I lost my baby at about 17 weeks because of I.cervix in 1996. I had cerclage again at 11 weeks after 1 year when I was pregnant in 1997. Now I am going to have at 10 weeks(if all goes well. I am only 4 weeks2days now).

Hello ladies,

With regards to an incompetent cervix, I have two friends who have had this.

The first had recovered from cervical cancer and so had alot of her cervix removed. As a result she had a stitch with both her pregnancies and her wonderful children are now aged 6 and 9.

My other friend had her first child normally. She lost her second child at 24 weeks, then twins at 24 weeks by which time they finally diagnosed an incompetant cervix. With her last pregnancy she had a mcdonald stitch and despite a few scares and complete bed rest from 20 weeks, she delivered a healthy girl a few weeks ago.

I hope these experiences give you more confidence in the procedure.

Its such a miracle that this procedure works like it does...and so sad that they can't diagnose this condition before premature labor starts. I had this procedure twice; I will say my cervix wasn't so thrilled about dialating the last labor! (That was a switch..my labors were way too easy!) It is a blessing that I was ever able to have any children - after losing three - its very scary.

Have you ever noted the site, www.october15th.com, its a site for remembering our babies. I have a dear friend who just lost her son this week, he was 7 weeks old (SIDS) and I'll be attending the services this weekend. I found this site - and it is wonderful. They have gifts that commemorate the baby's life. I think I am going to order her something for her son, and may order myself something for my beautiful son, Bobby, who was born at 28 weeks and lived about 3 days.

Anyway, have a blessed Holdiay! Good luck on all your the upcoming events...

Yes I heard about that site after I lost my son at 22 weeks. I bought those stickers that say proud parents to an angel and we both put them on our car windows. I also bought pregnancy and infant loss awareness ribbon magnet off of ebay for my car. I found so many site's after I lost my son, because I was in soooo much shock over it. I hope to get pregnant again one day and experience a cerclage. Is is painfull? Do you feel it during your pregnancy? Was being on bed rest really hard, I'm the type of person who can't sit still very long, like a lot of people I'm sure. Talk to you all soon.

Hi Nicholas's Mom,

I was so glad to see that site; its nice to have a way to express our love for our babies!

I don't really remember feeling the stitches after the initial surgery; however, the removal of the stitches before the baby was due was pretty darn uncomfortable after being in there for so long! Since I went into labor at 4 months - I was in bed with my feet elevated for the entire rest of the pregnancy; the baby was sitting right on my cervix.

The second PG they did the surgery even earlier..waited for the 12 weeks and did the surgery right away. So - the pg went much better. But, my cervix developed scarring and just did not want to dialate...so that was an issue in labor!! But - it worked itself out - or rather the baby did anyway! Never so glad to see a little one arrive! LOL (I had my babies au-natural!) Its all worth it in the end.

Yes, it is all worth it in the end, I'm sure. To see your healthy baby. I hope someday it will be like that for me. I keep praying, I talk to my son all the time to help give me strength. It's just been really hard latley to look ahead and see that for me and my husband. Hopefully I will be a little bit better after the Holidays. Take care.

I'm sorry - I really meant that to sound hopeful - but I'm afraid it didn't come out that way.

When I had the first surgery - I was in the hospital with another woman who also had the same surgery. She had lost so many babies before they 1) figured out why and 2) how to help...I guess I just figure that now that your doctors have a plan, that you will hold a baby in your arms soon. I will keep you in my prayers! The Holidays are so hard...

No, don't worry, I knew what you meant. It's sometimes hard to write on the computer and hope that the person understands what you are trying to say. I would think by now that doctors would have some sort of test to see if you have and incompotent cervix before something like this happens. I hope the best for all of us, and hope we have the strength to get through the holidays. Take care. :P

How would you know if u have an incompetent cervix. Is there any sign or symptoms? Do u feel different from any pregnancy signs. I am 7 weeks pregnant and I just had my 1st scan last tuesday and I am having a twin. I feel heavy but i dun know if its normal. No pain or whatsoever just feeling heavy. Aside from eating a lot and also carrying 2 little ones but as I read ur post , it's making me worry now.I'm booked to see my doctor at the end of the month and definitely i'll bring this matter to him but firstly, just for assurance..is there any early signs or symptoms for this? Thanks in advance

divine,

This is not something that can be diagnosed so early...It usually becomes apparent in the second trimester and the only sympton is preterm labor contractions....I had one contraction before my water broke....There are no signs, however, if you have not had any trauma or surgery down to your cervix it is not a liekly occurance. You can always ask your dr about it in which case they will measure your cervical length in an ultrasound.

Nicholas Mom

Thanks for checking in, I was hoping or Jan but a stubborn bout of endometritis which I am hoping is finally clear if so I should start sims around the 16th of March!!! So maybe we can be pregnant together!! At least we can support together!!!! Keep me posted...I should have another biopsy in about 1.5 weeks so I will know then! Keep your chin up

I am coping otherwise - actually pretty well...I miss my sweet Connor and he will always be with me, he is my angel baby and I am sure that he will help his brother or sister into the world....

How are you coping?

Well, I'm glad to hear you are doing good and hope you will start in March with me and we will be pregnant together that would be great. I will keep thinking of you and hope that your test comes out ok for you to start.

I'm doing ok, I do think alot about Nicholas and I do miss him very much, but thinking of him and talking to him helps me go on to hopfully have a little brother or sister for him to look after. I'm sure Connor is hopping for that too. I wish you all the luck. Keep me up to date with your results and etc.

We are strong women, because we are a mother's of an angel.

Talk to you soon.
