Denise -

hey, take it easy - don't want you killing yourself on the icy roads!!

but I'm really glad you had a good appointment :D

I've got my 12 week scan tomorrow morning and the OSCAR scan and blood test next Wednesday. I was thinking that if the OSCAR goes well, I might stick my head round the second tri door... but will wait around here too! I know this is a dumb question - but when does the second tri officially start? end of 12 or 13 weeks?

I'm really looking forward to it - have been having really bad headaches every day... and sickness, but the headaches are worse... roll on 2nd tri!

Denise - you going over to 2nd tri friends soon? Who else??

Caroline x

PS Lavender - I've been checking out mothercare's website, but DH doesn't want to get too excited yet, so have become a closet travel system spotter!!!!

Protein helps diminish the hunger

Post by tsippora »

Hi ladies,

I'm so jealous of you all moving over to second trimester! That means you can share the news with everyone....and feel pretty confident that baby is here to stay.

Had a scan today and met with the dr. She was not concerned about the hunger pangs. She suggested protein, and I discovered that eating meat, beans, eggs, and/or protein smoothies every 1-2 hours helps fight the hunger, but it is still no fun. If I'm going to get fat I'd rather have cake and only when I feel like it! Of course, I don't really mean to complain because I am so overjoyed to have him/her safe inside. Congratulations on the successful scans, and I hope I'll join you over on the other thread in a month.

Thanks Smita -

and yes, the Oscar is the NT scan as well as blood works. Our doc said that it's almost as accurate as an amnio, which is great, because I am very certain that I don't want am amnio.

Hope you are well... any signs of dropping yet?

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all well... Smita, how's it going - any developments?
We had our 12 week scan yesterday - it was absolutely fantastic... so clear - we really are excited now. So we have started telling a few close friends although most are away at the moment as it's Chinese Lunar New Year holiday right now.

And so, a very happy Gong Xi Fa Chai and a prosperous year to you all!

stopping shots

Post by tsippora »

Hi ladies,

I know there are some posts about this elsewhere, but was curious about your personal experiences? When did you stop shots? I was told to stop at week 9, no blood test or scan scheduled to check anything prior to stopping. Does that sound reasonable to you? I've heard that sometimes women under 35 don't need prog support for as long as women over 35 (I'm 32), but is 9 weeks really long enough?

Happy new year Caroline and congrats on the great scan!

Hi there Tsippora,

My doc said it's perfectly OK to stop the meds at 8 weeks, as that's when the foetus takes over hormone production. Some docs suggest continuing a little longer, just to make sure. Most people I've talked to finish their meds at 12 weeks latest.

I'm back on the progesterone as I had some unexplained bleeding in the night, although our beany looks ok and there are no blood clots behind the placenta - thank God.

You feeling well? Hope so!

Take care now,
Caroline xx

I'm getting so fat :( Having my scan next Thursday (11 weeks) I'm so excited. Can't help but worry about the lil one when I can't see him. If only I could have a scan every day.

Hi Kagome,

sorry to hear you are feeling sick, still it's all for a good reason, and at least you know your hormones are working properly. Should get easier over the next few weeks too :D

All the best for your scan on Thurs - I think we'd all have a scan a day if we could!!

take care,

Hi Ladies

feeling a bit better today so getting some posting in :D :D

Caroline - so glad about your scan sweetie, so exciting. Lucky you living in Singapore, wonderful place. Good luck with your scan next week, I havve mine Nuchal scan and bloods then too (Tuesday) don't know how long for results though. I don't want amnio or anything, just to know what we can about the baby.

Lav- 12 week scan 2morrow :D :D :D it's wonderful, you will enjoy it, will be thinking of you dear

Denise - so glad to hear from you, sorry the sickness is still plaguing you  and BE CARFEFUL driving, we need you, please take care!!!

Hcg is supposed to peak at about 8-10 weeks then drop off to 16 weeks where it stabilises for the rest of the pregnancy. Mine was 108,000 at 9 weeks, then 87,000 and at 11 weeks 57,000 don't have any more as we stopped measuring it now, but the sickness slowewd down just this week really so 12th week.

Tsippora - I know what you mean about drug reduction, but in my case it's after donor eggs so a full protocol with oestrogen and progesterone. Normally the trick is to reduce slowly to let your placenta take over properly and not be shocked, most girls manage this smoothly and as long as you monitor carefully they can always up the dose again. I have waitied to 12 weeks to start as I am paranoid and am paying for progesterone and oestrogen blood levels to boot...but that's just scardey cat old me  check with your doctor if you are very worried.

I think I'll stay here until after the Nuchal scan too.....as caro, Lav, Denise we ar4e all about the same dates aren't we?

big hugs

I think I'll go over when you guys go. My next scan isn't until week 17. I booked my prenatal classes today though, for April - pretty exciting.

The vitamin B I'm taking seems to help a little with the sickness, but it definitely hasn't cured it.

Caroline - awesome news on your scan! When are you moving over?

Lavendar, hopefully for both of us the queasies go away soon. You too, Kagome!

Big J - how's your neck doing? I can't imagine that on top of everything else - poor dear :?

Tsippora, I'm off of the progesterone now, as of week 10, I did it slowly too, reducing before stopping all together.

Smita, you're always a ray of sunshine for me - know that you're in my prayers as you head for the finish line!

Scan was great! Can't believe the detail - spine, brain, fingers, toes, heartbeat. Wow! They said my ovaries are still pretty huge so consultant may want to see me at 16 wks, if not, not another scan until 20wks!! 'A NORMAL pregnant lady' is what she said!

Decided agianst the nuchal scan as they can't say for definite, and is sometimes undetected anyway. Also because of the slight risk of miscarriage we decided not to risk it (no matter how small). You hear of lots of babies born with problems that were undetected, so we thought 'what will be will be.' However, talking to someone today made me feel like our decision was irresponsible. Do you agree? Should we have had it done? Am I making bad parenting decisions already?

Please advise

Hi girls

Lav - the nuchal scan test is just a scan, and combined with a blood test it has NO risk of miscarriage atall. It is only about 85% accurate, but it does mean you get a very dteailed scan and you get a statistical probability of down syndrome. We have been advised to do it just to find out more about the baby on a for-warned is for-armed basis. However as you say, there could be anything worng with the baby, and I would not consider a termination so it is just an info exercise.

Amniocentisis or chorion biopsy are both invasive and acrry 1-2% risk of miscarriage, I would not do those tests for that reason.

I guess you and dh need to talk about it and maybe talk about it again to your obs/gynae person, it's a personal decision. Bugger what anyone else thinks, you are the parents and your decisions and your own and you will as a family live with them so don't let others get you down babe.

denise - neck is so much better thanks - aaaaaaaaaaaaagh waiting to 17 weeks for next scan

I havbe no apetite anymore, can't decide what to eat, gone right off meat and cheese, eating lots of fruit and getting the squits    feel icky but not really sick anymore. Started to get flushes - anyone else getting hot flushes?????????

love to all

big hugs

Big J

Thank you so much for putting me in the picture. Your words were exactly what I needed and brought a tear to my eye...love you...thanks! I think I may phone up to see if it's still possible to have one, or whether we've 'missed the boat'.

Glad your neck's doing better - motherhood'll be a breeze after the time you've had!!

I too have lost my app now, and am sorry to say I've been tempted to pick on junk. Still, DH was a love and bought lots of fruit to try and tempt me, so I ought to make an indent into that tonight whilst he's at work. Not quite the same though, is it! I'm crap at eating fruit but do love my veg so I suppose I'm not ALL bad!

1st trimester buddies

Post by jeallybean101 »

i too must say thank you to bigj! thanks for the words of comfort. i am a newby and you seemed to ease my mind a bit. well, the hubby and i had been trying for about a year, with no luck, i made us an appt. we did one round of ivf, dumb me i took the sugar pills in the birth control pack and had to stop the whole process, wait for the period and start over. so we started over taking the shots, they got 21 eggs from me and 16 fertilized, we only put two back in because i am young. then the discomfort of fluid came along, went to the docs about a week earlier than the pregnancy test was scheduled, to our surprise they wanted to do the pregnancy test anyway. results came in at 200, two days later 440, and then today 820.... so looks like we are officially pregnant!!!!!   (bigj reiterated on my first day to the site!) we are now scheduled for our first sono on feb 13th!! can't wait. i have no idea how far along i am, i keep forgetting to ask because im too excited with the other info! im thinking about 3.5 weeks. still to early to relax. i have not experienced any of the wonderful signs of pregnancy, although i can't wait to start throwing up!!! :D. hopefully i will be able to keep in touch on this site and listen to all that you girls experience. i hope to experience it with you all. tanke care of yourselves and rub those bellies all day long!!!
