Diets and Vitamins

Post by LittleP »

Hi ya, I don't know if anyone would find it useful having one place to look for questions and answers about diets and vitamins :!:

I have noticed that there are various questions about what food we should eat and what food/drink we should avoid, as well as information about which vitamins can be helpful :!:

I know all clinics give out their own advice on what we should and shouldn't do, but I thought as a starter it might help if we could pose questions in one area - what do you think :?:

Great idea Little P. It will cut down on lots of uneccessary threads, and maybe Dr Marcus can make this "Sticky" as well.

How can we get this Sticky?

Gail - I am already rattling, but I thought it would be good for us all to discuss what we've been told with each other.

I agree with this, it is all very confusing about what you vitamins you should have and shouldn't - I am scared that with all the healthy eating you could have too much (and that might be just as bad as not having enough???)

So any info anyone has got would be very helpful........... :)

I agree with you - I'm taking that many different vitamins now I'm probably overdosing :!: :?

As for my diet, I keep hearing very different things and would love some genuine assistance.

It makes me really mad thinking of what we have to do to achieve a baby and all the things we have to give up, and then you hear of these people with dreadful diets, drinking loads (possibly doing things they shouldn't) and they fall pregnant without even thinking about it

What's a girl to do?

We can't decide if something is a 'sticky' or not, it all depends on what Dr. Marcus thinks.

That said. My two cent's worth - ordinary multi-vits usually have too much Vitamin A for us so switching to a pre/pregnancy one is better. A fish oil supplement to get DHA and EPA is also often recommended - but watch the Vit.A in this. DHs should also be taking a multi-vit and have cut right down on drinking (smoking is a complete no no obviously). Once stimming, protein is important for egg development so I'm on a heavy porrage, tofu, prawn, almond, chickpea routine right now + drinking skimmed milk instead of water. I only usually drink red wine and have stopped now I'm injecting, I miss it already :( Caffeine isn't helpful right either - it leaches calcium amongst many other things.

C'est tout.

Why shouldn't we have Vitamin A? I've been on a multi-vit and wasn't told anything about Vit A :!: :?

Little P - We can have Vit A in day to day diet (not liver), but shouldn't take additional supplements. It is said that an excess of Vit A can cause birth defects. So move over to a prenatal multivit instead, which will contain only low / no Vit A.

Thanks for that - I shall stop taking my multi-vit and get a pre-natal one.

You see this thread has worked already!

Thanks

hi. it's great to have ideas and tips like this in one place - great idea. debra, it was really useful to see your "plan" on what you eat and take throughout the process.

I am on a prenatal vit (for pregnant and lactating women). was not sure about this but was advised it was perfectly fine. i also take a combined marine fish oil and oil of primrose. around time of main treatment and leading up to and after ec, i also took something called alpha-lipoic acid which is known as the "metabolic antioxidant", produces energy reactions in the body. wanted really to look after my body with all the anaesthetics and strong drugs going in.

not sure whether all of the above is the right combination. i had previously taken a supplement which Dr marilyn grenville produces but got a bit anxious about the huge amounts of viits in it...some were 300x the rda.

would be interested to hear if anyone has taken Zita west's supplements. they are naturally v expensive!

Minnow, I enquired about an apt. at the Zita West clinic but the timing was too tight with our one week in the UK. I was quoted 100 pounds for the nutritional consultation alone...I can only imagine how expensive their supplements are...

Hi everyone, I think this thread is a great idea and it seems I am not alone in my worrying about vitamins.
I recently read a book called "Natural Solutions to Infertility" by Marilyn Glenville. It's absolutely brilliant and has loads of good advice. If you follow it, it also claims to prevent miscarriage and have healthy babies
Anyway, the gist of it is that a lot of people can't get pregnant becuase they have some kind of deficiency or too much of something. The best thing to do is to get tested because if you have too much magnesium then taking a supplement with more magnesium will do you no favours! It really is a good read and gives you lots of sound advice about what foods to eat etc etc and what causes what.
Also, I have proof it's good because I usually get about 5 days of spotting before my period but once I read this book it says what that is caused by and when I followed the diet, it stopped!!
There's also lots of really good stats and real life stories which, if anything, certainly help with the PMA! Happy rattling!

Hi All,
A great thread. I was wondering about Amino Acid an important ingredient which many infertile lack. I am thinking of talking to my family doctor, if she could prescribe this medication to me as I know if I go to one of the clinics, they would not recommend any vitamins to me other than prenatal. And prenatal doesn't have all the necessary ingredients that we need.
If you just type in Amino Acid and infertilty in goggle, it will give you a whole lot of stuffs.

Hi Minnow,
I was just reading your post and you mentioned you were taking prenatal plus a metabolic Antioxident. If i am not wrong, vitamin a, b c d e are antioxidents and I did type in antioxident in google and looked for its components and thats what it said. So if you are already taking prenatal, is Antioxident as a separate vitamin necessary.
Just a thought and wanted you to look into it more deeply and if I am wrong, please let me know.
I am looking more into Amino acid which has L-Arginine, l-Alanine and the list goes on and which are a good supplement for infertility.

I found this site and click on its more info and it will give a list of its contents.
