that is so exciting! I am so happy that your appointment went well and that you now have a plan in place for the future. It must be a bit of a relief to have made some definite decisions...no more tooing and froing! Great that the breastfeeding is not a problem either...good result all round. Thanks for the info about Wazza, I had heard that he was no longer leaving and it did put me into a bit of a spin, but I am happy with my decision and will see how everything goes with our appointment on Thursday. At least if that doesn't work out, I have some other options to look at.

Jo (Melbourne Jo), great to hear from you. Glad you got home to see your parents, I hope they spoilt you rotten. I can't believe how quickly the time has passed...February will be here in the blink of an eye! I think finishing work early would be a good thing, your workplace sounds a bit chaotic at the moment and with moving house and everything I am sure that you could use some more you time! As far as Xmas goes, we are having a quiet one in Rockhampton. I am a bit sad as I haven't been home for three years and I had planned to spend the holidays in Canberra but with upcoming treatment and all the leave that that will involve I just can't manage it. We figure that with all the waiting around that treatment involves, we will have plenty of time to pop down to Canberra and catch up with everyone. Still, I wish I was spending Christmas with my beautiful nephews! Will you be enjoying Xmas in your new house?

Kingaroy Jo, hope the injections are going ok and are working their magic on those follicles. When is your tentative date for EC? Hopefully it will be much more pleasant this time and much more productive. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

We had our FET scheduled for yesterday....of the embies, 1 was MIA, one didn't make the thaw and the other one was looking great on Friday but really hadn't done much over night. They agreed to let us leave it for another night to see what happened and they have just telephoned to let us know that it is still hanging in there but really not doing much. We decided not to proceed as the likelihood of a pregnancy was very small. I feel pretty ok with that as I wasn't expecting either of them to survive the thaw. I am looking forward to a couple of months of no drugs and just focussing on getting healthy again. I have been walking every day (my poor old dogs hate me), doing my exercise DVD (my abs already feel tighter although a long way to go before they reach the washboard stage) and I am revelling in the joys of healthy summer food. I am hoping that the weather improves so I can start using the pool...we braved it last weekend but the water is still a bit cool.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Cheers

Hi guys,

Lovely to read everyones posts, I really did feel as though I was hogging our thread there for a bit! :D

Heather, so glad that youa re happy with your Sydney decision, and as you say, you have a back up plan (not that you'll need it hopefully! :D ). I was sorry to hear about the defrosting outcome, very dissapointing, but as you say, this is an opportunity to get healthy, be drug free and focus on preparing your body for your next cycle. We haven't braved the pool as yet, Annie goes to swimming lessons once a week and the pool is a lovely outdoor heated pool which is great. Our backyard pool is in full sun, so you would think it would be quite warm, but my tests to date indicate that it is bloody freezing!!!!!

Hey Jomae, glad that your hair is intact. I found I really lost lots of it during early breastfeeding, I would lose handfuls of it, the sink would clog up in the shower..dreadful!!..so you have all that to look forward to!! When do you think you'll be heading in for egg collection?

Hey Melbourne Jo, yep, we are excited (I think!!) about starting a new cycle. The logistics of having two small kids does frighten me a tad, but then I'm more frightened that it WON'T work and I'll have built up my hopes that Annie will have a sibling, all for nothing. It really is a rollercoaster of emotional highs and lows isn't it..And I really don't think it's any easier going through IVF when you already have a child..I kind of thought it might be (you know, placate myself by saying "well if it doesn't work we have Annie etc etc etc"), but then I get sad that she might be an only child. Which I am actually quite comfortable with (the whole only child thing), but I would like to have at least tried for a brother or sister for her. Glad that you'r pregnancy is progressing well, great that you passed the gestational diabetes test too..I see lots of women with Varicose Veins in pregnancy as an OT. We prescribe compression stockings with adjustable tummy panels that support everywhere (including the pubis..sorry if tmi), but they can make a HUGE difference.

Annie and I are doing well, Johnie is playing golf this morning and we had a little friend of Annie's come over to play. Life is good.

Take care all
Belinda

Good Sunday Morning to all,

Belinda! so glad to hear that your appointment went well on Friday. I agree with you on the whole IVF thing for second baby, just because you have one kiddy already that couldn't make this thing any easier the second time around. I have my fingers crossed for you.

Bella, has AF shown yet? hope it's not giving you any physical pain...I'm so sorry about what you are going through - I promise you, you are not alone we are all here for you whenever you need any words of comfort.

Jomae, I am sure the doc will get it right for you this time. I hope you are going to have a lovely harvest, so good luck and here's to a wonderful fertilisation and successful ET...Btw when is OPU day?

Josie, sounds like a super idea to finish up your work before Christmas. You are an amazing woman, I still wonder how you manage your career, pregnancy, family and your move all at same time! My hubby and I are off to UK for Christmas this year, we fly out on 22nd Dec (^.^).

Heather, hugs to you matey. I am sorry that the frosties didn't survive the thaw.... do make the most of this IVF free period... I like your attitude; all the PMA and healthy schedule will no doubt help you with the next tmt - yay.

Catch you all soon. Cheers, Tiger

Hi girls
I have to go back to Brissy next friday for my scan and depending on the progress i would suspect we'd be in for EC on the 5th or 6th of Dec but the doc did say he'll probably lenghthen this round longer than the 8 days we had for the previuos cycle. i hope i don't go in much later my though my dog Molly (we call her Moz)is due to have puppies around the 10th and i'd like to be there to make sure everything goes ok. On her last litter she lost the first pup we think she had the first pup about 10 mins before i got home from work and because she hadn't got the bag of her properly we could'nt do anything to help it. so we definately want to be there at the expected time to keep an eye on them.
tiger sorry to sound to silly but what does btw and opu day mean i have been reading other post to try and work most of the codes that everyone seems to know but me, so if you can help me out with these two i'll appreciate it and won't feel so stupid.
Thanks again everyone for writing to me my hubby and i are finding it all educational and entertaining.

take care all jo

Hi Jo,

don't you be silly!! you're not stupid, no way. Everyone is the same when they first come here, really, abbreviations are difficult to get used to, so not to worry :). OPU is Ovum Pick Up, that is same as EC, Egg Collection. And Btw is By the way.

Have a lovely Monday.

Cheers, Tiger

Hi Tiger,

Funny you ask, AF did show on Friday. I wasn't really expecting it. 'Cos of PCOS, I usually get AF so randomly (around every 2-4 months), and last BFN I took provera for 4 days before it showed. Anyway, it was a bit of a pain, but nearly over. I am trying so hard to be positive - I have appointment with the new clinic next month, and I keep telling myself next time is the one. I'm hoping they will start me asap - I have momentum with this PMA thing & I don't want to lose it!

Bel - I'm so exclited that you have a plan in place. Isn't it funny - we are always looking ahead to something, and if we're not, we feel empty. If the Feb cycle works, you will have a Valentines baby....how romantic!

Kingaroy Jo - I hope the needls are going well. Do you do them yourself? Do you have a definite date yet for EC?

Heather - Sorry to hear about your embies. Enjoy your break, and get nice & healther for next year. You're going to Sydney IVF too, aren't you?

Bella.

Hi guys,

Bella, yeah, I am definately a planner. Actually I have commented a few times to Johnie about the resiliance of couples on the fertility rollercoaster. I put my heart and soul into this process, and even now, I am breastfeeding, have severe endo and am seriously infertile, yet I feel devastated when old af visits. Yet then I calm down and start thinking about the fact that this is day one, we are cycling again and start to think about when I might be ovulating..Ridiculous really!, but a good demonstration of getting down and getting right back up again I guess. Part of me can't believe we're trying again, but the other is realy excited and can't wait until Feb!!..Interestingly we conceived Annie during a Feb FET cycle, so that might be good karma or something??

Jomae, good luck for your scan on Friday..will you and hubby do something nice in Brissy as well as visit QFG? We used to try to go for a meal or at least a coffee before or after just to lighten the mood a tad..

Tiger, any last minute shopping for the UK trip?, it'll be FREEZING over there!!!!

Hi Jo,

I always got the taste of it in the back of my throat - sometimes it felt like I was taking a shot of it! So it sounds normal to me, but I don't know everyone else's thoughts.

Hey Jo,
I always got the taste in the back of my throat too (yuck!!), but my understanding is that if you're tasting that then the drug is getting into your system. I had a cold in the middle of my cycle and always made sure I blew my nose and even steamed it clear before I sprayed..I am a tad perfectionist though!!!
Take care

Hi everyone!

Sorry I have not posted in a while - I have been really sick. It started out as larygitis, then developed to sinisitis with a secondary ear infection. I have been feeling terrible. I am on my third course of antibiotics & have been off work. I am getting worried as we are due to leave for our trip next week. I have been getting heaps of rest, but still feel terrible!!!

Wow, lots has been happening to everyone. Heather, I am really sorry about your frosties, but your attitude sounds really positive for you next cycle. Enjoy the drug-free period (I'm still loving it!!)

Belb - How exciting for you! It always feels good to make a decision & feel happy about it. I had a look at your photo of Annie's party - your cake looked fab!

I am so excited about our trip & hope this bloody infection clears up by then. I can't wait to get on the cruise & do nothing except eat, drink & lay by the pool.

Have a lovely day
