Hi Ladies!

Post by fullofhope2 »

So, it has been quite some time since I have chimed in, probably because I have been busy and have had a pretty uneventful pregnancy so far. I am 24 weeks along and feeling great with twins.

I thought I would reply to KB regarding travel. I recently did quite a bit of travel by plane. I was permitted by my ob to travel at 20 weeks and then again at 22 weeks. Both of my trips involved full days of travel, albeit with a layover. He cautioned me to drink lots and lots of water and to take frequent breaks, as well as to walk frequently while in flight (to avoid clots). Quite frankly, I was exhausted after each day of travel and was glad that I had my maternity belt as it saved by life. I was a bit anxious to do it and probably for good reason at the stage I was in my pregnancy. In hindsight, it was no big deal but I can assure you that I am not doing any more travel now that I am at 24 weeks and getting bigger by the day.

I am so thrilled for all of you that are pregnant with multiples - what a beautiful blessing God has given us. I hope for easy and healthy pregnancies for each of you ;o)

Kas - Triplets that's great! I'm with you being a little nervous about switching to the pregnancy board as I don't feel this is real...I feel like I'm in a dream I don't ever want to wake up from!

I found out last week I am expecting twins!! Today I heard both of their heartbeats. It was amazing. I was wondering when you ladies had pregnancy sickness. I am 6 weeks and feel like it's in full swing complete with being nauseous, exhausted and having a little tummy! Although I feel awful I am loving every minute of it!!

Annie - I am with you! I am 8w today with twins and I have been sick the whole time. No vomiting, but unrelenting nausea. I am also exhausted and bloated (but that's from the PIO and patches). I have been having a hard time sleeping through the night. I think my dinners have been too heavy, even though I eat really early in the evening. Last night I had an early and light dinner and then a yogurt as I was crawling into bed. That seemed to do the trick and slept ALL night! I was so happy this morning. Congrats on your pregnancy!

Quick question for other twin moms - when did you start taking it really easy? I assume everyone is different, but at what point were you really starting to stay off your feet, etc? I am an event planner and I have a large event at the beginning of my 26th week. I am worried it may be too much for me, but I need to let my client know now so they can get another planner. Thoughts?

Thank you!

I would let the party know now that you will be 26 weeks prego and may need someone else to take it on. With twins, you will be really bigger than just 26 weeks and you never know what dr's orders may be. Imagine having to tell her a week or so before the event.

Have you announced it yet? I miscarried after telling the world. In my case, I would have been able to handle the event (for not being prego anylonger) but I wouldn't have known that. However, it would give them one less thing to worry about and the more time they would have to find someone else, its less of an issue being 6 months out, I would have two recomendations to make it easier on the bride. Also, I would wait until 8-10 weeks possibly 12 to tell her but the sooner the better. I would hate for the stress and physicalness of it to force you into early labor, sounds like you may already be stressing about it now. All my best. ~Babyhope1

I have a similar problem that I am to be a maid of honor in a wedding at 37 weeks. It is in Kansas, I live in California. So, there really is no way I could make it unless I had already had the babies. There is no way to know. I have been with her for life, including through the death of her first fiance. I don't know if I should ask her to change the date or step down...I am in a bit of a pickle myself but after miscarrying I don't really believe this time will "go through" if you know what I mean. It may not even be an issue but I don't want to wait either. Opinions on this one too ladies? Thanks

cocosmama: I started taking it real easy around 24 weeks...as in, my OB told me no exercise (including walking), and every time I felt the BH (false contractions) I put my feet up.

I took naps every day. If I didn't HAVE to go out, I did not (I work at home, but stopped work at 6 months)...

Just remember that a day in your belly is like a year to the baby...anything you can do now, you can do AFTER the twins are born...don't risk anything...
at 26 weeks, if it's a big event, you need to start planning now so that you are NOT the go to person, that you take it easy during the event (lots of sitting down). Seriously. Don't risk it.
My babies went to 37 weeks. NO NICU which was my goal...but I took really, really good care of those beanies and didn't risk a darn thing...
I of course got high BP ... sigh.
nothing is perfect...good luck

Hi..i think everyone is different. At 27 wks right now, i'm still driving to work (1 hr each way) and working at a desk job for 8 hrs a day. i feel okay for the most part esp when i sleep well at nite. I think if event planning takes a lot of walking and running around, then probably better to let someone else do it...if its sitting at a desk and if you're active until then, you may be able to do it without problems. i told my boss i was pg before i started work at around 12 weeks. i know nothing is more important than the babies, but actually being at work means i'm thinking less about problems arising, preterm labor, etc. i'm hoping to start working from home, but dont' know how to make that decision if all is going well (peri not prescribing rest, etc) ...any thoughts?

Hi all,
I am turning 50 today. The babies are ok, all of them and DH made me my favorite pancakes this morning. What else can I ask from Life?
BabyHope1, hope things are developing towards a normal pregnancy (whatever IVFers can call normal!). Get ready to learn that in reproduction science (as in Science in general) there is a great degree of variation so we should not get so impressed by numbers. Being a bit bloated is normal; things will start showing up a bit later I think. As about reduction...read a lot (including this site - use reduction as a key word for search) and be very careful. I've seen so many problems with interferences as drastic as reduction that is hard to believe - as some doctors say - that is is a simple procedure. More even because it can only be performed after you are already attached to the little shape of life developing within you. I didn't reduce and the three babies are doing fine, against many many odds. But each parent is different and you will have time for choices if they come over. For now...Enjoy your BFP! and rest.

Babyloves, thanks for the advice on walking. It does prevent clots, which may happen when we stay still for so long. I am taking small walks (1/2 a mile) and the benign contractions come in. But nothing serious, so I will keep them in my routine. My peri told me that when babies have their limbs "inwards" into the uterus and the placenta is between them and our skin we feel much less. That may explain what SilverAngel is noticing...one "moving" more than the other. We may not notice their movements. But, yes, there are individual differences already and some babies are a lot more on the go than others (we must accept that when they can't sit still for 15 seconds later on!)

Kas101, congratulation on your triplets! I am a bit ahead of you...good luck on yor journey through the terrible ups and downs of the firts trimester!

Corosmomma, Kb2131...welcome and congratulations. I find it very difficult to predict what is going to happen 10 weeks from now. I've been long enough in this thread to see hopes crashing and fears dissipating agains predictions. I would not risk a hard-earned pregnancy for any social event or even contracted job. If we can delegate well and trust our supervisees...maybe. But the first trimester is full of surprises. You may want to check abortion rates in flight attendants. The figures indicate some increased risk due to pressure changes, microvibrations, etc. I flew from Brazil right after the IVF procedure - but is was before they started their adventure trying to attach to my uterus :)

JenniferPD, THANK YOU for writing to us!!!! I am thinkinga about you, Michael, Sophia! Nice to see the brave 0,5 centimeters holding up OK. How many weeks are you now? Good luck and hang in there!

Dear SilverAngel, congrats! 26 weeks! They are viable now - just playing for time and pounds. Eat well and rest. How much are they weighting now?

Wishing everyone a Happy Weekend, Literatriz

literatriz: thanks for the thoughtful post :)

I've been wondering something lately...my IVF doc, ob, and peri all say my EDD is 4/7 based on a singleton...but hello...i'm having twins..so why dont' they just say 37 weeks (full-term for twins) - 3/16...

i've much rather have them in March...get to see them earlier

Anyway, what you have been told and are your tickers reflecting your most likely due date based on multiples???

Hello everyone, Well I will be 27 weeks tomorrow and I've been put in the hospital on bedrest. I went in for my regular check up on friday the 2nd. The dr did an ultrasound and then he checked my cervix. He said my cervix is 1.3cm so here I am in the hospital.

It is so hard to just lay here in bed all day, and just get up to go to the bathroom. Yesterday I was able to wash my hair for the first time since arriving here in the hospital. I am only allowed to sponge bath.

Dr. wants me here until the babies are at least 32 weeks !!! I know it's for the babies own good, but I feel like I am going to go crazy. You can only do so much to entertain yourself, I am already sick of tv.

Any ideas from anyone going through this already or have had friends go through bedrest?

Hi Vadermom, I've been on hospital bedrest since December 12. I can only get up to go to the bathroom and shower every few days. Honestly, I am not having such a hard time with this yet... I am 26 weeks on Monday and my Dr. won't release me until 34 weeks. Think of this way, you have ur meals brought to u so ur not inconveniencing friends and family, ur saving money, more peeps visit when in the hosdital than at home and you'll never have this alone time once the babies are born. Bring in ur laptop, read, do puzzles, watch movies on ur laptop, read magazines, write a joural chronocling this time... Does any of this help?? Jenn

HI Jenn,

Thanks for the ideas. Well my hubby brought in the laptop for me which is helping. I will have him bring me in some books and puzzles. I know I should feel better about this. Your right it's nice to be able to order your meals and have them brought to you. I just feel like I can do this at home.

Thanks for all your warm welcomes to this board :D I'm looking forward to sharing this next phase of my journey with you ladies....

I have had a lot of great multiples advice already, so it is starting to feel less 'scary' and a little more 'exciting', which is exactly how i want my pregnancy to feel - its been a tough road getting here and i intend to enjoy this!!!!!

I am going back in 2 weeks for my second ultrasound to check the fourth sac ( i think i mentioned i had a resolving 4th sac, i cant remember) has sorted itself out, and to check the progress of the remaining 3!! My RE said there will be lots to see by then (i will be 8 weeks 5 days) so should be exciting. He also said he would put a stitch in my cervix at about 12 weeks. Anyone had this done???? My cervix this week is 3.5 does that sound ok??? This is the first time i have ever got preg, so i am completely in the dark.......

Yvee, the most important thing to remember is that in a hospital they will monitor u 24/7 and at home they can't do that. Should anything change at all they will detect and treat immediately. You're in the right place-just thank God u have insurance and make peace with it, it's only a BLIP of time in ur life! ;) Jenn

V-mom,
I bet the hosp sucks to be on bedrest but I was put on it at home this weekend and when my husband stepped out I was tempted to do laundry, take out the trash, it is the worst place to just sit and try to do nothing. The hosp is best, I know it sucks...what about suduko (sp?) or card games (solitare) read a book, book on CD...

Hey ladies, I was put on bed rest this weekend, yes at 6 weeks I was bleeding. Looks like I have a long way to go. It gushed for an hour and I was freaking out but it stopped and I had an ultrasound the next day and they saw two heartbeats. Hope we all made it through that. Also, due to the fert drugs I now know why I feel 3 months prego, each ovary is the size of a softball! I had a 24 inch waist so that is the reason, mega cysts that are growing due to my progesterone levels. So, one could call it bloat.
